Hunter Mayhem | Ares | Tagging: Cresolis | Location: Dining Pavilion
Hunter was so very tempted to call her out on it, but bit his tongue. This is exactly what Kade's talking about. He reminded himself. He leaned back against the wall. "I have zero idea how you figured out who my dad is," he admitted. It hadn’t been that long ago he’d been claimed, but not a TON of people had been around, and it had never been a huge deal. He’d never cared for it to be one either. "Good at guessing, orrrr...?" He trailed off, raising an eyebrow. "And for that matter, who's your godly parent?" He couldn’t tell just by looking at her.

Hunter Mayhem | Ares | Tagging: Cresolis | Location: Dining Pavilion
"Guess that makes sense," he decided. Hunter generally carried himself in a closed off or even confrontational manner at the best of times. Relaxing? What was that? Some people gave away their parentage through their looks. Cresolis did not. Hunter looked her up and down with a critical eye, but her posture and dialogue betrayed nothing. He shook his head. "Coming up blank. "I got nothing. At all. If I HAVE to guess, maybe..." he trailed off, more than anything worried about getting things wrong. If that happened, it’d just be embarrassing! "Athena? Maaaaybe Demeter, but I doubt it." She didn’t seem as passive as most of the Demeter kids were. She had more fire to her. He could see that in her eyes. A bright intelligence, spirit. He could admire that.

[✩] Augusta Reynolds|17|she/her|Hades|Head counsellor|arena|tags:Auggie stumbled out of the arena and into the snow, her legs carrying her on a mission that her hazy mind was barely aware of, bringing her closer and closer to a moment she wasn’t prepared to face. She felt weak and shaky, and a little sick, but she pushed those feelings aside and forged on ahead.
She reached cabin thirteen and pushed the door open by staggering against it with her entire body. She blinked in the dim light as she looked around, making sure nobody else was present before shutting the cabin door behind her. She slipped one of her knives out of it’s sheathe, found a spot of sunlight streaming in through the window, and used it to create the reflection of a rainbow. Drachma, she needed a drachma. She felt her pockets frantically, unable to recall where she’d left one. She fell less than gracefully to her knees and reach a hand under her bunk, pulling out a few scraps of paper, an old candy bar wrapper, and a golden drachma. She pushed to her feet again, legs wobbling, and recreated the reflection.
“Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow, please accept my offering.” She tossed the drachma into the rainbow and watched it disappear, willing her eyes to stay focused and for her legs to hold her up just a little bit longer. She wasn’t going to talk to her mom for the first time in five years just for the woman to ridicule her for being a weakling who couldn’t take a hit. “One twenty nine, Cottonwood road,” She mumbled, choosing to say the location rather than the name of her mother. She probably couldn’t afford to move out of the dingy old house they’d lived in, she was probably still there.
The air shimmered in front of her and the image that appeared was certainly not her mother, even with a bashed up head she could tell that. An old man was sitting there, leaning back on the couch Auggie used to watch cartoons on. He hadn’t seemed to notice her yet. Maybe she’d gotten the address wrong? No, she knew that address well enough from all the times she’d heard it recited at the police stations. It was possible she had said it wrong with the way her speech seemed to be slurring together, but she didn’t think she had. Could this be a client? Her mom had gone through several jobs in the last few years Auggie had been with her, it was possible.
Finally, the man looked up, jumping in surprise to see a rather beaten up, tired looking demigod in a bloody Nirvana hoodie floating beside him. He didn’t seem to be nearly as shocked as one would expect, simply a little confused. “Hi...” Auggie said slowly, having no better option now than to see this through. Her heart was pounding in her chest, and she couldn’t stop her eyes from constantly scanning the back of the room ahead of her, fearing that at any moment her mother would appear around the corner.
This was a mistake. She shouldn’t have done this. What had she been thinking? She didn’t want to see her mom, she definitely didn’t want to talk to her, and she knew her mom felt the same way. She started to get the feeling of pins and needles in her face and mouth, her hands starting to form ice crystals again. This was wrong. This was wrong. This was wrong.
She was drawn out of her descending spiral of panic by a friendly smile from the old man in front of her. “Hello, dear. How are you? One second, let me just turn down Jeopardy.” He leaned forward, reaching for a TV remote and pointing it out of Auggie’s field of vision before turning back to her with a friendly gaze and kind eyes. She was taken aback slightly by his expression, unsure how to react. Was it possible this man had seen an Iris message before? “Now, what is this I’m seeing right now? Is this that facetube my grandson was telling me about? He said he’d help me set it up one day but we hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Bradley’s a good boy, you know, just last week—“
“Uh, yes,” Auggie cut him off quickly, not really wanting to hear more of that story and not knowing what other explanation she could possibly give this man who was clearly very mortal. “Yes, it is.” Her heart was still pounding in her ears, making it difficult to hear anything, and she could feel bile rising in her throat, but she had to do this. She swallowed, taking a moment to steady herself before she spoke again. “I’m looking...I’m looking for Vanessa Reynolds?” She said finally, trying desperately to ignore how weak and trembly her voice sounded.
The old man stared at her for a moment, looking as though he was trying to recall exactly what they were talking about. Maybe she had moved, Auggie thought, maybe this man didn’t even know who she was. She was nearly overcome with a surge of relief at the thought, but that washed away instantly when the mans expression fell, sadness and regret overtaking his kind eyes. “Sweetheart, I’m really sorry to be the one to tell you this...Miss Reynolds passed away four years ago. Did you—“
Auggie didn’t hear the rest of his sentence. She swiped a hand through the mist, dissipating the connection before she sunk to the floor, landing hard on her knees. Her mother hadn’t ignored her. She’d never responded to her letter because she’d never gotten it. Four years ago. This entire time she’d thought... She drew in a shaky breath, her brain feeling more numb than it had before. This couldn’t be real. Though she hadn’t really wanted to speak to her mother, the mere idea of it had sent her shaking and trembling, but now that the possibility was entirely gone, she wasn’t sure how to feel.
Everything she had been holding back for the last five years came out at once, like a dam breaking, releasing every drop of pent up emotions in an unstoppable flood. Her body was racked with sobs as she sunk forward, burying her face in her hands as hot tears spilled from her eyes, smearing black makeup across her cheeks and ripping away every shred of a wall she’d ever built up. Her brain didn’t have the capacity to worry about anyone seeing her like this, all she knew was the growing pain in her chest and the numb sensation in her hands as ice formed across her fingertips again.
if only i could keep you in my pocket
to give me some diagnosis of why i'm so hollow
please give me instructions, i promise i'll follow
i tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
but doesn't that mean that the tour's gonna sell, though?
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted
but after an hour, it sounds like complaining
wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever?
you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better?
the universe works in mysterious ways
but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me
doctor, should i be good, should i be good this year?

