Cass nodded her lips slightly pursed although she didn't want Aiden to leave she understood his reasons for doing so and she sure wasn't going to stop him. "Well I can't think of a better person to be going, They'll definitely need your brains" She grinned before ruffling his hair affectionately. Cass was going to miss Aiden but hey he was capable and she knew that Dhalia and Mira were going too so hey there were at least a couple of people who know what they're doing. "Oh well I better prepare myself then" Cass replied with amusement "Although there have been several times where you've almost sent me to the infirmary without even trying" Cass added thinking about all the mishaps with trying to teach Aiden skateboarding. "But I greatly look forward to your triumphant return" Cass grinned her voice filled with humor before putting her hands into her pockets and realizing that she still was holding the rock and feather "Oh um here" Cass said holding out her hand and showing Aiden the rock and feather "It's a uh parting gift from me and Edgar" Cass shrugged a bit uncomfortable with having to openly show her affection "It can be your good luck charm or something"

Jack stopped and look in the direction that Hank was looking and even though it took him a second to realize who it was was his face immediately broke out into a grin at the sight of the aphrodite head counselor. "Don't worry about it"Jack smiled "I'm glad I got a chance to say goodbye to you". Jack knew that the quest would be dangerous but he knew that Mira was really strong and could take care of herself albeit she could do that a bit too much but hey there were plenty of other capable people going so hopefully she could find someone to help support her. Jack then realized that Mira's lipstick was smudged and was about to mention it to her but Hank was already reaching towards her face. Jack tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows confused as to why Hank was rubbing at Mira's face and he was about to say something but Mira already had it handled. "Well I certainly wish you the best of luck and I know that you'll be able to take names and kick butt" Jack beamed at Mira hoping to reassure her that everything would be okay because even though things weren't at the moment they would be in time at least that's what Jack tried to think.

"Whatever you say Phel" Aydan said softly as she reassured him it was fine to unload everything to her. He couldn't lie, the pat was a bit awkward after he had just given her a kiss. Albeit a forehead kiss but it was more affection he'd given anyone, besides his grandma of course. Guilt pinched his heart once again "I'll have to call and apologize to my grandma at some point. Uh, wanna join me? It's ok if you don't.... she may yell at me less if someone was with me." he rambled not exactly happy to face his disappointed grandma.

He watched as her shield went back to bracelet form. This isn't exactly how he imagined their spar to go. He chuckled at her attempt to lighten the heavy mood. "I hope this whole thing didn't hurt you like last time emotions were crazy." he said reaching for her shoulder but changed his mind halfway. He turned his head to look at his shurikens that were now far away and covered in a thin layer of snow. He attempted to call the shurikens to him holding his hand out. They started to wiggle a bit before making there way to him.

As they made there way to him they shrank in size. He looked at the small pins that were once his shurikens resting in his hand. Adriane must have added that without telling him. Would've been nice to know while he was walking over , he pinned them to his hoodie before giving himself a shrug. He looked around realizing Celeste was no longer there. "Where's Celeste? You think she's ok?" He asked Ophelia shoving his hands in his sweatpant pockets.

Emerson chuckled "No problem" she looked to the movie a split second then he said he'd be getting more snacks. She gave him a short salute before getting back up herself. I'll walk you out, I think I'm going to take a walk and get some fresh air." and maybe say goodbye to the questers. She neglected to mention the questers and was putting off thinking about them. They were in good hands with Mira... Mira, hopefully she'd be ok. She should probably go offer the girl some words of encouragement or at least say goodbye.

She slowly made her way to the door and mindlessly opened it for Reese. Her mind was in multiple places at once. Part of it was with Caleb, part with Mira and the quest, and the last was wondering if Reese was ok. He seemed like he was but, he also seemed to feel guilty and she wished she could convince him he didn't need to be."Hey Reese... If you need anything just let me know ok?" she offered with a smile. He's a good guy, he didn't need any troubles and if she could help him in some way she'd be satisfied.

"Uh hey Delilah, I wanted to say my goodbyes." he said said rubbing the back of his neck nervously. What if she would get mad at him, then they had no chance of building a relationship. "I promise I won't say anything." he said holding his pinky out smiling sheepishly. Jellybean huffed in annoyance and nudged Ash, Ashe brushed his hand over the impatient stallions side. "This is Jellybean by the way." he added indifferently.

Shaye sat in a crouch, fingers reaching up to touch her temples and cheeks. It was an attempt at controlling their mind with little success. Their figure was hunched, shoulders pushed forward and centre of gravity set just below their knees.

the air seemed to grow biting despite the temperature not changing. Shaye scrunched her eyes shut, but kept listening to Aoife's words despite the pain that interlaced between them. Shaye glanced up through their thick lashes as the weight of the facts came to rest on their shoulders. They stayed in silence as Aoife spoke.

of course it was the snow's fault... but at the same time, why didn't anyone attempt to clean the snow from the roof? Despite the tragic nature Shaye still felt a little spark of anger rise in their chest and heat up their ears. It wasn't the time to be angry though, especially since Shaye still didn't know who the dead were yet. Her pale blue eyes still threatened to well up with tears but she blinked them away as she finally stood back up. Their smile was gone, the dance that lit up their eyes diminished.

