the fist to his own still blood-smeared face had been alright - he hadn't quite anticipated it, but he could understand the sentiment of the son of ares looking for something to punch, but to then go for auggie was putting an incredibly bad taste in his mouth. he should have done something, realistically, other than lie about, waiting for everything to be over. it wasn't very 'head counselor' of him. it wasn't very 'son of zeus' of him. he'd already gotten past the forgiveness of leo for his incursion against orin, but it would take a grovelling apology before he looked at him and saw anything other than the man who hit auggie. "i will, promise," he grumbled, noting her tone of doubt.

she made a valid point, but that didn't stop the digging feeling of red hot pokers through his torso. "you say that, but i bet this is exactly how edward the second felt," he muttered.
"you want me to pick you up?" felix asked, and instantly, visions of what it would feel like to be anything other than straight-backed and stiff against the forming bruises made him flinch. "i'll take that as a no, right?"
"do you ever shut up?" orin scowled. when auggie joined the effort - to mira's dismay, he added, like they had all seen something that he hadn't - he bit his tongue, seethed through his teeth. felix deserved the threats, she certainly didn't.

"tell them there's codeine in my bag, front left pocket," he said to mira. so he had come prepared. that was good. wasn't codeine for mild to moderate degrees of pain? that wouldn't do. orin was, at his core, convinced that there was not a single person on the planet who had ever been in as much pain. "are you in control of your feet?"
"- insipid, weasely, smug-faced -" orin muttered as he took a few steps. though he complained, the support of the two was proving to be helpful.
    "see, it's not that bad,"
"patronising mollusk," he'd given up on full sentences by now, picking words at random and hurling them into the air. it wasn't having the desired effect on felix, who kept walking, holding him up with a grip that was just a smidge too firm.

as they drifted from the clearing and toward the cabins, orin thought it was the best time to make his little complaint - the genuine one, not the one framed with colourful syllables and discontented screeches. "i don't want chiron involved," he murmured, falling into the rhythm of one foot in front of the other.
"should've thought about that, then," felix was being snide. he didn't like it when felix tried to be snide.
"i don't like what you're implying," he frowned, stumbling a little on a dip in the snow. "i didn't do anything. he just went for me."
"like last time? and every other time? did the big house go for you?" he knew he shouldn't have told him that. felix was annoyed, and that would have been fine if auggie wasn't there, but she was - and it made him feel like a child being reprimanded in public. "did you even do what you said you were going to do?"
"yeah," the reference was to promising that he was going to tell someone, and he twitched his head toward auggie. "what'd you think? i was lying?"
felix looked at auggie for a moment, giving her a look that almost appeared apologetic - sympathetic, even - before shaking his head and focusing on the cabins. there were words he certainly wanted to say, but held back. orin tensed his jaw, continued onward blearily.

'a domain of icy bliss devoid of petulant mortals and pesky demigods'
though they had no idea of it at the time, malcolm and hicks had a very similar thought - 'siberia is right there'.

regardless of their mental link, eris was pondering the concept. "chaos is the original order of things," came the husk, as though correcting the vessel. "it is the point from which all attempt to flee, and the point they circle back to in their efforts." she was thinking, he could feel that, the cogs turning. "my children would rise once more." less cutting, more thoughtful - she was being swayed.

nicholas was talking - malcolm wasn't quite sure what parts were important, whether he was running his mouth while he waited for a decision to click into place in his head, but it appeared that he settled on something at the end of it. driven entirely by impatience - was that impressive or foolish? it wasn't his domain. eris, meanwhile, had been very patient for a very long time, and though she was newly energised by the prospect of the promised 'happening', her cautiousness was palpable from inside of his head. she wasn't going to make a blunder, fall for the creeping shadows that called them forward, the siren's song.

but the step of the horseman was one that had solidified something - whether it was the fact that she considered him worthy of the decision, or whether she simply wanted to see what would happen, she manoeuvred malcolm's head to nod. "you woke me from the depths. it would be impudent to step away now." that was as much of an agreement as the vessel was going to get, it seemed.

