{the large group out to find cilantropaw is at it all day long. the wind storms brought in a bunch of rain, washing away any traces of the poor tom's route. after a while, mirestar's emotions get the best of her. she howls and sobs for her lost son. then, the new warrior has a brilliant idea. they tell the leader that, when they were young, they themselves got lost in a storm. there's a nifty hiding spot somewhere in the southern forest. without any other option, the patrol goes to look for him there. against all odds, they find cilantropaw! he's soaked, shivering, and extremely terrified, but he's alive. beside him is a small apprentice, around the same age as cilantropaw. apparently, this cat has been looking after the poor tom for the past moon. cilantropaw begs his mother to allow them to join the clan}

flareblood, mouflonclimb, and hillfrost approach satinstar immediately after completing the border patrol, dismissing the other younger cats who were in the patrol with them. the three older cats share a slightly worried look before satinstar notices them, the dilute calico dismissing her brother nettlebite whom she had been speaking with, gesturing with her head for the trio of cats to approach her.

"flareblood, mouflonclimb, hillfrost. i assume something happened on patrol if you felt the need to approach me. what is it?" her pale green eyes met the eyes of each cat in respect of their time, settling into a seated position as she waited for one of the other cats to speak.

it was the large orange tabby tom that spoke first; after all, he had been the one who technically had been chosen to lead the patrol, so he felt it was his responsibility to bring up the concerns. "we came across a trail of pawprints of cats whose scents were unfamiliar to us; the number of prints and the multitude of scents made us believe it was more than just one or two passing loners, but an actual group of rogues. we didn't see any of them, but we didn't go after them. we knew to bring it to you first."

satinstar stayed quiet for a moment, contemplating the words that had been spoken to her. this was a bit of a strange dilemma, as she had no idea who these cats were or what they could want. "and you are sure that it wasn't something left over from the spirits we only recenrly finished dealing with?" she knew it was too much to hope for, but she couldnt help but wish that would be the easy solution.

it was the grey persian tom who spoke next, shaking his head sadly, a hint of fire showing up in his eyes at the thought of the cat spirits who had taken the lives of his mate and one of his kits. "no satinstar. these were far too real and too recent to mhave been from those monsters. these came from physical beings, true cats like you and i."

the archangel could not help the soft sigh that escaped from her maw, a slight shiver running over her spine, causing her fur to stand up ever so lightly. "alright. hawkfrost's hunting patrol was designated to go fishing in the gihon river to catch any of the variety of fish that were found there. however, pandapatch was the only cat to catch a fish before the group of ten were interrupted by the approach of a strange cat. everyone in the patrol froze where they stood or sat, ears pinning and eyes searching the undergrowth for the appearance of the approaching sound.

a pure white oriental tom slipped out from between the clusters of bushes. the younger cats in the patrol likely didn't notice, but some of the older cats like hawkfrost and rippledream could see that his long fur was laying limply along his body in such a way that his bones were jutting out at odd angles underneath the fur. he was practically skin and bone, a walking skeleton, but he walked with a strength that they couldn't tell where it came from.

young bubblesplash clearly was fascinated by the severe scarring that covered this new tom; he had a missing nick out of his ear, a large gash across his shoulder/chest, and a jagged cut that sealed his left eye shut. "are you okay sir? do you need help? we're from a clan, we can take you to our camp to be seen by our rit zien if you need; that's our healer."

the white oriental gave a small, gentle smile to the young cat, nodding his head politely at her words. his good eye sought out which cat in the group held the most power, who was in charge, and he landed on the ragdoll tom a few paces away. he waited for that cat to give permission, which hawkfrost did as he stood up and gave a nod of his head in the direction that lore assumed was the camp, and the entire group stood to follow.

it didn't take the group too long to arrive at the abandoned church building that the clan used as their home, with lore trailing along at the end of the group, petite bubblesplash chattering away at his side as they walked in. she was silenced by a look from hawkfrost as satinstar approached the group, clearly noticing the newcomer, and bubblesplash gave an encouraging smile to lore, whispering loudly; "i'll come find you later and we can finish our conversation then. good luck!"

satinstar looked over the white oriental carefully before offering a kind smile. "welcome to the celestial beings. my name is satinstar, and i am the archangel of this clan. what is your name? have you come to us alone or are there more with you?" the calico couldnt help but hope that this tom was a part of the group that her other patrol had taken notice of and brought up to her.

