xxxwatching the sun slowly creep back over the horizon after a long night always seemed to mesmerize shrikestar. it was the perfect way to end his middle-of-the-night patrol. a soothing way to start the day that he knew was going to be slightly chaotic just due to the number of personalities he had in his clan, not to mention his own bratty little apprentice. starclan, was that little molly going to make him pull out all of his fur. shrikestar was determined though, he would help her become the best warrior she could be. he isn't about the turn his back on the fickle little molly.
xxxkeen eyes gazed upon the horizon before him, taking one last moment of quiet before standing, before standing and shaking the stillness off of him. shrikestar knew that back at camps his fellow members would be slowly pulling themselves from slumber and that mouringrain would most likely be setting up a patrol of his own. he hoped he could catch the other tom before he headed out, having some rather...stressful things to speak with his deputy about. shrikestar himself didn't know what to fully do with the information at hand, at the two-leg farm he had found this side of the mountains. it feels like it's only a mouse-lengths away and that truly scared the tom. but shrikestar couldn't exactly let that show and cause such discourse in the clan. a weak leader meant the downfall of a clan and shrikestar wasn't about to be the reason this clan fell apart. so ultimately the tom didn't want to worry those in his clan, wanted to keep what he found as secret as he could for now. for now, the thing, the place he found wasn't all that threatening though held the possibility of becoming a severe problem if they weren't careful. it was times like these that he was glad to have such a tom that he could turn to and actually get a helpful answer from without the worry of him just speaking words all to appease him just because he was their leader.
xxxputting a kick to his step, the leader followed the trail he used every night since becoming leader, gaze ever vigilant as he moved back to the camp, happy to see that when he arrived, a few who seemed to always wake earlier than the other cats were already beginning to mill around and preparing for the new day. he greeted each one as he passed as to not alarm them as he silently searched for the deputy. not spotting the deputy in the general area, shrikestar decided to dismiss the idea of speaking with the tom right this moment, figuring he could catch him later in the day to speak on the two-leg farm. instead, the tom busied himself with some up-keep on the camp and thinking of pulling together a hunting party to help the apprentices better hone their skills.

it's morning.
moss rustled across stone, shifted by an unconscious paw, light illuminating it in patches as the first rays of morning sun filtered within the deputy's den. the glorious sunlight beckoned with a warm hand to the siamese, creeping onto his creamy pelt, dancing behind his eyelids. the siamese was not exactly the most early riser. his body simply refused to allow him to get up till past dawn. involuntarily, the tom frowned, displeased by the feeling of something so bright encroaching on his peace of slumber. his dark brown tail wrapping tighter around his being in an attempt to block out the light. a breeze graced his pelt caressingly, carrying with it the warmth of sunhigh. it was almost as if the wind was laughing, like a gentle mother, calling him to his post as the juniper deputy. still, the siamese refused to arise from his warm nest. there was much to be done. patrols to be organized, prey to be hunted, and most pressingly a clan to look after alongside their leader. oh bother. how can it be morning so fast. mourningrain grumbled silently to himself, his irritation finding expression as his tail tip twitched from side to side. he rarely ever slept that well or warmly. much as he would like to deny it, there was perhaps very little sleep to be found at the moment. the deputy was a late-night worker, always with his paws full. he retired to his nest around the same time as the warriors yet always found himself getting up the earliest. in a way, it was fitting.
so it was with reluctance that mourningrain opened his sapphire hues, focusing on the slumbering forms of his fellow warriors. their snoring nearly knocked him back down into the dark abyss. his back arched in a luxurious stretch, a yawn cracking his jaws wide open. that done, he did feel a bit more awake, yet his eyelids refused to feel any less heavy as he proceeded to groom himself. part of getting ready for the day was looking presentable. as with everything he did, this was methodical. done in an orderly fashion. first his side, then his belly, then his face, and finally his paws. each stroke was slow and even. while he bathed, he did a careful sweep of the warriors, observing the rise and fall of their flanks, and even breaths. he suspected that most of them would be waking up soon anyways, so he left them to rest and rise on their own as he padded out out of his nest. optics narrowed almost immediately as they adjusted to the brighter environment. the sky didn't beam in its full glory today, parts of it were obscured by plump clouds; a breeze whispered past his whiskers. it would be wise to take advantage of the late sun; if the warriors were lucky, they would be able to escape the worst of the heat right now. unless, of course, it started pouring instead. shrikestar would be up soon, if he wasn't up already. let the leader sleep, the deputy could take care of patrols. the spotted tom may not be the most socially involved within the clan, the siamese reflected, sapphire orbs absentmindedly wandering toward the leader's lodgings as he mused, but he pulled more than his weight every day.
so sleeping be damned, the siamese gave himself a shake and got to his feet. enough dawdling. the fresh-kill pile wouldn't stock itself. the first warrior he approached, or felt comfortable approaching so early, was sparrowcreek. gently, the siamese tom nudged her pale-furred shoulder with his left forepaw, "sparrowcreek?" mourningrain kept his voice low to avoid waking up the other warriors, but loud enough so the molly could hear him. "good morning. i need you up and ready for dawn patrol. i'll grab two more warriors and meet you outside." briskly he made his way around the slumbering cats; palefoot's bright dappled form caught his eye almost immediately. he gave her a firm nudge, repeating the instructions he'd previously given to sparrowcreek. she was still a bit sleepy, but mourningrain knew she understood what he said. mostly. the final cat was velvetfeather, who's inky black pelt nearly made him invisible within the darkness of the den. in fact, if it wasn't for the morning light, mourningrain might've thought the black tom had disappeared into thin air. 'nice try buddy.' he snickered silently to himself, a mischevious smirk perching on his maw as he approached the ebony tom. "you know, with your black pelt, i nearly picked someone else for dawn patrol. nearly." the siamese joked with a purr, nudging the black tom awake with a few gentle pushes, "i'll give you some time to get ready before we head out. palefoot and sparrowcreek will be coming with."
satisfied that the patrol would soon be underway, mourningrain padded outside the den once more, taking in the land that housed juniperclan. it was a peaceful sight, free from the hustle and bustle of a normal day. allowing himself to take on a more relaxed posture as he patiently waited upon the other warriors. the flash of a dappled pelt above near the border of the camp made him straighten, his ears curling forward in an alert prick. ah, finally. he didn't know where the shrikestar had been all morning. gone? asleep? whatever, the siamese was used to seeing him up earliest. with a brisk pace, mourningrain made his way to the bengal leader, tail high in greeting. "hello shrikestar, good morning." the siamese mewed respectfully, "so, i've already gotten a few warriors up for dawn patrol, and i was wondering if there were any other patrols that needed to be covered; i'll deal with them when we get back." absently, mourningrain found his attention drawn to the trail behind the leader, one of the ones that led out of camp. 'is there a threat beyond our camp? something i should be aware of?'