[] Augusta Reynolds|17|she/her|Hades|Head counsellor|outside|tags:Orin, Felix

Auggie frowned slightly at Orin’s set look, at the determination in his promise. She didn’t think one punch was worth killing someone over, but he was missing his usual light, joking tone. It could’ve been put down to the loss of blood and the head trauma. She could’ve been interpreting his tone wrong. But she’d become pretty familiar with the other side of Orin the past couple days, the side that didn’t resort to covering everything up with a joke, and he seemed serious now.

She gritted her teeth as they started to walk, focusing on the slurry of harsh words that Orin spat into the air rather than her own aching side. As long as she kept her focus somewhere else she’d be fine. Her grip on him wasn’t as tight, as though she was still afraid she was going to hurt him more somehow, though she offered as much support as she could while they made the slow trek down to the cabins.

The attempt at putting her mind elsewhere caused it to wander, the feeling of throbbing, bloody knuckles bringing back a memory she didn’t really want to think about, one that she hadn’t thought about for a long time. A nose gushing with blood; an exasperated, berating tone; a face that wanted to help her but was clearly tired of the pattern starting to occur.

”You’ve got to stop throwing yourself into fights. There’s better ways to deal with this. You can ask for help.” The voice of her uncle, gently wiping blood from one outstretched hand as she avoided his gaze.

The image of Stella’s tear stained face still came easily to her mind, the anger that she’d felt at the kids who were picking on her again. She might’ve taken on a few more of them than she reasonably should have, only putting herself and Stella in more danger, but she’d had to do something. It was clear that she hadn’t changed much, only learned how to hit her target better, and how to hide her injuries from prying, irritatingly concerned gazes.

She tried not to think about her uncle’s disappointed look. He had no right to be haunting her now. And this time had been different, if she hadn’t gotten Leo off when she had he could’ve beaten Orin to death, there hadn’t been time for a better option.

Auggie tuned back into the conversation just as Orin made his request not to tell Chiron, something she could understand, but Felix clearly wasn’t buying. She nearly flinched at the mention of the Big House, biting down on the inside of her cheek. She hadn’t actually seen what had happened before Leo took a swing at the son of Zeus, but it hadn’t seemed like he’d done anything this time. She kept her gaze ahead as Felix told Orin off, speaking as though this were something that happened on a regular basis, and she could only assume that it had before he’d left camp.

She looked up at the gesture towards her, frowning as she realized what they were talking about. She met Felix’s gaze, giving a hardened expression in return to the apologetic look. She wasn’t a fan of being looked at with sympathy, especially when it was over something that barely even involved her.

“He didn’t do anything,” she said finally, in regards to Orin getting himself beat up, unsure why she felt the need to defend him. “There wasn’t time, he couldn’t have.” The way she said it implied that she didn’t entirely disagree with Felix, that although she was saying he hadn’t done anything to provoke Leo, she was saying he hadn’t done anything this time. She was aware that having been looking the other way, she could’ve missed something, she could be wrong, but she was fairly certain that she wasn’t.

Just one single glimpse of relief

Postby WitchHazel » Tue Feb 16, 2021 7:48 am

||Mirabelle Everhart|17|She/Her|Aphrodite|Head Counselor|Location: Outside Stables --> Cabin 7|Tags: Apollo NPCs|