"Ah've been gawn a week at best... I was visiting ma mom, it's been a bit hectic with spirits ya know?" Their voice was a bit duller as they tried to explain. "When I got back I didn't even bother to return to the actual camp, Ah've been wandering in the woods trying to get used ta the cold."

They glanced over to Roxanne, trying to gauge her reaction to it as well, Aoife seemed still clearly troubled to talk about the subject. Shaye was happy to be an only child for once, considering so many campers lost siblings that day. The wind pulled at Shaye's clothes and they wrapped their arms around themselves as they looked back to the daughter of Hebe.

There was the option to respond to Aoife again, but something about it seemed to have lost it's shine... There was no point to try and lift spirits when death still obviously hung in the air. Shaye shook out their hair, making it look more unkempt as they attempted to read the room still. A joke wouldn't help matters, and Shaye honestly didn't want to joke about anything at this point.

There goes the fireworks in the bonfire tonight. Shaye might've loved chaos, but that was beyond her morals. Aoife seemed to regret making such a statement out of thin air, but Shaye did appreciate the fact that now when they returned to camp, they weren't walking in blind... They didn't even know if they wanted to go back to see the big house at this point, maybe they could wait until dark to go back to their cabin.

They wrung their hands, unable to make much more sense at this point.

Is he always so...chatty? Ophelia wondered absently. Her mind was already running away with the question. That sounds rough... but, maybe, perhaps...if I stand there uncomfortably for a bit (is it called 'moral support'?) I can get another hug. Hmmmmm... After her experience with Mira, Ophelia had found that hugs could be quite comforting. However, asking for them was...no way to maintain a reputation. "I'll be there." She said, smiling shyly, flicking a strand of dark hair behind her ear.

He laughed and she let herself relax her shoulders, pausing to roll them out. "I'm fine, last time was just...extreme," She said lightly, trying to keep the grimace off her face. 'Extreme' was an understatement. Seventeen. Seventeen people, all with friends and half-siblings mourning them... More than extreme. His hand reached out, and she almost sighed when it fell back to his side. It makes sense, still...

She watched him drag the throwing stars back, unsteadily at first, then all at once. It was mesmerizing, but it also reminded her how not she was. Thanks mom. She thought bitterly, running a hand along the outline of her cold pendant.

She was brought out of her reverie by a question. "I'm sure she's alright." She said nonchalantly, but she scanned the arena for Celeste anyway. Huh. I must've got distracted. It's her first day princess! What were you thinking! Don't let it happen again. She reached for Aydan's hand, not really thinking about it before making the connection to drag him along. "We should go get her, complete the tour and all," She said, nodding to herself and starting toward the entrance.

Reese smirked at Emmie's mini-salute. She's rather cute - did you just call ground zero for your dark side 'cute'? The grin faded. But Emmie was already at the door, holding open and showing off the glistening white blanket just outside. Oh, yeah, that. After a morning of movies, he had forgotten about the troubling weather. Not anymore. He steeled himself for the journey, making a mental note to stop at his cabin for yet another warm garment. Something that would keep out the pesky snow, which had once more started up.

Sensing something in his manner, Emmie offered to help him out. His heart clenched in his chest. Why does she have to be so damn sweet? Why was the person I also depersoned not someone I would not feel as bad about, Lucy or some problematic Ares kid?

"Of course!" He said brightly, patting her shoulder. Was that too bright? He wondered, but shoved the thought away, ducking his head and lifting his collar to keep out the storm. It was not enough. He would need some fashion of hood for this. He glared out at the whiteness, looking so peaceful, but feeling so deadly. Remind you of anyone. He bit the inside of his cheek and carried on.

The rational part of his brain was long gone. Still, theories spun out like a mad scientist with funding. If I feel like that when I think someone is cute...and Caleb makes me feel that way...does that mean... He stopped, blinking as his surroundings did not register. His eyes widened, and he didn't notice the snow accumulating in his hair while he tried to piece out what he had just thought. The implications...

Aggy was more than happy to follow Skylar, squeezing her legs into Spicy to indicate that she wanted to keep up. The mare responded, stepping up into a rhythmic sort of prance with a snort. Scary...but fun! Despite increasing their speed, they were still several paces behind Skylar and her swirly mount. Time to change that. She squeezed again, clicking her tounge and leaning forward as she did. Spicy was more than happy to oblige, passibg over the snow in a movement that was more of a glide than hooves touching the ground. Aggy took in the cold air and icy flakes along with her mount, sucking in gulps of air, even as it threatened to tear at her lungs. There was a very real chance of falling, of anointing the ground with her body. But the flutter it sent down her spine only served to raise a laugh in her throat.