"my name is lore. i was traveling the last few moons with a friend of mine, my closest friend really; they're name is fallowmoon. but we were seperated about a week or two ago when we came across an unfriendly rogue group of cats and we had to split up to hide from them. i haven't been able to find fallowmoon since..." the tom's voice trailed off at the end, he couldn't help but worry about his friend who, he would not admit yet to anyone but himself, he had grown to have feelings for.

"i would like to stay and join your clan, satinstar. but i would also like to find my friend and have them join as well, because i know that they would like a place to settle down too." the oriental raised his stare to meet the leader's green eyes with his one blue eye, wondering what she would say to him, if she would agree. why should she risk her own cats to try and find someone she didnt know? was he foolish to ask...

"of course we will send out a patrol to find your friend. normally i would volunteer to lead it, but i have to lead a patrol in the morning to go after the rogues you spoke about. i will have my seraphim smogtongue lead the patrol for your friend, and we will ask for volunteers during the clan meeting to join the search." satinstar's tone of voice was soft and gentle, her eyes telling the tom before her that she cared and already considered him one of her own.

"i would like to be on that patrol please, if that's alright. fallowmoon has been through a lot of trauma in their past and can be very skiddish around new cats. if i'm there, i can help keep them calm because they trust me." lore's voice was soft but his tone held a strength to it, like he wouldn't take no for an answer. his tense body relaxed a bit as satinstar smiled and nodded to him.

Darkheart is visited by a spirit who warns him that a cat in the clan plans to
get rid of him. Waking up scared he goes to talk to Badgermask for comfort but
overhears her talking to Wildflame and Boulderstrike, her closest allies at this
point. He hears about the new allies she’s gained and Boulderstrike mentions
Emberfoot’s death. He begins to panic and runs off, thinking that he got away.
But as the trio’s meeting ends Badgermask notices pawprints in the dirt and
knows someone heard what they were saying.

Tayra woke, eyes blurry, hoping against hope that maybe should could forget last night. Her body ached even as she sat still, refusing to pick her head up. She didn't want to face the day.. not yet. She'd lay in this hollow in this strange tree for a while longer. The rainforest was a constant cacophony but as the sunlight seeped between the thick trees, rarely managing the touch the damp ground, it only grew worse. The bugs began to sing, the birds began their dances and the predators made their move. Tayra, still curled up in her tree hollow, swallowed the lump in her throat. She had to get up and begin moving or someone, better yet, something would find her.

This was her nightmare. Waking, running, sleeping though the sleep was hardly more then an hour at a time, and running some more. Tayra hardly had time to eat more often then not. At least lately. Flashes of her previous life swam in her front of her. Her happiness, her trust, her love. It shattered quite quickly as a toucan landed in front of her hollow with a harsh squawk.

Tayra hissed, leaping to her sore pawpads. She lashed out, hardly trying to actually hit the large bird, before darting out past the thing. She found herself on the thick branch of the massive tree. Thankfully, last night she'd chosen a hollow rather close to the ground and it only took her three branch leaps to thud onto the molding ground below. She knew this dance - running again. It was beginning to grow a bit tiresome.. but what else could she do, give in and let this world devour her? No. Not Tayra, never.

She came to a halt as she reached a river, gently tossing over itself and the panic she thought she'd been feeling before overwhelmed her. Anyone who lived here knew better then to tread in the water. Dangerous creatures, far worse then those on the surface, dwelled just beneath the murky surface, waiting, watching. The she-cat swallowed her panic, pushing herself into a slow walk a few tail-lengths away from the seemingly welcoming waters. Her stomach growled and she cursed her body for needed to worry about itself when the world was so hostile. She listened the to undergrowth, focusing her ears on the smallest sounds around her, almost drowned out the soft song of the river. She paced along for quite some time when a building came into view. A toppled over, over-grown, fading temple. It was across the river so it hardly struck her as somewhere she could go but rather it was... pretty. Something Tayra didn't think often in this place - everything was miserable.

She let out little more then a hmph as she continued to trudge on, leaving the crumbling temple on the river's edge behind her. Tayra again focused on the sounds around her. Aside from the song of birds waging verbal war above her she could hear a guinea pig nibbling on tree roots, a weasel digging in the mulch, and a tree frog's moist feet releasing from a leaf to leap to it's next landing pad. Her mouth began to water as she chose a target, lowering her haunches to the soggy earth, stalking forward.

The weasel was right in front of her, digging with no notice of the world around it and as she drew her muscles in to pounce a sound sang out so close it made her heart stop. A scream - a battle cry. A howler monkey, alerting anything within it's area that it was here and it was angry. Every sound she'd previously heard escaped her as all life ran for it's life.. A howler monkey was dangerous.. almost as dangerous as a panther or tiger in the flesh. Tayra swallowed hard - what did she do? Run? Stay here? Hide?