Mirabelle nodded sharply in acknowledgement at Felix's address before taking off in the direction of the cabins. She made sure to stick to the paths that had been packed down by foot traffic; she'd make quicker time that way.
Before she knew it, she was barging through the door to the modest Apollo cabin. "I need an empty cot, stat. We've got two injured on the way; one with potential major injuries and another with more minor wounds." The few healers inside scrambled to attention as she barked orders at them. "There is codeine in the left front pocket of Felix's bag. Have it prepared. I don't know the full extent of Orin's injuries, but it looked like blunt force trauma; multiple contusions. Felix already administered some nectar so watch his temp if you give any more nectar or ambrosia. Check for fractures and internal bleeding. He is fully conscious at this point, but that may change. Keep an eye on him."
One of the younger Apollo kids - Billy, she recalled - stared at her dumbfounded, as if he couldn't possibly fathom that all of that had come from the Aphrodite head counselor, of all people. Mirabelle couldn't blame him - most people tended to think she was less knowledgeable or intelligent than she actually was. But then again, she usually let them. That, and she was typically someone who asked politely when requesting something. There was no time for niceties now.
"What are you waiting for? Stop gawking at me and go! Get on it!"
Billy sprang into action as if a pack of rabid wolves were on his tail.
In some ways, the detached, clinical manner she had spoken to them was just as much a coping mechanism as it was a way to communicate what had happened. Crisis-mode Mirabelle was eerily calm and steady on the outside, though she didn't discount the urgency of the situation by any means. She focused on what needed to happen, rising above the panic to provide what aid she could. She knew once her crisis-self was gone she would be left with a sense of nagging worry and unease. She could already feel it beginning to seep through the wall of calm; threatening to twist her cold, clear thoughts into a jumble of panic. Breathe in, breathe out.
A small sense of relief washed over Mirabelle as the Apollo kids prepared everything she had asked them to. If she was being honest with herself, she had no idea if Orin was going to be okay - but at least he would be receiving the best medical care the camp had to offer. That brought her a little solace if nothing else.
"Right. The more minor injuries belong to Auggie - Augusta. Bleeding from the knuckles with a potential rib or lung injury. Breathing seemed steady, but I saw her get punched in the ribs myself, with a great deal of force behind it. Check for fractures - broken ribs can be dangerous; one wrong move and a lung could get punctured. Both Orin and Auggie will in all likelihood try to refuse medical treatment. Be strict; be stubborn. There will be no more deaths on my watch."
Guilt pulled at her heartstrings as a few of the Apollo campers flinched - the mention of death no doubt harkening back to the Big House collapse. Five, she recalled. They lost five cabinmates. A sense of sorrow threatened to sweep through her, but she forced it back. No time for that now. You've done all you can here. Time to get back to the quest. She would be no use to anyone if she were hovering around the Apollo cabin, she reckoned. Better to get a move-on than risk getting in the way of the healers.
With everything taken care of, she stepped outside into the cold, crisp air. She could just see the figures of Felix and Auggie supporting the wounded Orin as they trekked closer to the cabins area. Right. I'll just wait outside for a bit; make sure they get him in. At least then she could rest easy knowing that Orin had gotten inside Cabin 7 and was being treated. Stand to the side of the door so you aren't blocking the way.

i outside - cabin seven.

orin was rather thankful for auggie's defence of him. felix seemed to think the worst of him - though his rational mind told him that he had good reason to, with his track record. but felix didn't know how he had felt in this specific instance, not compared to the rest. the last time leo had given him a throttling was deserved. the last time, he had been lying on the ground, manically giggling as the son of ares tried to separate his teeth from his gums. it hadn't been the same this time. he had been scared.

"punchable face," he said in congruence to auggie's little defence.
"says a lot that he went for him, though, doesn't it?" felix said, still seemingly displeased. the whole spiel felt like evidence of what orin had been saying earlier - that first, auggie would care, and then one day, she would hate him. obviously he knew that felix didn't hate him, not really, but it felt like hate when everything that he did put a sour countenance on felix's face. it was a side effect of caring too much. "all those people around, and he chose him. i wonder why that is."
"could you just shut up?" he muttered, wind out of his sails. "i get it."

the six-legged walk continued until they reached the summit of the cabins, where orin spotted mira outside, looking like she was brimming with energy that she wasn't sure what to do with. the door was cracked open. there was movement inside, a lot of movement, and conversation that seemed to indicate that they were preparing for what they believed to be a war.
"thank you, mira," felix said as they passed her. "really. thank you."

and then, like bees to honey or ants to a hill, children of apollo swarming around orin and presumably auggie, ferrying him into an empty bed as he struggled against their probing, meaty hands. eventually, the crowd won out, and he was down. "get off. i'm not - i'm not - i want felix. just felix. not you." as much as they seemed to detest each other outwardly, he trusted the man with his life. not so much these lot. a glass of water pressed against his mouth, something in it that made it look cloudy, white.
    "painkiller,"
okay, he wasn't going to deny himself that. he chugged it as it came, then let his head drop. orin wasn't sure where felix had gone - though writhed at the feeling of a blood pressure sleeve being wrapped around his arm, pumped up. "would you get off me? i haven't - you can't do this without my permission, can you?"
"low blood pressure. could be internal bleeding," said the offending girl.
"that's where blood's supposed to be,"
a pause, a frown. "are you on medication?" his heart felt like it had fallen into his leg. his blood pressure rose rather quickly. "oh, that's - felix, is he -"
that awful face came into view again, looking down at orin's rapidly shaking head, his panicked mouthing of the word 'no'. "i've got him. check over augusta, would you, maria? she'd do well with some codeine at the moment,"

