I think this is probably the most important point. It doesn’t feel the same to non-Koreans, so the reaction is different.
I’m sorry if what I said before offended you, but this ties to the above point: this would never be a thing where I live, because it’s just assumed that the mistakes you made in school as a child are things you and others have moved on from.
I have said and done things, mostly in elementary school, that definitely hurt others. I made up for it later on, at least to those who were still around me. But my reputation at school wouldn’t matter to an employer, or society in general. That’s not really how we roll here.
I also have very minimal experience with being treated badly by schoolmates, so I can’t understand how victims may feel.
I just think it’s very important to remember how cultural differences play into
everything. How international fans see these issues is different from how South Koreans see it, and the cultural background of the fans in question plays in as well.
