In a book I read once, it said there is very few in the wild, while there is more grey wolves. Red Wolves need to be protected as well.

Yes, they also need to be protected, they are very rarely seen by humans.

To make you feel better, "wolf-a-boos" are people who say "OMG I HATE PPLS WHO HATE WOLVES I WISH WOLVES WOULD RIP THEM APART AND EAT THEIR FLESH!". I don't get the feeling that you are like this.

I too, feel sometimes ashamed to be a human, because of all the intelligence we have, and how many abuse it and use it against animals, which are not as intelligent, and because as a species we rule this world, we have to take responsibility for the animals, not kill them out of anger or intolerance just because we can.

But then, I just think to myself, "Without people, like me, who care about wolves and wish to protect them, what would they do?".

Here is a little poem about wolves, and the wrong humans do to them, it is titled "I am a wolf".

"I am wolf. I speak to you for my species. Please stop killing us.

We have walked this earth for thousands of years. We want to live in peace and raise our families. If we occasionally kill livestock it’s because we are hungry and you make it so easy. Nobody is guarding the cows and sheep. We are hunters and so we hunt. You kill billions of animals every year for food yet you blame us for a a few dozen cows?

People chase us with guns and shoot us. They use nasty traps that hurt our legs. Once in Alaska, one of our kind, a mother wolf, was stuck in a leg hold trap for fourteen days, she was so hungry her teeth were broken from eating rocks. Would you like to have your leg or arm stuck in a trap so you couldn’t get away? Then after you have been stuck for days or even weeks, with your family surrounding you but helpless to set you free, someone comes and shoots you?

You make us orphans to starve or kill us with our parents. You chase us in helicopter gun ships, we run for our lives but we can’t get away. Your shotguns riddle us with buckshot. We cry and howl in pain, then we die. This is wrong. We would never treat you this way.

We are wild, we don’t understand your rules. We can’t read signs or understand your boundaries. We are driven by hundreds of thousands of years of evolution. What we do is in our genes. We were put on this earth to keep ungulate herds healthy. We mean you no harm. Please stop killing our families. There is room on this land for both of us. You only have to find a place in your heart for us to dwell.

I am wolf…".

Really sweet poem.

That was a great poem. Well, I feel there are many humans who deserve being ripped apart and eaten by wolves, but that probably won't solve anything. I was a huge Wolfaboo when I was young, maybe I should join the pack and make a wolf Fursona :D

Hmmm, if wolfaboos are people who wish people who hate wolves to be ripped apart by them, then I am not by any means one. Yes, I love wolves. Yes, I respect their reality. But I do not wish harm on people who don't share my opinion. The only way you would be attacked by wolves in the wild, is if you had it completely cornered with no escape what-so-ever. Then, it might attack you. Or if it had rabies, then it would attack you. But there is not a huge chance of that happening. But I am not one of those people who see a wild wolf and be like, "OMG OMG I'm gonna go pet it!" No, let wildlife be in the wild. It will just run away anyways. The only thing I hate is poachers, for any animal. Did you know (proven fact here, not making it up) that elephants in the wild are starting to be born without tusks? Because of poaching, it is more likely that tuskless elephants live to pass on their genes. I hope that someday people can understand that poaching is wrong, for any animal. Tigers, cheetahs, elephants, leopards, all the 'prize poachees' need to be left alone.

Random rant up there, sorry. Needed to get my opinion out there :)

Wolves_rock; Yes, I've heard of the Elephant Inciddent. It's quite sad. You do have a point; there are lots of animals out there that need to be protected. Also, panda swould need to be protected. Especially because they are China's symbol.

Oh yes especially pandas. They are very difficult to get to breed, most of the time they don't get pregnant after mating. Even in the wild. Such pleasant animals, usually calm. I don't think I have ever heard of one being angry. Yet they are poached too. People abuse their power. I am glad to be human, and I don't wish us all to doom, but I do wish some of our species would listen to people like us so they don't destroy our wildlife.

And if that's the kind of attitude they have in your area alone, that doesn't make wolves the most misunderstood. The people in India and Taiwan don't care about wolves at all, they're worried 'bout mosquitoes.

Captain Spunky; Don't diss all humans 'cause ya' have a grudge.
And we know about how horrible humans are they destroy the planet and kill things etc etc etc, but there are many people who are actually trying to change that rather than hate about it.

Varoujan; Reason 2 made me laugh. Cause now wolves can read your minds.

I love many humans, but as a species I respect them a lot less than other animals. We are supposed to be "intelligent", but when I look at how most of us use our brains, I know we are certainly not wise. We are also pretty ugly, in my humble opinion. Hairless, plantigrade, sweaty, stinky, full of disease, fragile, grabby hands, fully exposed genitalia with no baculum, I could go on and on. The babies are even worse, I'd rather listen to a howling puppy than a screaming baby any day.

You're right, being a wolf-a-boo and thinking those thoughts never solves anything, it just makes you look very immature and generally idiotic.

You're quite welcome to rant, if you want to prove a point.

Wolves have attacked people, from fear, rabies, old wolves with severe hunger who wish to find an easy meal, and dominance. Whilst wolf attacks are very rare, they are not a myth, and the sad thing is, wolves are so very easy to fend off if they are not rabid.

To fend off a wolf that is acting dominantly towards you, the best thing to do is to clap your hands and move strongly towards the wolf, shouting loudly, but not screaming. Show aggression, and the wolf will think twice about fighting. The worst thing you can do is show fear and run, that will trigger their prey instincts, and most likely try and hunt you.

I am not one to say "I WANNA PET IT!" either, I respect nature, and respect an animal who prefers not to be cuddled by a complete stranger that isn't even the same species, or related in any way for that matter.

Panda's have attacked people, but I do not believe fatally. Anything with their strength has the power and the willingness to attack someone. And, because they are not often seen in the wild, attacks have happened in zoo's, often to keepers and guests who break the rules.

You could not be more right.

We, as a species, are the most intelligent, but most choose not to use their intelligence, and fail at life. We are generally ugly creatures, with wrinkly faces, bare pink skin, wirey hairs that cover our body. Nothing is subtle.

And as for human babies, they have to be less appealing than a naked mole rat. I literally feel ill when I stand close to a human baby, and I try not to look at it.
