he could see her smile adorning the scarlet blossoms that draped from tawny branches. could imagine that fierce glint in her eyes in the celestial beams that shone ever-so brightly through those ivory pillows. plumy clouds that cradled springtime showers. it was beautiful.
just like her.
she was the tempest of the heavens. a fallen angel captured in a maiden’s petite frame. a princess with the ferocity of a warrior. she was poison to his heart, the snake dancing in his mind. but, he would never forget her… and her lunatic love.
but, she was too far gone, now.
now, beneath the budding florets of vermillion, he could feel the stone-cold affection of loneliness seeping into the cracks of his heart made of glass.
if he hadn’t left her in the embrace of crying angels, they would be kissed by droopy maples and each other, saying vows in between.
but, that hopeless wish would never come true.
he would be alone, forever.
set on fire by glowing lanterns, and the ache of his heart.
but, he still wished she were here.. and missed the fierce glow of her soul.
it was something that the servants would never have. they would never be like her. never fill the empty space in his broken heart. they were far too sweet, too docile for the davina he knew.
he had been so stupid. so stupid to let her go.
“you can leave.”
voice metallic with harshness as crystal bristles caressed the lilac curls that embellished the curve of his back. soft, gold eyes widened as his toes fluttered across the fallen fronds of scarlet, a dance that had shrugged off servant’s gentle fingers.
“your majesty.. but i..”
faltering, the servant’s voice was like a songbird’s symphony.. except.. adorned with tears as mirrors of golden shoresides glistened in the light of a new aurora. it reminded him. reminded him that… another day without his lunatic lover had already passed.
it was all too much. that broken-hearted rage swelling in his chest. the loneliness engraved in his thoughts… if anything would break him.. this was it.
“you are dismissed.”
it was unfamiliar. the piercing bitterness that bejeweled the sharp edge of his words, the dainty maiden wavered, but didn’t dare to move.. as if she couldn’t believe the sting that had been laced within the usual sweet harmony of his voice. was his request too much for her? “is that understood? or do you need something to dismiss you, forever?”
“i apologize, your majesty..”
seeming delicate beside the pastel sepias of curtsying maples, a shiver trembled through the servant girl, cursing her with a spell that seemed to shake her willowy limbs to it’s ivory bone. the song of her fragile voice came out rushed, decorated with the horror that he had always wanted to hear. his father would’ve approved.. but.. it didn’t feel right. “i..i didn’t know what got into me.. i-”
“go.”
stay. he was so alone, and it was killing him. that silver agony blossoming in his blood. the memories of what he once had, fluttering back into his aching soul. he could never forget her.. could never forget his lunatic lover.. vina.. who had once danced across the soft greens of gentle rolling valleys, laughing at her own jokes and whenever he tried to sing a lullaby to rock her to sleep. did he still cross her mind? did she still remember all the perfect moments they had together? would she welcome him back into her embrace if he ever decided to show up?
he couldn’t do this. couldn’t deal with the pain blooming inside. not anymore, at least.
a thousand, different seas were gently cradled in his ocean eyes, a lullaby to his heart. soothing, with the serenity of the seaside captivated in it’s symphony. if only, he could let those salty tears fall and rust on his face.
but, he couldn’t. not now. perhaps, not ever.
then.. he heard it.
“ah, there you are, eli.. you haven’t been around in the palace for a bit… is something wrong?”
lovely and sweet, the sugared cadence of a familiar voice adorned the silence with it’s charm. eyes glistening with the periwinkles of morning glories, underneath the mellow glow of draping lanterns, she was radiant. a sun goddess, with eyes of the sea.
a divinity, who happened to be his sister. aria.
“no..no.. it’s nothing. i have just been busy.. you know.. the usual court assemblies?”
keeping the lyrics of his song soft and balanced, lavender lashes fluttered, seeming to dance in the breath of angels. mocking as the sweetheart curves of her features seemed to tilt, curling a little into something close to a hushed tease before deepening in an octave. “i have something to attend to, aria, i-
“hm.. what else have you been busy with? sending servants away? snapping at them for doing their jobs?”
the harmonies of her song were gently nuanced as light wrinkles puckered the crown of her head, like those blooming rose buds that would fleck the chartreuse fronds of shrubs at springtime. the floral perfumes that adorned her presence seemed almost suffocating, providing nothing close to that sweet fragrance he would cling to on sleepless nights. the lyrics of her songbird voice were far from those lullabies that she would sing to him, it was different.. so, so much different.
“aria..”
voice lowering in something close to a warning, those bluebell eyes had become cerulean flames, igniting.. softly burning.. it was dangerous. dancing out of reach as ivory claws plummeted into the sepia valleys, the breath swirling past her lips was far from those gentle breezes they had once been.. now.. now they were a tempest roar. a force threatening to tear the world apart.
“go on, entertain me with your serpent lies. but, you’ll never fool me, brother.. because this.. this isn’t you.”