maria disappeared. in the hubbub, felix looked over orin with a pensive expression. "and what if you had to tell the truth there, hm?"
"i don't wanna be here, felix," he said, glancing nervously at a plant in the corner. "i really don't want to be here."
"you're stressing yourself out," warning tones, becoming gentler. "i'm not going to do anything that you don't want me to do, but you need checking. just to make sure that it's only a few bruises and not - you know, a punctured lung. can you let me do that?"
"just you. just you," he muttered back. "when's this supposed to kick in?"
"codeine can be about an hour. sorry," the briefest of winces.
    "where's auggie?"
"she's here - probably about to send maria through a wall. she's alright. you're alright," for once, orin let himself believe it.

[] Augusta Reynolds|17|she/her|Hades|Head counsellor|Cabin 7|tags:Orin, Felix

Auggie frowned at Felix’s response to what she’d said, the son of Apollo clearly not eager to accept that Orin wasn’t at fault for what had happened. His tone was harsh, chastising even, but she’d heard a voice like that being used before, seen that particular expression. It was obvious that he cared, the annoyance coming from a place of concern rather than malice.

As they neared the Apollo cabin and the door was pushed open, her breath caught slightly at the frantic rush of movement inside, the sharp pain in her chest not helping with the uncomfortable feeling. Being around people was bad enough, crowds of people were much worse. Crowds of children of Apollo packed into a tiny cabin was probably her worst nightmare. They swarmed around, all prepared to be useful in the most irritating way possible. Orin was led away to an empty cot and she attempted to follow, but was intercepted, not willing to shove her way through the cluster of people with the pain in her chest and increasing difficulty breathing.

She staggered her way back towards the door, her back meeting with a wall in a way that made her grimace. There were too many people and her breath wasn’t coming steadily anymore, the shallow gasps not getting enough oxygen into her lungs and making her feel light headed. She leaned her head back against the wall, trying to steady her breathing and stop the pain in her side with sheer willpower when someone approached.

“August? Are you okay? Felix said—“

Auggie’s gaze snapped to the girl in front of her, irritatingly concerned expression all over again, but at least the Apollo camper’s had the decency to try to keep some semblance of calm about them. This one did at least. “Felix says a lot of things,” she interjected sharply. “I’m fine.” The other girl frowned which only served to irritate Auggie further. Was it not possible to have a bruised, bloodied hand and little difficulty breathing around her without everyone looking at you like a lost puppy? “I have some painkiller here,” Maria continued firmly, clearly not accepting the halfhearted lie. “And Mirabelle said something about you getting hit in the ribs? If you just let me—“ Auggie stepped back, despite not having much room to move in the tight space, one hand reflexively going to the handle of a knife. She wasn’t going to attack the girl, she wasn’t that off her rocker yet, but the defensive move came without a thought, on instinct.

“Come near me and you’ll be the one needing medical attention,” she warned, the threat losing a little bit of heat as she sucked in a gasp, wincing at the sharp pain in her side. Without giving the daughter of Apollo a chance to respond, she slipped away behind a crowd, eyes searching for where Felix and Orin had gone. She found them quickly, ignoring the buzzing dizziness in her head as she stumbled over, trying not to show any hint of pain or anxiety on her face, and likely not doing as good a job as she thought she was. “Your siblings have absolutely no chill,” she muttered in Felix’s direction before turning her gaze to Orin. She didn’t give him that awful look of worry and sympathy, she had a feeling he was just as tired of that as she was—if not more given the state he was in, and she wasn’t the type for that anyways. “You good?” she asked simply, aware of the obvious answer but asking regardless.

