As a young foal Embla had always been into something. She was always either getting caught with something or someone doing Gods knows what! The grown horses were always repeating themselves “Embla don’t do this, Embla don’t do that.” She’d always promise to follow the rules and blah blah blah. But there was never not a moment she didn’t have her hooves crossed.
Being a troubled maker like her; she was always telling of her adventures and over exaggerating what happened. She did it so often and so much that most of the other horses knew not to believe her. They did though enjoy when she would tell her stories. The over exaggeration would give such a hook to the story. Sometimes it’d seem as if she told your story and not her own.
Such telling story can get you into some serious trouble you know ... if only Embla had listened to her mother when she was still around ...
It was during one of her travels with a group i between kingdoms something terrible happened. Now the group was informed on basic survival skills before heading out into the woods. Such as running into enemies, or maybe rogue horses. Or even any type of predators such as bears, mountain lions, or wolves. Knowing when to fight and when to turn and run. How to let the rest of the group know or how to loose any type of unwanted followers.
The group had stopped for the night to rest. A quite spot in a small clearing under a clear night sky, stars shining so brightly you could almost swear it was still daylight. The group was weary and tired from the day of travels. Setting up camp embla was drafted to go collect firewood and any other recourses she could find. She wasn’t all to thrilled about it but figured she could think of a story while doing so.
Being late as it was, the eyesight of one doesn’t travel far. Struggling to see past her own face she stumbled apon a pile of perfect sticks! “Oh gods be! How perfect is this, surely I couldn’t get any better then this.” She exclaimed. While gathering the sticks she had taken a few steps forwards and a few steps to the side. An awful ‘squish’ happened under one of her hooves “oh gods, what was that?!” She shrieked in fear. Leaning down to take a look, before her eyesight even had a chance to see. Her nose had already discovered what the thing had been! “Blueberries!! what a find i say, apparently it does get better!”
While she was busy with gathering the supplies, a brown bear had been creeping up behind her. Unbeknown to Embla she had stumbled apon the housing of the great brown bear. Hence why there was an abundance of sticks, leaves, blueberries and such. Continuing on as if no such danger existed, the bear got up right behind her. He gave one deep low growl that stopped the mare straight in her tracks.
Not daring to turn around she dropped everything within her satchel and mouth and took off in the opposite direction of the bear. Not knowing it was actually a bear she believed it to be the stalker of the night. An awful creature mother’s told foals so they would go to bed and not play through the night. The mares eyes wide and white with fear, galloped as fast as she could. Feeling as if the grip of the creature softly caressing her swishing mane. Just meer whiskers touch away.
“Help! Help! Help!” She screeched to the night sky. Hoping just hopefully she would be able to catch someone’s attention. Luckily she had actually took off towards camp when she was frightened. She burst through the trees into the clearing, sides heaving with effort to breath. “Night .... stalker...” she managed to huff out of her lungs. The other horses who had stayed back at camp to set up stared at the mare.
It was a split second before one burst out with laughter at the mare. “Oh what a perfect subject to tell a story of tonight Embla! You’ve really outdone yourself tonight” he gleefully continued on. The other horses laughed and giggled in agreement with the stallion. “No! You have to believe me, it’s right on my heels. It almost ate me!!” She pleaded with the group. Another mare spoke up, “you tell such captivating and wonderful story’s Embla. I’m glad we brought you on this journey. Otherwise what a bore it would have been.” She giggled.” No ... please you have to believe me on this” as the group shrugged her worries off they went to their sleeping quarters for the night. “Oh come on Embla. Come sleep and sleep off your ‘ terrifying‘ story from tonight” another mare cooed to her.
How could they not believe her?! What madness was this?? Once she finally caught her breath she gave a short grunt. Following in line to her sleeping quarters she settled down for the night. But not to settled as she needed to stay alert if the creature was to return to camp after her. They’d see then, it wasn’t just one of her tall tales ...
