A Friendly Connection
Connecting bridges and filling gaps. It may start with humans, but it is really about pets. The group is always ready to accept new participants and is friendly towards newbies.

Chamomile
I was unsure where I was going. The other dogs from the farm weren't with me and to be honest, I was a little nervous. I walked by my owner's side waiting to wee what would happen and I was shocked when I was brought to a large, empty room. I barked a, "Hello," but it just echoed of the empty walls and the thin blue carpet. My eyes first went to the only thing in the room, other than a few humans of course, a basket. I wanted to see what was in it, but I was too scared so I waited. One human approached the basket and I realized that my leash had been removed, even if it hadn't been, I still would have ran towards the red ball that the human chucked out of the basket, and I immediately knew where I could find toys should I want them.

I chased the ball for a while, trying to grip it in my teeth, but the rubber was just to bouncy, it seemed impossible. I wondered if any other dogs or cats would show up.

I shook out my brindle-patched, that's what my humans called it, mostly white coat, and looked around as we walked. We soon reached a place where they brought me into a room where I only saw one other animal, playing. I twitched my nose and tail, ears still, my nose twitching because of all the humans here that I could smell; well, maybe there were only a couple. I shook myself again, then headed for the basket and found toys in there, tail wagging as I grabbed one.

Chamomile
I was excited as soon as I saw another dog, she was playing with a toy that I couldn't identify from the basket. My normal wide smile grew over my face as I approached the other dog.

"Hello!" I started, "My name is Chamomile, what's your name?" Only once I had started speaking did I realize my height over the dog, nearly a foot.

I shook out my brindle-patched mostly white coat, and tossed the duck toy around a bit before stopping doing that. My nose and ears twitched a bit. I felt eyes on me...I looked over and jumped a bit, the other dog right by me. I didn't know how I hadn't heard her approaching...I assumed she was a girl, anyway, especially when she told me her name. "Oh, um...my name is Jamie," I told the much bigger dog. I was told I was what was known as a Staffordshire terrier, and wondered what she might be.

Chamomile
"Oh, hello, Jamie," I said, surprised by the name. It sounded like a human name, and my human's names sounded like pet names, but I tried to continue the conversation. "Would you like to play a game, together?" I usually preferred playing with other dogs, or even cats for that matter, pets are much more fun than humans. "We could play tag, hide-and-go-seek, or anything you think of I said," trying my best to be friendly.

I shook out my brindle-patched mostly white coat, and nodded as I said "It's very nice to meet you, Chamomile. I wonder if any other animals will be brought here," I said, then shook my head back and forth before I stopped myself. I didn't know if others would notice, but I was missing about three quarters of my one front leg, so it was awkward when humans noticed. They tended to stare at it...which I didn't exactly really like them to do, but most animals seemed not to notice, or just didn't care. I then nodded to the other female, and flicked my tail back and forth rapidly. "We could try hide and seek," I said, looking around the room and trying to see if there were actually any places to hide though.

Chamomile
I watched Jamie's eyes bolt around the room and realized that there really were no places to hide. "Hmmmmm," I said as I thought, then decided to try something new to me, a conversation. It wasn't as nice as playing but Jamie seemed not interested in tag. So I began, "You seem fidgety," she had been shaking out her coat frequently, "is that related to your leg?" I didn't want to nag so I tried to remain with just one question.

I scratched at the brindle patched mostly white coat, then sighed and huffed a bit as I shook my head a couple times. Tag was a nice game and all, but with only three legs I wasn't quite so fast as others...so it could be kind of hard on me. I twitched my ears and nose once more, tail flicking, then yawned a bit before trying to focus on the big dog again. I tilted my head when she questioned me, saying "No, most animals don't seem to care anyway, it's just humans. They notice when they get close, and they stare and get all weird...but the humans here seem fine. Anyway, um...I think I was just a bit itchy; I scratched it and it feels better now," I said, though hoped the itches wouldn't come back...