Cass began to head up the hill towards the stables at Delilah's suggestion. She felt Delilah's hand shaking and gave her a reassuring squeeze in response. Cass had a small idea as to why she would be nervous and decided to chalk it up to Mira and or her sister. Cass stopped in her tracks however when she saw a fight break out between Auggie, Leo, and Orin, then it looked like Mira came over and tried to stop it but she soon walked off Cass watching her in shocked silence as she went by "You go talk about your feelings and I'm going to stay here and see if I can figure out what in Tartarus just happend" Cass said giving Delilah's shoulder a squeeze before moving closer she decided to keep her distance since she didn't want to get in the way and it appeared Auggie had finished the fight. "Good for her"Cass thought impressed and it looked like Aiden and the Apollo campers had things under control so she figured that she would stay here and watch until someone needed her.

Jack began to look around hoping to see Izzy and give her a pet but he didn't see her anywhere "Do you need help finding Izzy" Jack asked hoping to be of help since Hank was helping him out and he wanted to help out his friend.

Aiden offered no snippish replies to anything Leo said, the two making the trek in silence. "Whichever you want." The son of Athena kept his voice level; he wasn't angry yet, but given the course of events prior to now, Leo would be one to do it. "We're both children of a war god, that fire is in our blood." Aiden retrieved a second dagger from his belt, using it to arm himself. "We don't have to fight, we never have to fight. But there is a lesson you need to learn." He vaguely recalled Leo's first year at Camp Half-Blood, only remembering the name by the scarce training classes he was apart of. It wasn't a surprise when he was claimed as a child or Ares; he was a phenomenal fighter, and he outpaced the rest of the class in a matter of days. Aiden passed him on to a more advanced tutor, but he would have preferred to teach him himself. Not my greatest choice. He admitted. "On your feet," he commanded, discarding his shield. He wanted a fair fight between the two, and if Aiden came out less than unscathed, so be it. It was a mess he need clean up before he left, possibly for good. "I'm giving you the combat course I should have given you when you came to camp."

Death seemed to find Khione's response visibly amusing, and it appeared he'd had his fill of groveling to stay on her good side. So that was Khione's selling point; Eris sounded far more reserved in her decision, only coming to a conclusion after his own spiel ended. Still, she had her own reasons for offering support; namely, this Vessel seeming responsible for calling her back from the depths. "Don't mistake my agreement for submission." the horseman warned. "I have my share of concerns; you say this could be my apocalypse. That's not something you want, as I can promise you the results aren't too keen to be altered. Last Judgement calls for a grand revision and a dismissal of the old order. For now, I don't take issue with you having your own revision before that comes to pass." a pause, Nicholas returning to his senses as his anger slowly faded. Was this something he wanted to agree to? The horseman longed for a second taste of apocalypse, but he wasn't quite ready for the world to end. Perhaps this happy medium would sit well with both sides. "However," he continued, regaining momentum. "that means I have some business to attend to before I can open the Doors. My kin, the other horsemen, they long for Last Judgement as I do. Still, I can't allow them to roam free. We've all had our taste; this vessel, myself─my role as the horseman stemmed from our initial release. Premature, and thus the others were since returned to their cage. Once I'm certain they're bound until the trumpet's call, I'll open the Doors. As for their keeper, I'll tell you what I told Khione; I have it handled. If he decides to intervene, I'll take care of it." The tension in the air subside sluggishly, Death's shoulders beginning to loosen as he relaxed. "I have a sister. A mother and father, mortals who I call my kin. If I have a place in this new order, then this promised land is for them as well."