Almost...yes! They overtook Skylar at long last, and she laughed for real, breaking the peaceful aura of the raining snowflakes. "Anything to say for yourselves, slowpokes!" She called over her shoulder. She nearly came tumbling off, but made up for her poorly balanced weight with a tightness in her calves. A tightness that drove Spicy onward, and Aggy's heart hammering. If this is how it ends... I can't say that I'd mind. She mused, squinting as she leaned into Spicy's warmth. The leather bit into her frozen hands, and her legs ached in ways that would burn later, but she already knew that wouldn't be what she remembered of this, of this flying.

Hank stepped back at Mira's obvious distress.
'It's - lipstick!' She squeaked.
Oh. Hank rocked back on his heels, sheepishly studying the very much not blood on his coat sleeve. "Sorry," He said, ducking his head and wincing like a kicked puppy. I should've known that. Guess I got a little freaked out at the sight of "blood".

He was more than grateful for Jack, who was now interjecting kindnesses for Mira regarding the quest, and pointedly not mentioning the uncomfortable feeling the son of Apollo had created. Mira recited some sort of cool poetry, probably French, and Hank made a note to look it up later. Wait a minute...why does that sound familiar? He reached a hand up to scratch the back of his neck. 'Seens common es pa si common... Did she just say I have no common sense...in French? That's a new one. Hank was well used to being insulted for his 'chronic inability to think before acting', but at least he'd deserved it this time.

He shook his head out and gave her a gentle smile, hoping Mira could read just how awful he felt about the situation. *Hmmm, goodbyes... Never seeing again... The embarassment would be worth it, if it made her laugh.* "You'll do great!" He said with all the optimism he could muster. Bending over, he lifted up a stone and focused on it, pulling light reflected off the snow easily, until the smooth pebble didn't just glow, it hurt to look at for the brightness. He frowned. That hadn't been the intention. At least it was warm. He pulled a tissue from his pocket, wrapping the thing until it no longer hurt his eyes. Satisfied, he held it out to Mira.

"For your med bag, it should stay hot no matter how cold you are. Just, try not to look at it, might cause some permanent eye damage if you do that." He smiled, haply enough with his creation, if dissappointed at it's more sinister attributes.

||Mirabelle Everhart|17|She/Her|Aphrodite|Head Counselor|Location: Cabins Area|Tags: Hank, Jack|

Mirabelle managed to salvage what was left of her composure as Jack started talking to her, offering him a warm expression. "Thanks, Jack." His assurances definitely brightened her spirits, though the ever-present beast of self-doubt still gnawed at her conscience.
Hank's dejected apology came, and her chest cavity panged with guilt. "No no - it's okay; your heart was in the right place." She mustered a sympathetic smile, choosing to disregard the fact that her lipsick was probably a complete disaster at this point. She didn't have to be an expert in perception to tell how uncomfortable Hank felt about the whole situation. "Honestly, it's sweet to know that you care that much." Her smile broadened into something more genuine and kind, reflected in her grey-blue eyes.
She couldn't help but chuckle when he declared that she would 'do great', but her expression soon shifted. Curiosity, confusion, and compassion flickered across her face in quick succession while she watched the son of Apollo busy himself with something. She observed with clear interest as he pulled the light around them and affixed it to the smooth pebble in his hands. When it became too bright to look at, she made the intelligent decision of shielding her eyes. Her temples gave a dull throb nonetheless, and her jaw tensed ever so slightly.
Mirabelle's head jerked back up at the sound of Hank's voice. She was pleasantly surprised to find that not only had the bright stone been wrapped in a tissue to dim its glow, but that it was being offered to her.
"Oh Hank - you didn't have to -" Get it together, Mira. He's offering you a gift. And a rather useful one at that. Just accept it, it's okay. She took a short breath to gather herself before she made eye contact with Hank. "What I mean to say is - thank you." The words carried a bit of weight to them; showing just how much she meant it. If her previous experiences with cold weather had taught her anything, she would certainly be grateful for a constant heat source. Gently, she clasped the rock in her own dainty fingers. "I really appreciate it. I wish I had something to offer in return, but..." she trailed off, her mouth curling upwards into a sad little smile. I could at least leave something to him if I don't come back. The morbid thought snuck into her head before she could stop it, dampening her mood like a fine mist. Externally, nothing appeared to have changed, but a sinking sadness tugged at her heartstrings. "If I had more time before leaving, I would've crocheted you both a hat or a scarf, at least." I wish I had more time. I really do. But even her goodbyes were on a schedule. I'll have to make it up to them when I come back. A pause in thinking, pregnant with the dark implications of the next notion that came to mind. If I come back.

