Lex. wrote:I can see why people don't want them, but I also feel saying "People should have the freedom to do whatever they want with their pets." is a bit closed minded because if that's the case then why can't this be an option?
if anything a compromise where they add a button called "transfer to pound" along with having the delete the pet option would be optimal as to not offend those people who disagree.
Sorry for the late reply, I wanted to clarify in my post above yours that I'm not against having a transfer to pound option, I just don't want to have the delete button removed. I'm all for more options for pets, although I feel like having a transfer to pound option on each individual pet's profile would be a little pointless, even if it was immediate.
I think the system we have right now for getting rid of pets is fine. If you want to remove a large amount of pets efficiently, than you can send them to the pound in a trade (which takes way less effort than deleting or individually transferring pets to the pound if that was added) or gift someone/set up an adoption center if you don't mind keeping up with it. If you want to get rid of a pet or pets instantly and don't even want it in your account for the hours it takes for the pound/etc. to accept, due to a phobia, negative association, or any reason, you can delete it. There are petty deletes, but there will always be people like that. If someone is really bent on hurting someone else through a gift they received, they will find a way, and there are other ways.

From what I can tell no one really deletes pets under normal circumstances? But I can also see why it’s hindering to not have that choice. And like said from the others, it wouldn’t really affect rarity unless you’re mass deleting (if that’s possible).
But I agree with Lex. on creating the ‘transfer/abandon/donate’ option and leaving the delete one alone
Facts.
Again, I get the feeling there is an impression that users will pets they otherwise wanted to delete to the pound or something. In reality they're more likely to just have them sit on their account in most situations.

Don't support. At the end of the day, people should be able to do whatever they want with their own pets on their own account. Even if you don't like the idea of pets being deleted, they aren't yours, so it shouldn't really affect you. I'd say the number of people deleting pets that are rarer than a common is very very very small, not enough to have an impact on the CS economy. And even if this was happening, the whole point of December 18 is to keep things from being so rare they're utterly unattainable. If you don't want pets deleted, don't delete your own. That's it. You shouldn't be able to prevent others from deleting if they choose.
I think having the only argument be about "you could just send them to the pound or gift them to someone else" is a little silly. I know I have so many OMGSC and VC that have been sitting in a doubles group on my account for literal years. They aren't very useful for training, and these are always the pets left at the end of the pound opening anyway. I'm aware some users hoard more common pets, and someone will love every artwork. However, if I have 4 of the exact same outcome everyone else has and it's going to be hard to trade away, I don't see the harm in deleting a couple.

Support
I was having a bad day a few months ago and in the midst of my breakdown, I was very close to deleting my skelebun and orange cerberus. If the only choice had been to send them to the pound, that would have made all the difference.

let me gently remind you that store pets aren't rereleased.
Deleting those, they're gone forever. And like Holli pointed out, there's been petty deletion acts against them like the skelebun, the rarest pet on the site.

I'm aware of this, and while it's a shame that someone would delete such a rare pet just to be petty, I think you have to admit that such an instance like this is extremely extremely rare and does not reflect how a typical user uses the delete button. And as frustrating as it is, if someone went through the difficulty of even finding a skeleton to trade for, let alone being able to trade for it, and then decided to delete it they are well within their rights to do so. Yeah it sucks, but even without deletion being a factor, store pets will reach a point where they are virtually unattainable eventually anyway. There are so many store pets sitting on abandoned accounts already. I get the point being made about deletion being bad for the economy of the game in the case of rare pets, but if the person owns the pet, it is their choice to do with it what they please, even if it is petty.

I support this, the amount of people doing that is very rare, and again majority of the pets end up on abandoned accounts, unable to be traded for. I think the difference is small if they were to remove it, and I think majority would delete common or uncommon vs rare and up, so ultimately the impact of the button is small.

The delete pets option has allowed to "mass movements" of players hoarding omgsocommon pets, deleting them and increasing rarity for all the ones still in circulation. I think it allows for some fun with things as such, and can increase something so common into something more valuable. In the end, if you don't want to delete the pets you have then don't, but allow other players to do so if they want.