When Felix thanked her for her help, she felt a rush of heat to her face. "It's - it's no trouble, really." She wasn't in it for the praise - that much was clear. If anything, being thanked made her a little uncomfortable. Soon enough, Felix and Auggie were whisking Orin inside, distracting her from her thoughts. Right. He's safe now - as safe as he could be with those injuries. I should leave now so I don't get in the way.
Mirabelle was about to head back when Valkeri's voice caught her attention. "I just -" she stopped herself mid-sentence, forcing down the frustration that had bubbled to the surface. I just explained. There would be no use in biting the other girl's head off, she knew. Instead, she forced herself to be patient. "There was a fight. Orin got badly injured, Auggie more minorly so." A brief recapitulation of the events, she knew. "Just - take care of them, like I said. I need to go."
With that, she turned and strode towards the stables once more. This time, Mirabelle didn't jog or rush - she allowed herself to walk at a regular pace. Her heart raced in her chest as she made her way along the crisp trail, following the footsteps in the snow. Now that she was out of the crisis situation, her emotions had started to catch up with her again. Worry clouded her mind, distorting her thoughts. What if it's worse than it seemed? What if he's not going to make it? Gods, what if Auggie's really hurt? What if, what if, what if. There will be no more deaths on my watch. Her own words coming back to haunt her. Try as she might, she couldn't control death. She couldn't control fate. I'll - I'll send Felix or someone an iris message when I get the time. Find out if they're okay. That brought her a little relief, at least. She knew Felix would be her best bet at getting a straight answer concerning both Auggie and Orin's state of being - those two had a tendency to act like everything was okay when in reality, it was farthest from. But she couldn't judge them for that. She did the same thing, after all; faulting them for that behaviour would make her a hypocrite.
The structure of the stables rose before her. Firefly's ears pricked up as Mirabelle returned, though the mare made no move to come greet her again. She could probably tell that Mirabelle had other things on her mind at the moment. Returning to the scene of the fight, Mirabelle retrieved her travel first-aid kit from the snow. She took a mental inventory, noting which items might need restocking if they stopped at a pharmacy on the quest. I'll certainly need more gauze pads, at least. She walked a few paces over to her discarded backpack and carefully gathered some of the belongings that had scattered when she'd dropped it. Once it was as well-organised as it had been, she slung it over her shoulders. Right - I left my duffel inside the stables. Her duffel bag had her armour and weapons in it currently - it would be best to grab that and at least secure her small arsenal onto her person before heading out of camp. She ducked inside the building, grateful for the warmer temperature that accompanied the action as she waved a quick hello in acknowledgement of the other demigods. Right. Riding lessons. I offered to give riding lessons. There was still a little time for that, she reckoned. The dark red bag near the wall caught her attention, pulling her focus out if her thoughts. Before sliding the duffel bag over her shoulder, she dove inside to retrieve her belt of weapons. Upon first glance, it looked like a makeover artist's arsenal - tubes of lipstick, a hairbrush, a comb, et cetera. But each implement held a deadly secret. Once she was all set, Mirabelle turned to address the group of people inside the stables.
"If anyone still needs a brief riding lesson, let me know. I'll be outside." Her tone was a little sharper than usual, marked b the stress of the recent incidents. She offered a smile in hopes of clearing that up a little, but even that act felt tense. Taking a small breath, she headed back out into the cold and strode over to wait by Firefly.

Juliet nodded slowly while she listened to Sa'd and Set speak. She crossed her arms tighter over her chest as she regarded this newcomer - another adult, she noticed. And a rather alluring one at that. Sporting a tight burgundy t-shirt and a pair of black jeans, with a really awesome black leather jacket around her shoulders. Fingers covered in golden rings, a lion's head pendant dangling around their neck. Her golden eyes framed with black eyeliner. And were those combat boots? Man, Juliet wished she looked that cool. She felt dull by comparison, with her beat-up jeans and holey purple sweater. Her aviator jacket was pretty sweet, she reckoned. That ought to earn her some 'cool' points at least.
"Trading instead of taking... yeah, I can swing that." Juliet shifted on her feet. "Colourful rocks you say..." A sinister look crossed her face. A plan was starting to formulate in her brain of how to trick the gryphon, though she'd have to run it by Hu first. Oh, and Caspia, if she was the pranking type. "Yeah, sure. I'll tell ya how it goes." She waved offhandedly, though she would probably forget her agreement the moment Sa'd left.
"Anyways, good to meetcha, sad dude. And chaos guy or whatever. See you around. Or maybe not." She shrugged, her typical air of nonchalance doing its work. "And you too, I guess." The latter was directed at the adult and the weird girl following her around, though Juliet hadn't caught either's name. All in all not a big deal. She probably would've just forgotten their names anyways.