sleeping in was a true luxury. the transition from the warm darkness of his sleep into the realm of the waking was always a bit of a slow and subtle one when it came to shiverthorn. and today was no different. the white tom stretched languidly on his back, only half awake. ahh. early mornings weren't his thing, plain and simple. so, he would take his time. he could tell that a few warriors were waking up to embrace the daylight hours, quite unlike him. he realized that he had missed that sound; the quiet rustling of sleepy paws across stone, low voices that reminded him of the call of doves. his ear twitched, acknowledging the activity of his clanmates around him. drowsily, he swept a paw across his face, deep copper hues half-lidded with sleepy satisfaction. he could've stayed in his nest and caught a few more minutes of sleep, but enough was enough. it would not do for him to remain here all day. patrols would be called any moment now, and he didn't want to be late. the white tom rolled onto his feet, dislodging any few bits of moss that clung to his snowy frame. a pink tongue lapped across fur as the white tom gave himself a quick but thorough grooming. it looked as though he would be one of the first to be heading out of the den, which was fine. a smile perched itself onto his muzzle as the warm sun graced his being with its pure glow, enveloping him in a divine light.
unfortunately, the white tom forgot to look down, and his paw snagged mischievously on none other than tallfern's tail, which had draped itself right in the middle of the walkway. shiverthorn squeaked as he was sent sprawling, landing with a whump right on top of the gangly black and white tom. immediately, the white tom's fur started burning flusteredly as he untangled himself. "my god, i'm so sorry tallfern." well, if that didn't wake the tom up, shiverthorn wasn't sure what would. 'clumsy, clumsy!' shiverthorn reprimanded himself silently.

it was a running habit that tawnypaw's activeness rose and set with the sun. rising early and sleeping early were her habits. after all, there was little reason to be sleeping in late, other than to waste the day away. so, when morning came to pineclan, tawnypaw was already up and about. the ginger molly gathered herself quickly to her feet, her back arching in a morning stretch. from what she could tell so far, most of the juniperclan cats were already getting up and getting along with their day. where was her mentor? the tawny apprentice kept her eyes peeled for the seal-point molly as she carefully stepped over her sleeping denmates. a gentle breeze tugged at her fur, promising that rain would be on the horizon soon. it seemed that the deputy was speaking to the leader right now, presumably after setting up patrol. coming to think of it, she could really use a chance to stretch her legs before training. and what better place than patrol? unfortunately, it seemed as if dawn patrol was already being arranged, however, so she would probably have to wait before training started.

Roseheart / Warrior / Tags: None, open / Mentions: Mourningrain
Roseheart hadn't slept well at all. She had been constantly tossing and turning, dreaming about something unsettling. She couldn't quite recall what it was though that disturbed her so much. She wasn't sure how long she had truly been asleep for when she heard
Mourningrain wake the other warriors for morning patrol. She opened one eye and saw the deputy pad out of the den. Roseheart figured she should follow suit and made her way out of her nest, stretching as the sun hit the back of her fur. She saw both her leader and deputy discussing the events of the day, so she turned towards the creek. Roseheart enjoyed spending her time by the creek, dipping her paws into the cool water. She often watched small fish swim by, dodging her paws. She was never in the mood to catch any though. She enjoyed the peace and quiet away from the busyness of clan life; she also delighted in any moment she had away from her brother. He knew exactly how to push her buttons, and she wasn't the kind of cat to retaliate. Roseheart made her way to the creek and lied down, dipping her tail into the water. It was quite cold given that the sun had just begun to rise in the sky. Roseheart hoped that maybe the sound of the small creek would help lull her to sleep so that she could finally get some rest.
