Fernstar faltered little as she eased along a rotting log stretched across a shallow creek bed. The peat moss that grew along the bark was soft underpaw, a sheen of morning dew collected in droplets along its surface. Upon reaching the edge, the she-cat leapt the remainder of the gap over the creek to the bank on its opposite side. Her paws landed with a crunch among the leaflitter. It was leaf-fall, and much of the trees were bare. Their branches void of leaves, they swayed little in the cool breeze. The forest floor had been layered with yet another coating of a seasons’ leaves. The molly’s own pale coat blended well with the bark of the trees and colorful array of leaves littered on the ground. The air even smelled of cold, fresh and crisp on the tongue. Fernstar lifted her nose to taste it, even just for a moment. Though leaf-fall did bring with it its warnings of leafbare, it was a beautiful season to enjoy, at least in the moment.
However, a sudden snap whipped the she-cat out of thought. Standing motionless in her place, her eyes drifted across the landscape as she scoped for whatever had caused the sound. Though it could've easily been a twig falling to the ground, Fernstar never did like to take her chances. And sure enough, stomping ahead through the leaves was a dark-pelted cat. Their yellow eyes focused in the other direction, the she-cat took her opportunity to position herself behind a tree and avoid their gaze. They weren't being too quiet, she noted. They padded casually across the forest floor with their tail raised high behind them, curiosity shining in their gaze. Whatever Fernstar may worry of when encountering a stranger, she didn't feel for this particular cat. They seemed unbothered, nonthreatening. A little hello wouldn't cause them too much trouble, would it? After releasing a sigh beneath her breath, the she-cat stepped aside from the wide tree-trunk and revealed herself from hiding. At first, the cat was completely oblivious to her presence──their gaze turned in the opposite direction, focused on the finches as they flitted from branch to branch. Finally, once they did notice, they halted in their tracks, staring directly into the leader's bright blue gaze. A bit surprised, caught horribly off-guard, the cat pulled their paw back to straighten their posture. "Hey there..." They called out, still a bit flustered.
"Hello." Fernstar chuckled. She couldn't help herself, seeing the other hesitate on how to react to her presence. "Enjoying the scenery?" Catching the she-cat's lack of hostility, the cat appeared to relax almost instantly. Her posture fixing to sit among the leaves, she chuckled lightly. "Definitely. Always loved the forest in leaf-fall." Pausing a moment or so, she brushed the leaves with her black tail and tilted her head to the side. "I'm Minksnap. Sorry if I've... intruded or anything." Shaking her head with a light smile, Fernstar met her eyes reassuringly. "Don't worry, you're alright." She dipped her head before continuing. "My name's Fernstar, and you're welcome to enjoy the view."
Minksnap opened her mouth to respond, though hesitated for a moment, furrowing her brows in thought. "Fernstar... huh. You're a leader?" The she-cat instantly seemed to regret having said anything, drawing back to shake her head in embarrassment. "Uh- oh, sorry, I mean, I haven't heard of a Clan being in these parts." Fernstar nodded, smiling again in reassurance. It sure seemed the she-cat needed it, just to ensure that she wasn't bothered by her inquiries at all. "Don't worry, you wouldn't be the only one." She chuckled lightly. "My Clan is brand new; it's just me and an empty camp." Minksnap nodded in curiosity, once more calmed by the leader's friendly demeanor.
"Would you like to continue some sight-seeing? I wouldn't be bothered at all to give you a tour." Fernstar began, shrugging her shoulders lightly. "Show ya' around and all." Minksnap began to laugh softly, earning a slightly confused smile from the leader. As she rose to her paws, her tail swayed behind her pleasantly. "That's the most casual way I've ever been asked to join someone's Clan." She continued with a chuckle. "But of course Fernstar, I'd love to." The pair continued on side-by-side under the overcast leaf-fall sky, taking-in the sights and sounds the forest had to offer.