"Like, thanks, man!" Chuck bleated, breaking into a grin. "You have like, no idea how relieving it is to hear that, you know?" He watched as Yuno jotted something down, absently chewing on his sleeve. Always organised, that one. They reminded him of Mira in that sense - though Mira tended to have a mental checklist rather than a physical one. He absently wondered if Mira's mental checklist was colour-coded and had little sticky notes all over it.
"Uh, so like, where do we even start?" Chuck shuffled his hooves in the snow. "We can totally like, get the other satyrs to help and stuff, most of them are like, trying to anyways, I think." He'd seen a few fellow satyrs out in the woods, mostly consoling dryads and attempting to offer help, though they had seemed a bit confused as to how exactly to do so.

Zahra was a bit miffed at being called a 'girl' by the chaos god - she was two hundred and seventeen years old, for crying out loud. That, and they weren't fully a woman to begin with. Sure, she had been using 'she/her' pronouns more in her head that day, but that tended to fluctuate depending on how they felt. Nonetheless, the Eye of Sekhmet led the Host of Set and their accompanying god behind a row of buildings, which Chiron had called 'cabins' earlier. Zahra thought that was rather funny - the only building that looked cabin-like in any regard to her was the one the aforementioned gryphon was seated outside. They checked back to make sure that Jay was following; she and Anubis should hear this information as well.
When they were far enough out of earshot of any demigods, Zahra stopped walking and turned to face the three. "Jay and Anubis, I believe, have already made my acquaintance, but allow me to introduce myself. I am Zahra Abubakar Nashwa Al-Amin, Magician of the Ninth Nome and current Eye of Sekhmet. I wish there were time for more formalities, but I must 'get to the point', as they say." Her tone was clear and sharp, but not unkind. Their mixed Arabic-London accent had thickened in her haste, and they hoped the three could comprehend what she was saying. "Set, Anubis - we need your help. The Duat is in chaos - almost literally, I'm afraid. You two recall the Ogdoad, though I am uncertain if your Hosts have recollection. Hosts, do either of you know of the Ogdoad? I can explain briefly if I must."
-
At Jay's admission, Zahra's face grew almost disappointed. "I see. They must not be teaching the Ogdoad cosmology in your Nome. Shame on them." She hadn't necessarily meant it in a mean nor chastising way, but it certainly came out that way. "The Ogdoad are eight gods; the first gods. They were born of the Sea of Chaos and are thought to be extensions of Isfet itself." She paused to let that sink in. "The eight are as follows. Nun and Naunet; the gods of chaos and water, Heh and Hauhet; gods of boundlessness, Kuk and Kauket; gods of darkness, and Amun and Amaunet; gods of invisibility, of air, and void. They are frog and snake gods respectively. " She watched the two teenagers' faces as she continued. "Something has greatly angered them, and caused them to awaken from their slumber. They are wreaking havoc in the Duat; tearing it completely asunder. The Sea of Chaos - it is expanding. You can see why I have been sent. We need your help. The gods need your help."

The Vessel smiled that grotesque, too-wide smile at Eris's words. If They were thinking something, They did not say it. Instead They nodded Their body's head like a puppetmaster manipulating a marionette. Though it was hard to tell behind the sunglasses, They seemed pleased with . The expression of bemusement never quite left Their sallow face, however. "If we are agreed..." Their disjointed voice was almost purring. "Eris; Prime Minister Kingston. Big fan of your work on Camp Jupiter. Keep it up." Their body gave an almost robotic thumbs-up, accompanied by that haunting grin. "As for you, Death... You'll have your land for your mortals. Go ahead and check the seals; do what you must. But we would like those Doors open today. We have a limited window while the gods and their offspring are distracted by our allies' interventions. If we have our way, they'll be none the wiser to our true plans." Their form shimmered, momentarily becoming wavy and distorted. "Our foothold here in this form is... limited, for now. We must away shortly. Until we meet again... keep the chaos rollin', baby." The amusement in Their sunken visage was almost palpable; as if They had just told a joke that only They understood. The Vessel made a motion that looked like a sad attempt at fingerguns as They faded with a light pop.
When Their presence dissipated, the light returned to the cavern like a switch coming up from a dimmer.
"Well, that was... something." Khione's voice rang out across the space. The goddess had remained mostly quiet for the time being; her part in the negotiations having been mostly completed by the act of summoning the potential allies to the meeting. But now that the Vessel was gone, she was forced to take a more active role. In truth, the goddess was unsure of exactly what to do given the end of negotiations.