Bay Laurel, Immortal, Female, Drayd, Location: Apollo Cabin, Tags: Niji, Mentions: None
Bay paused when Niji started their torrent of questions. At his first one she paused. He had just gotten there the other day... so he was new. She hadn't known that. Then again, she knew everyone's name no matter how new, just not much about them. She did remember Niji was a Dionysus child, though. Nature demigods were very important to the dryads and were always told first when one got claimed. Plus, they could almost sense the nature on the demigod and sometimes knew even before they got claimed. Bay tried to answer some of Niji's questions, but the words were flowing so fast from his mouth, that she never got a chance! He continued asking and suddenly grabbed her arm before letting go quickly. Bay Laurel laughed good-naturedly. He certainly did seem to get caught up in the moment. "Well, I will try to start at the beginning. Your first question... ah yes! The quest! Well usually there are quite a few quests, but this one seems very important especially since it affected Camp so badly. That is why everyone is freaking out about it." She paused, her eyes downcast as she thought about having to tell him what had happened. "You see, after the snow, the Big House collapsed. Eighteen campers died. There has been a lot of panic. That is why my day hadn't been going as great. But most of the Nyphms are doing fine now, even the Lake Nyphms, though their lake is frozen over. It's just pretty cold for our life-support. I think the Hephaestus campers got some heat warmers to some of the other dryad's trees. I personally hate technology, but I think my tree will be fine for now." That wasn't exactly true. She could feel chills spread up her arms as her poor sun-loving laurel life-tree started to freeze. But she could deal with that later. She didn't want to worry the boy or any other campers. "I think that was all your questions?"

Niji nodded.
"I think it was. Are you sure you're all right? They touched Bay's arm.
"What about the harpies? I could knit them so sweaters. I dom't want them to freeze."
Niji said worridly.