||Juliet Pratten|16|She/Her|Hermes|Location: Cabin 3|Tags: Hu, Caspia|

Ah, alone at last. Except for Hu and her new sister, but that was totally fine. As soon as the magicians were gone, Hu was pumping her for information. Her smile broadened at the affectionate nudge, playful mirth sparkling in her hazel eyes. Rather than reply instantly, Juliet shifted her posture so she wasn't leaning up against the door. Just in case anyone walks by and happens to overhear. The door swung shut with a loud click as she followed Hu towards her bunk, soon plopping down beside her as if she lived there too. Juliet had a tendency to make herself at home wherever she was, and it certainly showed its colours when she reached over to grab a handful of skittles and popcorn.
"So," she started, swinging her legs like a little kid. "I was thinking..." She popped a few morsels of food into her mouth to build the suspense. "What if we find some big rocks, right? Bigger than the gem, if we can. Or just a bunch of smaller rocks that are bigger than the gem put together. Then, we find a Hecate kid to enchant them to look like gems - using the mist, or however their magic works. Act like they're really valuable and be all 'oh, these are way better than that old gem you have there, why don't we take it off your claws and you can look after these for now' or something." She grinned, evidently pleased with what she had come up with. It had a few kinks, to be sure, but any plan was bound to have a few. "If we can't pull that off, we could always do the ol' switcheroo. Find an object of a similar size and shape, wait 'til the beast falls asleep - ooh, or ask Lilah or Sandman to put it to sleep - and switch 'em out carefully. Bada bing bada boom, we've got ourselves a jewel."

||Chuck Oakes|He/Him|Satyr|Location: Dining Pavilion|Tags: Caleb, Sassy Dryad|

"Like, don't mind if I do." Chuck gladly led Caleb towards the source of the delicious smell. He nearly tripped over his own hooves in his haste; thinking more with his stomach than his head. Soon enough, the buffet area graced his field of vision; no doubt where the mouth-watering scents were wafting from. A spread of amazing-looking food was being laid out, he noticed. Everything looked just about as good as it smelled.
"Hands off the food until lunch starts!" A high-pitched voice called out. Chuck stopped his hand in its tracks; frozen mid-grab of a cluster of grapes. He slowly turned to see a shorter dryad huffing up at him, arms crossed over her chest. Her green skin was spattered with darker freckles, her leafy hair arranged in a fancy Hellenic updo. The way she looked at him, those disapproving golden eyes... Man, it was absolutely adorable.
"I - uh - euuyyyuh..?" Any semblance of coherent thought fled Chuck's mind. He tried to speak again, but all that came out of his mouth was a collection of sounds that were definitely not words. If he were in a cartoon, little hearts would be floating out of his head right about now.
"Are you just going to stand there gaping like a fish?" The dryad seemed vaguely annoyed, but Chuck was still as dumbstruck as ever. Evidently growing confused, she turned to Caleb with a look that said 'what's his deal?'

||Zahra Al-Amin|217/Looks 32|She/They|Magician; Eye of Sekhmet|Location: Outside Cabin 3 --> Behind Cabins|Tags: Jay, Sa'd/Set|

Zahra was a bit miffed at being called a 'girl' by the chaos god - she was two hundred and seventeen years old, for crying out loud. That, and they weren't fully a woman to begin with. Sure, she had been using 'she/her' pronouns more in her head that day, but that tended to fluctuate depending on how they felt. Nonetheless, the Eye of Sekhmet led the Host of Set and their accompanying god behind a row of buildings, which Chiron had called 'cabins' earlier. Zahra thought that was rather funny - the only building that looked cabin-like in any regard to her was the one the aforementioned gryphon was seated outside. They checked back to make sure that Jay was following; she and Anubis should hear this information as well.
When they were far enough out of earshot of any demigods, Zahra stopped walking and turned to face the three. "Jay and Anubis, I believe, have already made my acquaintance, but allow me to introduce myself. I am Zahra Abubakar Nashwa Al-Amin, Magician of the Ninth Nome and current Eye of Sekhmet. I wish there were time for more formalities, but I must 'get to the point', as they say." Her tone was clear and sharp, but not unkind. Their mixed Arabic-London accent had thickened in her haste, and they hoped the three could comprehend what she was saying. "Set, Anubis - we need your help. The Duat is in chaos - almost literally, I'm afraid. You two recall the Ogdoad, though I am uncertain if your Hosts have recollection. Hosts, do either of you know of the Ogdoad? I can explain briefly if I must."
-
At Jay's admission, Zahra's face grew almost disappointed. "I see. They must not be teaching the Ogdoad cosmology in your Nome. Shame on them." She hadn't necessarily meant it in a mean nor chastising way, but it certainly came out that way. "The Ogdoad are eight gods; the first gods. They were born of the Sea of Chaos and are thought to be extensions of Isfet itself." She paused to let that sink in. "The eight are as follows. Nun and Naunet; the gods of chaos and water, Heh and Hauhet; gods of boundlessness, Kuk and Kauket; gods of darkness, and Amun and Amaunet; gods of invisibility, of air, and void. They are frog and snake gods respectively. " She watched the two teenagers' faces as she continued. "Something has greatly angered them, and caused them to awaken from their slumber. They are wreaking havoc in the Duat; tearing it completely asunder. The Sea of Chaos - it is expanding. You can see why I have been sent. We need your help. The gods need your help."

