Hi ! I thought I’d make a quick intro to myself !

At the moment I own one Ball Python named Mocha whose about 1year and 8 months old just now. I unfortunately got him from a pet shop when I was less educated so as far as I know his morph is enchi. I would have more reptiles but since I still live with my mum I’m restricted to just one lol. I plan on owning more ball pythons in the future as well as other snakes and some geckos.
I hope to be able to study veterinary eventually and open my own reptile rescue in the future.
I would consider myself to be pretty well educated in ball pythons now and help out a lot over on reptile amino.

Imgur isn’t working just now so I can’t post any photos of my beep but I’ll check later to see if it’s working and post a photo !

Hey guys! I have four leopard geckos and I was curious what you guys thought about their patterns. Which morphs are they?

I did a doodle tonight

Leopard geckos were my first pet reptiles and the first pets I had when living on my own. They were 2 females and I housed them (very foolishly on my part) together. They ended up getting sick and passing away before I could get them to a vet. I have no idea what happened to them and I swore I would not get another leopard gecko to save myself the heartbreak of it happening again, but lately I find myself drawn to their adorable little derp faces again. I think I am ready for another leopard gecko (:

I would suggest a leopard gecko to anyone who is thinking of getting a new reptile. They make great pets and dont smell or bite. (or make noise)

Here is a little FAQ about leopard geckos, if you are new to them or are thinking about getting one.

Are they easy to care for?
Yes! they are not much work.

What do they eat?
Crickets or mealworms. I would suggest mealworms because they dont make noise and they dont smell.

How often do I feed them?
I feed mine once in the morning and once at night. I give him 6 a day, but I would suggest more for an adult.

What do they need in their cage?
I would suggest a 10-20 gallon tank with a lid. You can use a wide variety of materials for bedding. I wouldnt suggest sand because they can eat it and get sick. I use a reptile mat. Its just a piece of carpet that you can rinse out when its dirty. You will need a heating pad (you can also get a red heating lamp too if you want). They need a little hut to hide in. A food and water dish too. It should be kept in an area that is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit all the time (21 Celsius)

How do you clean their cage?
Geckos tend to do their 'business' in one side of the cage. Once you can tell where they go, you can just put paper towels there and clean those up whenever. Change its water every day or so and spray its tank with warmish water. If you use reptile carpet, just rinse it out. (it dries quick)

What if my gecko is shedding?
If your gecko turns white, dont worry, its not dying!! It is about to shed. If it starts to shed its skin, just leave it alone for about a day and keep its tank moist. If after a day or so there is still some stuck to its feet or head, you can help it my placing it in a warm wet container and then help it a bit. If it is still having problems you can post here ;)

How do I hold it?
Gently stroke its back so it gets used to you. Dont go in too fast or you will scare it!! Then carefully slide you hand under it and pick it up.

If you would like to add anything just tell me :)

you should not feed any reptile a diet of one type of insect as they do not get all the nutrition they need.
Also mealworms should never be a main diet as they are severly lacking in key nutrients.

Leopard geckos should also have AT LEAST a 20 gal tank preferably more.

(could I be added to the leopard gecko and snakes role maybe lizards?)

I have an alligator lizard named Dave (not an actual alligator)
I've also done lots of research into various reptile species mostly on garter snakes but I know a bit about a lot of different species.

Ball Pythons:

Reticulated Python Morph issues:
- Super Golden child: Wobble
- Jaguar: Wobble
- Super Platinums/Super Ivories: intestinal issues, high mortality rates
- Cow: Many have gastrointestinal issues originating from one bad clutch.

Common Boas
Super Motley: Usually die around 1-2 years of age
Kahl Albino: Some are prone to congenital eye defects due to a history of severe inbreeding in the gene
Super Jungle/Arabesque: prone to early death, weak livers, and infertility
Super Aztec: seem to suffer from lack of coordination
Blizzard: many blizzards seem to suffer from a lethal gene
Scoria: Wobble syndrome

Carpet Python
Jaguar: Neurological issues similar to spider puthons
Super Jag/Ivory: Lethal
Granite: inbred individuals are often deformed

Corn Snakes
Caramel: Enlarged heart, weakness and sudden death
Striped: Enlarged heart, weakness and sudden death
Sunkissed: prone to stargazing, though this is seen in other morphs as well
Amel/Albino: known to cause issues in other species and sight problems
Scaleless: Similar issues as other scaleless species

Texas Rat Snake
Leucistics: bug-eyes

Not a conclusive list by any means, these are just the more common genes or more well known issues.

Cinnamon causes the head especially the face to get messed up. I can't remember 100% but it is a harmful morph.

i used to have a little experience in owning reptiles, as i owned a mexican milk snake for a couple of years when i was younger before rehoming him!

i’ve recently moved out and am really wanting to get back into owning snakes and am stuck between deciding which kind i want. for majority of the time, i really was wanting to get a ball python because i know they’re generally really docile and easy to care for (aside from the finicky eaters) but i recently started looking into boa constrictors some and they’ve really caught my interest, especially with some of the beautiful morphs they have.

i’m wondering if anyone here has experience with both of these types, and could give some advice on which they think would be best to get as i would definitely still consider myself more of a beginner as far as owning snakes goes.

i like the idea of being able to handle my snake more frequently than not, which had me a lot more interested in boas because from what i’ve read, they tend to be more tolerant of more frequent handling than pythons do, though i know each snake will be different and have its own preferences.
enclosure accommodations are no issue either, nor is acquiring the proper food (as i know boas tend to get pretty big and end up eating much larger prey) but i’d love a little advice from a more experienced handler!

I know this is old but maybe I can still help.

Boas will be more expensive to care for they need a larger enclosure, larger hides and more expensive food. So do keep that in mind.

Milk snakes are fairly small so I would recommend a ball python before you move up to a boa.
However don't get a ball python just so you can own a boa in the future. If you have little love for ball pythons after learning about boas it will be better to get a boa.
I would highly highly recommend joining the Snake Discovery or Tarantula addicts discord server they both have people much more knowledgeable than be on reptiles.

Hi! I'm PrideOfMtVernon2.0, but honestly just call me #2 or smth loll

ive always wanted a gecko, even an anole or a snake or ANYTHING, and my mom FINALLY let me get a leopard gecko!!!
We're going to get it this summer or something, and I want to name them after a Hamilton character!!! Problem is, I can only find $120 (CAD) leopard geckos going for that price because of some rare morph, and i dont care about looks. Anyone know a store online (that ships to canada) that is maybe a trustable breeder? Thanks!!

(also is Burrito a good name lmao) (BURRito)