Another scream echoed through the rainforest and birdsong died. The normally boisterous forest grew deathly silence, causing Tayra to shiver. Just as she grew the courage to push her muscles to run a weight hit the ground next to her, causing her muscles to tremble with the force. The scream that silenced the rainforest sounded so close that the sound waves made her fur ruffle. She turned her head and was greeted with a giant howler monkey glaring down on her, a rage like she'd never seen in any living creature blazing in this one's eyes. Tayra ran before she could think of anything else to do. Her body may have been sore this morning but if there was a time to push her body past it's limits it was now. The monkey barreled after her, using all it's limbs to keep pace with her and even leaping at the closest branches to fling itself just a little closer. Tayra could feel the things rage on her heels, searing her fur down to her skin. She'd never felt a fear quite like this, so blinding, so captivating. She felt her legs growing weak with the effort of keeping up this tiresome pace. While she was limited to her four limbs moving in unison her rival could use one set at a tire, choosing which to tire and which to save for later.

Before long Tayra felt her whole body fly forward, tearing at her tail - the monkey held her tail between it's dirty fingers. The pain almost made the she-cat scream out but.. to what avail? She had lost. Yes, it was painful but the fight in her roared to life. The howler monkey tossed her body hard against the damp earth and she thudded and bounced several feet away, all air leaving her lungs. She wheezed and tried to get to her paws but the impact of the earth just moments before left her with nothing to work with. The howler monkey screamed in victory and Tayra watched it terror as it grew closer. Air was building in her lungs and she stumbled to her paws, weakly hissing at the foul creature in front of her and it seemed to laugh at her attempt. A grotesque hand reached out for her and Tayra flinched - this was it. Her demise was upon her.

The expected hurl never came.. she simply stood, eyes tightly shut, waiting for the monkey to grab her like the ragdoll she felt and end her but.. nothing. She peeked her eyes open to see the once furious monkey replaced by an image a sheer terror. Tayra saw her own fear reflected now in this howler monkey and she almost laughed. What on earth was happening? Before she could even try to answer her own question a massive weight, easily five times to weight of the monkey, fell down near Tayra. The she-cat was huddled over herself as she awaited the monkey's ending strike and now she found she was frozen with fear. A roar, feline, resounded throughout the forest and Tayra watched as a panther struck out it's massive paw, striking the howler monkey directly in the face. A wound opened across one eye and the creature screamed - this time in pain and fear - and turned tail to run. Tayra could hear it's screams for several long moments as she sat in huddled fear.

"Tayra." the mighty beast beside her spoke, a voice so deep it sounded like an earth giant.

Tayra carefully and very slowly turned her gaze. A panther stood before her, an image of pure majesty and elegance. She swallowed hard, "...hello." she whispered.

The panther displayed little more then apathy as it continued, "Tayra, you have been chosen by the forest. You must go back to where you saw the abandoned temple - you must revive the rituals of old, Tayra."

Rituals of old? Tayra's head spun. She'd woken up this morning sorry for herself and just nearly died and now something close to a god was asking her to revive some rituals? "I... but..."

The panther scooped Tayra up in a movement that probably should've caused the she-cat immense pain and yet she felt nothing but comfort. In the blink of an eye the duo were across the river and Tayra was on the earth again, looking up into the golden eyes of the massive cat, "Go back to the temple, find the hollow in the tree to the west, climb until you feel you cannot climb any longer. You shall find me and many others there."

The panther turned to leave and Tayra suddenly found her strength to speak, "Wait! you can't expect me to do this alone! I need help, I can't survive here alone!"

The black behemoth turned back to Tayra and touched his nose to hers - in the blink of an eye Tayra felt refreshed and ready for the adventure of a lifetime, "You shall serve as a shrine for our kind, Tayra.. You shall be a light in the dangerous tunnels we call home.. Burntshrine.."

The last word hung in the air like an omen as the panther walked away, disappearing into the dark, "Burntshrine.." Burntshrine repeated, somehow knowing without being told that this would be her new name...

- as more cats join lightclan, coalstar grows anxious about her ability to lead her clan
- being the only apprentice, pebblepaw starts to feel lonely
- the newest addition to the clan, eggnog, seems to settle in to clan life quickly! she seems to have already formed friendships with sorreltuft and turtlefleck
- mistyhaze has begun to act more secretive, and coalstar grows concerned for her sister
- thornstrike and stagleap get into a small argument. thankfully it seems to be resolved quickly