|Venti|Khione|Location: Toronto|Tags: The Shadow|

The two venti manifested themselves, evidently terrified by whatever this strange being was. It felt ancient, they knew - older than even the gods. They exchanged a nervous glance before one turned back to the sentient mass of shadows.
"Er - our apologies, we didn't mean to interrupt your - erm - coffee."
The other ventus looked at its companion with incredulity. "This was supposed to be an observe and report mission! Engaging with the target was never part of the plan." It's voice was a low hiss, barely audible but angry nonetheless.
"Well, what did you want me to do? Deny a primordial being something it asked for? Dying was never part of the plan either!"
"What are we supposed to do now? Khi-"
"Shhh! They - it - whatever - is listening."
Their bickering continued on for some time before the second ventus seemed to come to a decision.
"Well. Ahem." It cleared its nonexistent throat, turning back to the shadowy being with trepidation. "Since we're here... um... could you perhaps tell us who you are? Our boss kinda sent us to gather information; uh... see if you're a threat or not."

"Ugh, shut up." Aiden let out an exaggerated groan, though he didn't resist when Cass ruffled his hair. He really would miss her, and Edgar too. The thought of not making it back continued to lurk in the back of his mind, poisoning his thoughts with their bitterness. The goodbyes were bittersweet; he didn't need his brain to make it worse. "Yeah, you better be ready!" he shook his fist. "I'm a man, you hear me? Big scary skateboarder dude. Don't you ever forget it." Aiden shared a laugh with the Hermes head counselor, and before it completely subsided, she was thrusting a rock and a feather into his hands. "It's a uh, parting gift from me and Edgar." His brow wrinkled. "You think it'll bring me good luck?" he turned the rock over in his hand, studying it alongside the feather. Both were fairly ordinary, but given that they were parting gifts from Cass, they were special. "Well, we're both living proof that belief has power, so I'm sure these bad boys will keep me safe." He tucked them into his pocket and pulled her into a hug. "I'm really gonna miss you, Cass... If I don't get a chance to see her before I leave, can you tell Juliet I said goodbye? I'd hate for her to think I forgot about her."

The answer appeared to leave Leo satisfied, which allowed Lucy to keep the rest of her cards close to her chest. He was smarter than the average Ares brute, but he still had a lot in common with his siblings. Slowly, the cold crept through her layers and her skin began to prickle. Whether the goosebumps were from the weather or from the vicinity to such an unwieldy camper, she wasn't sure. "I can't promise you anything," she hummed. "Whether or not I'll need to send you to teach someone a lesson depends on how they behave. Personally, I don't like to make enemies, but everyone has their own opinions." Leo made a good point, keeping him around after what he'd done would certainly turn some heads. "I can work around that." The daughter of Apollo assured him. "I wasn't there, and you've given me your side of the story. I can vouch for you. If you were just violent, I doubt I'd be standing here without getting punched myself." she added. "Campers don't soon forget things like this, trust me. Just ask any one of the long-time campers about Mirabelle the Red." Lucy felt more confident returning to the camp center with Leo around, but she had a feeling she'd need more than just her word to help buff his reputation. Not to mention she'd need to head back to cabin 7, and bring him along there would be no good.

"Oh, yes. Absolutely, it's starting to get colder I think." she nodded in response to his suggestion. "But... before we head back, can you keep a secret?" In truth, Lucy had been dwelling on this for some time. The case of current events had its pros and cons; Mirabelle would be out of the picture for quite a while, giving her the upper hand she'd been lacking for years. She'd been trying to acquire Orin as an ally, but she had her doubts she'd be successful in turning the two against each other. Now that that was off the table, the child of Zeus might prove to be a bigger problem in the Aphrodite head counselor's stead. "I think... Orin might be up to something bad..." She lowered her voice. "I don't have any proof to take to Chiron yet, but it's got to do with the quest."

[]Caleb Thomas|18|he/him|Athena|Dining Pavilion|Tags:Chuck

Caleb followed as Chuck eagerly led the way to the buffet table, following his nose like a racing dog after a rabbit. As they neared the table and the source of the delicious scent came into view, he could feel his stomach starting to growl. The anticipation was abruptly cut off at the sound of a shrill voice telling them off, and he turned towards the dryad with eyebrows raised. Chuck seemed to be stuck, frozen in his position of impending gluttony. Caleb suppressed a laugh and shot the dryad his best charming smile. “Right, sorry. It all just smelled so good we had to come see what delicacies you lovely dryad folk have prepared for us today. Promise we won't touch a thing.”

