โญโญโญ liontuft awoke to the sounds of his clanmates beginning to stir around him. mouse dung! he cursed himself silently as he sprung to his paws and glanced around the den. the deputy relaxed when he realised only a few of his denmates had actually woken up and he wasn't running as late as he thought. ever since starting his deputy duties, he loved to get up earlier than any other cat and go for a quick run around the territory; it woke him up in the mornings so he wasn't full of sleep when he started arranging patrols, plus, the territory in the early hours of the day were always so peaceful. it also gave him a chance to check what needed to be done around their home. liontuft blinked away his thoughts and shook the sleep out of his fluffy dark red fur. he would groom himself after he'd sent out the patrols; he was lucky enough that a quick shake of his pelt would tame it for a while.
he was about to start picking his way around the sleeping bodies of his fellow warriors when he caught a glimpse of his mate's body curled up, fast asleep, in her den next to his. he sighed, she was a very pretty she-cat and liontuft cared for her a lot but he was almost convinced she was just playing her part in the relationship. though this saddened him, it also pleased him; he was lucky to have been assigned a mate who was as loyal to the code as he was and he just wouldn't of been able to bare it if he was paired with someone like his mother. thoughts of his mother caused his eyes to stray to the empty nest on the other side of his. he had begun to miss the warmth of his sister's body next to him as he slept and the nights had felt lonelier now she had moved to the nursery. i mean, sure, he had pinebreath but the two were always so formal with each other and it's not like they never curled up together. liontuft let out a frustrated sigh, things were so complicated, and touched pinebreath's flank briefly with his fluffy ginger tail before padding out the warriors to start the day.
the deputy stepped out into the main camp's clearing and took a moment to take in the morning buzz of the clan. he caught a glimpse of fur out of the corner of his eye and turned his head to briarpaw and jaguarpaw burst out of the apprentice den, looking frantic. he let out a chuckle to himself as he heard the words "morning patrol" and "are we too late?" liontuft puffed out his chest as pride filled his body; it warmed his heart to see apprentices so eager to do their part for the clan.
he padded over to the two apprentices and sat down in front of them, curling his tail around his paw. "good morning you two. why don't you go and wake up your mentors and do the morning patrol today?" he paused for a moment while he thought of who else should be on the patrol, "tell them to take pigeonpoppy with you too." he added, spotting the tabby warrior sitting near the fresh-kill pile.
liontuft was distracted by his own apprentice, smokepaw, emerging from the apprentice den. "ah smokepaw," the dark red tom dipped his head in greeting to the small tabby, "how do you feel about some battle training today once i finish sending out the patrols?" he knew the apprentice preferred hunting over fighting but he would be way too energetic first thing in the morning to concentrate on the hunt so it would be best to burn off some of that energy, besides, they could always hunt on the way back. liontuft lifted his tail to signal he would be right back as he dashed off towards another pair of waking clanmates. "brilliant, leopardflame, burnshadow, off hunting if i hear correctly? good. take ghostwhisper, mosspaw and blizzardpaw with you as well." he nodded his fluffy ginger head formally to them both before trotting off back towards his apprentice without giving them a chance to reply.

โญโญโญ the pale morning light that filtered through the entrance to the warriors den glared through pebblefrost's eyelids, causing her to awake with a silent groan. as the newest warrior, the silver coated molly had the worst nest in the den; it was right near the entrance, the sun woke her every morning and she would often wake up with damp fur if it rained the night before. she missed the apprentice den deeply, it was so much warmer and it reminded her of a simpler time in her life; she wasn't as close to the warriors as she was to the apprentices and she missed training with her mentor, lilyleaf. the kind hearted queen had been like a mother to her during her apprenticeship and the fact that she wasn't there to share the warriors den with her anymore made her feel lonelier than ever. pebblefrost was happy for her former mentor, though, and she sent a silent prayer to starclan that all would go well with this litter of kits. at least she has waspwing. she decided, feeling a small flicker of jealousy that the tom seemed to care so deeply for the spotted queen. the young warrior let out a sigh as she turned her pale, yellow eyes on her own assigned mate. tigergaze was a handsome tom, there was no doubt about that, but the two had been mates for two moons already and had spent zero time together. pebblefrost could understand the distance from her mate; he'd spent sixteen moons without a mate and had grown accustom to being able to flirt with whoever he wish, well, that was until pebblefrost had been made a warrior and messed all that up. she was worried the tom resented her for taking away his freedom but she wasn't about to talk to him about it because she was still too shy around him as she had always had a crush on him herself. warrior life is so complicated compared to an apprentice's. the thought lead her to the decision to visit lilyleaf in the nursery and she gave a swift lick to her silver pelt before rising to her paws and padding out of the den.
once out in the clearing, pebblefrost headed straight for the fresh-kill pile, examining it closely. the young molly spotted a decent looking blackbird and picked it up gently in her jaws. the clan's code called for queens to be one of the first fed so at least she could carry out her clan duties while visiting her former mentor. with a feeling of satisfaction, she trotted happily to the cave dug into the wall of the gorge that formed the nursery and pushed her way through quietly so that she didn't wake any of the sleeping cats inside. pebblefrost was startled to see a plump rabbit and the body of waspwing laid next to lilyleaf's delicate frame. "oh waspwing, my apologises," she mewed softly to her ex mentor's mate, "i was just bringing lilyleaf some breakfast but it seems you beat me to it." she lowed herself onto her belly, tucking her pale stripped paws neatly under her chest. "i'm happy for shadowheart to have this blackbird though, it looks like she's going to need all the energy she can get with that bundle of energy." she chuckled, nodding her head in the direction of fogkit, who was up on her paws yowling in her mother's ear.

โญโญโญ smallfern shuffled around uncomfortably in her nest; the night had been fairly chilly but she didn't have the warmth of her mate sleeping next to her for her to rest comfortably. the two had been mates for a few moons now but the fluffy black and white molly knew whiteberry's heart didn't belong to her. of course nothing had been said to her directly, but she saw the way her mate looked at other she-cats, especially peachpaw and lilyleaf. smallfern liked her mate a lot, he seemed like such a sweet, caring tom and while she wasn't sure she had feelings for him, it still hurt her that he showed very little interest in her. the clan's code forbade relationships outside of the ones assigned by their leader, so why couldn't whiteberry at least pretend to make an effort with her? then she decided. if whiteberry wasn't going to make the effort with her, then it was down to her to make the effort with him. i'll show him he has no reason to stray from this relationship! she thought to herself with more courage than she felt, i want a family at some point and if we're stuck together he's going to need to pay attention to me for that to happen.
smallfern rose to her paws and turned to her mate's sleeping white body before giving him a gentle prod in his flank. "u-um, w-whiteberry?" she stammered, always so shy to talk to him, "d-do you maybe w-want to get some b-breakfast with me this morning?" the bicoloured molly leaned away from her mate as she spoke, ready to turn-tail and run away in embarrassment if he rejected her. she jumped suddenly as the sound of a rustling nest sounded behind her. she spun around on her paws to see it was just one of her denmates waking and leaving the den. good, she thought, feeling relieved as she let out a breath of rapture, the walls of the den aren't collapsing. with a disappointed frown at herself for being so jumpy she turned her attention back to her mate as she waited for him to reply to her invitation. smallfern padded the ground with her paws anxiously; whiteberry accepting her invitation would be the first step to making their assigned relationship work, or for them to at least be friends, and she didn't want to think about what she would do if he declined. she knew a lot of her clanmates thought she was a bit weird with her irrational fears and skittishness so she didn't exactly have many friends to confide in about her problems.