Sa'd shrugged.
"We don't have to worry about him because my uncle got wind of how he's treating the horses and Griffins and is putting the farm in my name. I just have to learn how to be a host before I get it."
"You act as if it's normal."
Set hummed.
"It's not normal, but my uncle talked about giving it to me for years, so it's a bit of common knowlege."
Sa'd explained.
"Not everyday it happens though."

mentioned: dahlia╚xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx╝ dahlia's response was welcome. if teilo was being honest with himself, he was just thankful that she hadn't started screaming. or crying. or overtly showing any distraughtness - he wasn't sure what exactly he would have done in that situation. pat her on the back? tell her it was all alright? the thought was almost worse than the sight of the cadaver.
almost.
not because death was a bad thing - he knew it wasn't. not objectively. he had seen it many times, and could count on one hand the frequency of times it had felt like it actually hurt - but because it felt like an omen. there was danger even in the safest place on the planet for people like him, like dahlia, like the rest of the campers. no-one was safe from the threats of the enemy, even when hiding behind seemingly arbitrarily-placed barrier lines.
"yeah," he muttered. "we didn't get the best deal on all of that stuff." he cleared more of the snow, revealing more of his body with each pile pushed to the side, and once he had done so, he pursed his lips. "safe travels. the chain will link again."
after a moment of silent watching, as though waiting for the boy to leap up, act as though it was all for pretend, in vain, teilo moved to hook his arms underneath the cold underside of his flat back and under his knees, lifting the body as though it were a blushing bride rather than a reminder of their frail mortality. "gonna have to take him back," he said, shifting the weight in his arms. "i don't - i don't even know where to take him."

mentioned: aydan,
ophelia╚xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx╝ celeste's attentions turned to ophelia when she was addressed, pulled out of an ocean of thoughts that she had been plunged into. it was certainly a strange atmosphere to be in. a brand new world, wrought with - well, her new sister had said it best - chaos. and yet, somehow, it felt much less stressful. a similar atmosphere of danger was settled over the people, but not in the same manner. the threat felt more abstract than that of man, of bombs, and that served as a bit of a comfort.
"chaos is what i know," she said, waving her hand absently. "at least there is community." she wasn't quite sure about pressing questions, but the presence of her briefcase underneath her bench was one that served as a reminder. "i need to unpack, i think. where would i do that?" once upon a time, she would have been strongly against unpacking such perceivably sensitive materials in the midst of strangers, but it appeared that that form of threat had rescinded greatly. there were weapons littered about the place like ornamental decorations - a few more didn't seem that much of a threat.

"It's ok, I wasn't injured." thanks to Caleb. She kept the last part to herself considering she suspected he was mad at her for being involved with Caleb.
"If you want we could spar sometime and you can test the waters with your powers." she offered as a sort of olive branch to makeup for the mishap.
She waved off his offer of allowing her to shock him, as inticing as the payback sounded she didn't want to give into violent thoughts.
"I bet August will chew you up a new one. You better pray to the gods." she joked with a smile.
"I do have a question for you, were you aiming for me? And why?" she asked as she awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck.
Aydan Tags: Ophelia, Celeste, and Mira Location: Dining Pavilion
Aydan finally made his way to the table and took his seat next to Ophelia and took a sip of his cocoa. The warm liquid made its way down his throat, burning his tongue as he drank, and into his stomach. It made him feel a little better but he could still feel the sadness that was buried waiting to come out. Was he going to have another meltdown infront of these girls, no way.
"You need to go to your cabin." Aydan said simply finally looking to the girl with a sheepish smile. He felt a ping of guilt for not speaking to her too much.

Bay nodded hesitantly as he asked if she was really alright. She would probably be fine. Her tree was just a little cold... It would be fine. At the mention of the harpies, Bay scoffed, an unusual thing for her. In Bay's and opinion and most of the other nature spirits, Aello, Celaeno, and Ocypete were really just annoyances. They just loved to screech at campers, clean dishes with lava, tidy up cabins, and were just overall dull. They weren't too smart and were a sort of disgrace to harpy-kind. At least they were helpful. She thought it was kind of Niji to think of them, though. "Actually, that would probably be nice. Their feathers aren't very warming. That's nice of you to think of them." Usually campers weren't as thoughtful to the non-humans who lived here. Well, Niji was new. Bay Laurel felt another shiver go down her spine as another part of her tree started to freeze. She shivered and fingered the Bay Laurel Wreath on her head.

"Bay! You are not alright!" Niji exclaimed in worry.
They moved to grab her arm, but thought better of it with their emotions surging. The last thing he wanted was to hurt her.
"Bay please take a blanket, or I could get you straw." Niji whimpered with tears welling up in his eyes.
"You'll die if not. And I can't touch you and I don't know what to do. And- and" Niji trailed off their lip quivering.
"Please let me help." He whispered.