He turned his gaze to Chuck at the incoherent noise that may have been an attempt at some form of speech, smile faltering briefly in an expression of confusion. He raised an eyebrow, but no further explanation came, he was clearly stuck, enamoured by the angry dryad who didn’t seem too impressed. Oh boy… He glanced back at the dryad with a quick, apologetic smile. “He’s uh...practicing for a play. He plays a guy who...doesn’t speak...and uh...turns into a statue sometimes…” He paused, seeming to think on the idea for a moment before nodding with satisfaction at his own quick wit. The benefits of being a son of Athena striking again. “Very cultured, my man Chuck here. Isn’t that right?” He slapped a hand on Chuck’s shoulder, grip a little tighter than necessary as he offered the dryad another polite smile before turning and beginning to drag the satyr away. “Catch you later, darling,” he said back to the dryad with a wink.

“What was that about, mate?” he asked once they were out of earshot of the dryad, still barely managing to suppress his amusement. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a satyr freeze in the presence of a buffet table. Do you usually fall for girls who glare at you like that? Doesn’t sound healthy, but my husband punched someone in the face earlier so I suppose I shouldn’t judge.”

if only i could keep you in my pocket
to give me some diagnosis of why i'm so hollow
please give me instructions, i promise i'll follow
i tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
but doesn't that mean that the tour's gonna sell, though?
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted
but after an hour, it sounds like complaining
wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever?
you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better?
the universe works in mysterious ways
but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me
doctor, should i be good, should i be good this year?

i outside - cabin one.

the nectar hadn't done all of the work it could have done. there was still a little ache in the pit of orin's stomach as he walked, like his internal organs had been ever-so-slightly shifted to the left by a few inches, but it had done enough. he could walk, and walking was exactly what he was doing. trudging through old snow that was being sifted afresh onto the camp, looking less like a staggering mess with each minute that passed.
he passed the apollo cabin. there were some faces in there, all pensive, all looking as though they had been kicked in their sunny heads and dragged through the dirt, and briefly - very briefly - he caught glimpse of felix, who stared straight through him. orin wasn't even sure if he was registering what he was seeing. in his own little world, he supposed. back in the havoc that was camp. he couldn't blame him for zoning out a little. he walked on.
cabin one was being exited by reese, who looked equally as disjointed from reality as the son of apollo had. was there something in the water? was everyone being pulled out of their minds to think about something that orin hadn't had the privilege of being privy to? the dream that had been drifting away came into the forefront of his mind, hitting him like a truck. he hadn't known the voice, hadn't had any reason to, but it had made him uncomfortable. it had been the intrinsic knowledge that it shouldn't have existed, not there, not ever, and yet, there anyway.
he brushed it off, walking past reese with a little nod and turning his attentions to emmie. "alright?" he smiled a little in greeting. "am i allowed in, or am i gonna have to answer your riddles three?"

without waiting for much in way of a response, he slipped past. when the warmth of the cabin hit, it gave him the chance to shirk the coat and the blood-caked hoodie, putting the latter atop the ruined tintin shirt. "i'm gonna have no clothes yet by the end of the summer," he muttered, sitting down as he replaced the layer with a fresh jumper. "what've you been up to, then? anything i should be worried about? reese looked like he'd been hypnotised when i walked past him. hope that's not anything to do with you."

no promises, no obligations laid out in some strange little contract, no true idea of what he was supposed to be doing - leo shouldn't have felt so comfortable in the situation. it was right, though. it hadn't been right to ignore everything that he knew he was, to attempt to push it away for favour of being more palatable for the campers that would have never seen him as anything other than an explosive mess of conflicting impulses. this felt correct. "you point, i'll shoot, right?" he raised his eyebrows. she continued on about campers retaining their memories of the 'big' events - something about mirabelle the red - and it didn't seem to bode well. "so you can spin it, right?" it wasn't that he particularly needed the story spun, but it would have made things easier. he didn't quite fancy being confronted about the events of the day by campers who were just as volatile as he was underneath their training and 'responsibility'.

it certainly was getting colder - the worst-case scenario, in leo's head - but getting back to a place of warmth was put on the backburner when lucy said something about a secret. "who would i tell?" he asked, a decent response. "who would i tell who'd believe me?" an addendum that made it all the more solid. it wasn't like he was much of a talker - there wasn't much risk to telling him things. it appeared that this had been enough to convince her of such, and when the next words came, his eyes narrowed. "when you say 'something bad', do you mean he's planning on... like, flooding the bathrooms, or plotting to kill everyone in the camp?" the quest - was orin responsible for the snow? that didn't sound right. leo folded his arms, brow deeply furrowed as he tried to consider the variables. "what? what do you think he's been doing?" it could be good for them, he realised, if he was doing something - it made the punch seem more reasonable, and all the ones after that. orin hadn't fought back. did he think he deserved it? was he filled with shame and too proud, too loud to admit it? cogs span, sparks flying in leo's head. he wasn't vindictive, but he knew an advantage when he saw one.

ivi outside.

