"Friends ...? Well I've never had a friend before, but I know I want to be friends with you. Well, that is if you are fine with it..."

Marta had this undying interest for this kalon. She had gorgeous hair, with these mango colored eyes. Marta knew from the day she saw her that she had to get to know her. Marta had never had any friends before, so this was going to be a challenge.

The kalon spent most of her time alone by the shore, while Marta lived deeper in the island. She knew she loved plants judging by the amount of plants encasing the house, so she began by creating a flower arrangement. A colorful bouquet, hand crafted for Hibiscus. She made her way over to the house, careful to approach it head on as to not scare her. She knocked on the door, and waited. She was extremely nervous, trying her best not to loose composure. This was going to be a good first impression.

The door opened slowly, and the kalons gaze lightened up. "Oh, why hello! Who are you?"

"Oh, I'm Marta! Nice to meet you. I saw you tending to your flowers the other day, and wanted to see what you were up to!"

She nodded slowly. "I see. I'm Hibiscus! I didn't think there was anyone living here already. Come on in! I'm brewing some tea."

Marta walked in, careful not to knock over the monstera plant by the door. The inside of the house was lovely. So simple, yet so complex. Plants everywhere. They tied the décor together, giving the house a sense of new life.

"Wow, what a lovely home..." Marta said in awe.

"Ah, thank you! I've never actually had visitors, so I hope you don't find this place a mess.."

"How could I? It's so lively in here, yet so serene. You interior design skills really impress me!"

Hibiscus chuckled somewhat nervously. "I've never gotten a compliment such as that before. Thank you."

Marta shone a bright smile. "So... What else do you get up to here?"

"Oh! I really love painting. I find it quite relaxing, and I often write some poetry to go along with it. Let me find some to show you!" Just like that, Hibiscus ran off to a room. She came back quickly, holding a canvas and a piece of paper.

"Here, this is what I was working on this morning. I don't usually get to share my art, so I want a true and honest opinion, so matter how harsh." she said confidently.

Marta looked at the painting. It was gorgeous. The colors were captivating. It was so stunning, unlike anything Marta had ever seen. It looked like it was depicting a beach, with a single palm by the shore. It read as follows.



Oh lonely tree.

How lonely you must be.

A castaway, with no destination.

Swaying with the wind, letting it shape you.

No one gets to behold it's beauty, for it's sealed away,

separated by a barrier of water.

Marta was blown away. "Wow, this is amazing!"

"Haha, thank you! I'm glad you like it, I added a bit of.. personal touch to the poem."

"But anyways, the kettle is done! What kind of tea do you like?"

"Tea? What's that?"

"It's only the nectar of the gods, darling. There are many kinds of tea. My favorite is Chai tea. I have Earl Grey, Green Tea, Citrus Tea, any of those stand out?"

"Hmm, I think I'll have what you are having. I trust your judgement!"

Hibiscus chuckled. She walked to a cabinet and grabbed a couple of tea bags. Marta noticed the amount of herbs and spices in the cabinet. Interesting. Hibiscus grabbed a couple of mugs from the counter and poured the hot, steaming water into each mug. She dropped the tea bags into the mugs, and walked back over to Marta.

"Come, let's sit on the back porch. The sun is going to set soon, so we get to see the sunset!"

"Ooh, that sounds lovely! I'll follow you."

Hibiscus made her way over to the back door. She swung it open, revealing a porch swing and a ripe mango tree. Past that was the beach, lovely in all it's glory. The sky was turning to hues of pink and purple, just like the painting Hibiscus made.

"Holy cow, the view is gorgeous! I've never seen the beach like this. I should get out of the jungle more often."

"Yea, I love the view too. It's so relaxing, and since my house is up here, I don't really have to worry about tides."

"Oh, that's good. Also," Marta began, her heartbeat picking up. Make a friend, Marta. Come on, she has to be just as lonely, living here alone.
"I got these for you."

Marta handed Hibiscus the bouquet. She studied it, and looked up. "Why, thank you so much! I love the arrangement. And you even left the roots so they could be replanted. How thoughtful! Thank you, truly."

"Of course, no problem! I thought you would enjoy them."

They both sat there, unsure of what to do next. Then, Marta broke the silence.

"I suppose I should get going. I'm going to miss you.." she paused. "Can... can we be friends?"

"Friends ...? Well I've never had a friend before, but I know I want to be friends with you. Well, that is if you are fine with it..."

"Ok, great! Maybe we can.. meet up tomorrow? On the beach? I make a mean fruit salad!"

Hibiscus let out a sigh of relief.

"Sounds great, Marta. I'll be there, and I'll make my special herbal blend of tea! Sleep well."

"Sleep well!" and like that, Marta left, her heart skipping beats. At last, she had a friend in this deserted world.