the cigarette smoked, celeste went for another. she wasn't much of a chainsmoker, but drastic times called for rather drastic measures. the headache had cleared since leaving the two of them - whether that was a result of being able to finally get the nicotine hit she desired or something that ran deeper was not something that celeste was willing to spend time pondering over. the snow had started to tumble on the camp, flakes making little shapes in the air as they danced and settled. it would have been beautiful if it was any other time of year. it should have been beautiful, and it wasn't. perhaps that was the mess of the world that she had found herself in.

like he had been summoned by the thought of her old life, a familiar face popped into her vision. "hello!" moss the satyr, clutching something that he was holding close to his chest. "are you settlin' in alright? i thought i'd get you something, like, as a gift. i looked for a while. it was real difficult, but i found it."
"oh?" celeste had no chance to give him greeting before he was thrusting the object into her hands. a rectangle. not too heavy, but not too light, either. and when she rose it to take a look, it became clear what the satyr's intention had been. it was a book. a little book. not just any book, but the song of the siren by orson harper. her book.
"i hope you don't mind. i read it a little. i got scared when the war started, so i stopped. but it was cool!"
she pursed her lips into a smile. "thank you, moss," she said, unsure quite what one was supposed to do in instances such as these. she had been handed her life on pages and told it was a gift. it was rather uncomfortable. she finished the cigarette, dropping it into the snow, and gave him a little nod. "i was just waiting for -" the entrance of the arena darkened as shadows cast on it, the presence of ophelia and aydan becoming clear.
"oh - i'll just - have a good day!" at least he knew his cue. moss stumbled away, muttering something or another to himself.

celeste flipped the book over in her hands, walking over to the entrance to greet the two of them. "hello," she called. "i needed a smoke, and you two seemed... busy."

[☘︎]Aoife Murphy|17|she/her|Hebe|The Lake|Tags:Roxanne, Shaye

So it was possible for the child of Melinoe to fall silent, that came as a bit of a surprise. Not exactly a welcome one given the circumstances that had brought it upon them. She wasn’t sure where to go after that. She was good at making jokes in uncomfortable situations, shying away from darker topics with inappropriate comments and poorly timed humour, but even that seemed difficult now. Camp was supposed to be safe. She’d always been told that it was safe, but now they’d all had a very rude awakening as to just how true that was.

Aoife nodded when Shaye finally spoke, a look of sympathy and sadness replacing her usual unbothered expression. It had been a bad enough shock being present when the collapse happened, she couldn’t imagine coming back to find the Big House, and several campmates just gone. It would take some time to process. For all of them. But it’s not like they had to sit and dwell on that now. Negative feelings weren’t exactly Aoife’s style.

“Hey…” Her gaze wasn’t exactly on either of the people she was with, staring out across the frozen lake as an idea began to form in her mind, the cogs whirring in her head practically visible on her expression as the pieces started to fall into place. “You’re kind of known for being a harbinger of chaos aren’t you, Shaye?” She didn’t know the child of Melinoe that well, but she’d heard things. She turned her gaze to Roxanne. “And you’re…” She hesitated, a slight frown crossing her face as she pondered. She didn’t know the daughter of Hades very well either, wasn’t sure how she felt about causing trouble. “You’re you.” She settled on finally. “What would the two of you say to causing a little disturbance? Nothing huge, just something to lift people’s spirits you know? Bit of a distraction from everything going on.” She wasn’t sure how either of them would take to the idea. Maybe now wasn’t the time for pranks and disturbances, but it never usually was.

"He was─" a pause. "This was last night. He could already be there now, and... if it's possible, try to reason with him." Moxie felt a shudder in her voice. "I shot on reflex, and something tells me he's just wrapped up in this like the rest of us. I didn't even know he was a god until then." Laika seemed to register Moxie's request, but whether the Hunter would take it to heart was another question entirely. With a wave of the hand, the Iris message dissipated, and the daughter of Mars morphed the Imperial Gold dagger back into the shape of a ring, returning it to her finger. Her surroundings slowly came back into focus, and immediately Julius drew her attention. He was alert, hackles raised to something behind her.

"How sweet. And here I thought you hated me."

Moxie's hand flew to her holster, withdrawing the weapon in record time. A blade appeared and interjected itself into the trigger guard, twisting it free from her grasp before the tip of the blade dug into her hand. Heat spread through her body, the searing pain of the wound buried under the boiling of her bloody aura. She hadn't planned for a fight today, but she was always prepared for one. "And you almost had me feeling sympathetic." Moxie spat, wrapping her punctured hand around the sword blade in an attempt to offset his balance. "Impetum!" Julius pounced, fangs bared, but just before he began his offense, he tucked tail. Within moments, her fearless companion was reduced to cowering like a pup. Moxie's other hand was nearly severed at the wrist by a massive black wing and her bloodlust that gave her and Julius their power moments before drowning under an overwhelming sense of dread. "Keep it up and you'll be losing both of your hands." The humor she usually saw glinting in Nick's eyes was nonexistent, leaving them hollow and cold. She spat in his face.

"You think you're hot stuff, huh? Real eye candy, unstoppable god of─" She caught a right hook to the jaw, his ring imprinting on her cheekbone. "Sorry, I shouldn't even call you that, you don't deserve to be called a deity. You're pathetic, you coffin-dodging─" This time the fist was to her gut, Moxie groaning as she felt her ribs crack. She forced a wheezing laugh. "I'm terrified, I promise. What are you going to do now? Punch me again? Maybe start crying some insults? Come on, you're being so quiet, it's like you're mute all over again─" Her face hit the floor. She tasted blood in her mouth, but everything was numb at this point. Moxie went to stand, but suddenly a white-hot sensation flooded her spine. Her body seized, and from the corner of her blurring vision, she saw the god. He said nothing as he twisted the blade into the base of her neck and through the floor, leaving her pinned. Her vision slowly faded to black, her ears filled only with the sound of her heartbeat.

The peace only lasted a few moments. The pain never subsided, the blood never stopped, and yet she felt alive as ever. Now she felt fear. "You don't get it." The tone had no waver. No sarcasm. No life. "I hate this. The feeling of my power flowing through to my fingertips. The smell of fear in the air. The sound of blood rushing in my ears. I hate it. I always have." Moxie struggled to lift her head from the floor as she heard his footsteps approaching. A gurgled breath escaped her lips, eyes widening. No, no, Julius! "But right now, the only thing I hate more than it, is you." He knelt down beside her, meeting Moxie's gaze. She wanted to look away, but his power commanded otherwise. "I cared about you, Moxie. I poured my heart out for you, and all I wanted was someone to love." he laughed dryly, shaking his head. "Oh, how wrong I was. I thought you were the most beautiful girl in the world. Smart, witty... I thought we could have had something, but all you wanted was a boy toy to keep you warm in the winter. Anyone who ever loved you was wrong."

The blade in her spine twisted, sending daggers of pain through her nerves. "You are a coward." she breathed, tears burning her eyes. "To your last whimper." "You're right." Death answered, pulling the sword from her. "I was a coward. This was never a destiny I wanted to accept, and Morgantown was my escape. I never wanted to stop being human, I was afraid of what becoming a god would do to me. I should thank you, really, because I'm not scared anymore. There's no point in being afraid of the inevitable."

Moisture saturated the gloomy air, filling the cavern with otherworldly fog. In the distance, a lone figure stood at the river's edge. Nicholas produced a golden drachma from his breast pocket, tossing it to the underworld god as he boarded the boat. Charon caught the coin and turned it in his fingers. "Paying for a ride? You know you've got domain down here now, junior." Nicholas cracked a small smile. "Call it a force of habit. I'm headed for Tartarus." Charon seemed unfazed by the answer, pushing the boat free from shore and downstream. Lost wishes and broken dreams bobbed on the river's surface as they drifted past, following the current with only the sound of water for company.

"You're quiet." The ferryman commented, breaking the silence. "I remember when you were hardly up to my knee, Thanatos' little chatterbox." Nicholas didn't turn, his eyes trained at something in the distance. "A lot has changed since then. You still pestering Hades for a pay raise?" "Bah, I've given up hope on that. He calls it an "unhealthy obsession" and keeps threatening to have an intervention over it. It's professional, and professional is my middle name." he added. Nicholas chuckled softly, not quite having the heart to appreciate his uncle's banter. "There's such an irony in knowing I was the one who started that. Never knew the clothes I'd happen to die in would have such a profound effect on the face of the underworld." The ferryman's boat split islands of mortal junk, and as they progressed down the River Styx, his appearance took a more ancient form, with flowing black robes and skeletal hands gripping the vessel's push pole. "It's rather kind of you to keep up the community service every once in a while, Hades might not appreciate it, but it's one less soul I have to listen to complain about their demise." "It's not for Hades. This one is mine." Charon paused his stroke, studying the former mortal with scrutiny. "It's not like you to be so possessive with a soul." "I'm not the same kid who died twenty years ago, Charon." His answer left Charon unsatisfied, but there was no further prying.

"Play me a song." The command caught Nicholas off guard. "Pardon?" He caught glimpse of a bony smile under Charon's hood. "You heard me, junior. Play me something, for old time's sake." He was serious. "I thought you hated that." Charon released a dry chuckle. "I'm not the same ferryman I was twenty years ago," he replied, as if mocking the earlier statement. "You're no Apollo, but the god of music doesn't play for these weary bones. I'll take what I can get. Death found a smile, raising his hands in defeat. "I'm flattered," he searched around the shadows and retrieved a guitar, strumming it a few times while he tuned it. "Any requests?" "Something long. We have a trip ahead of us." Nicholas nodded, finding the chords for Stairway to Heaven. "I actually learned to play on this song, so here's to a trip down memory lane."
