Emerson "Emmie" Tags: Caleb Location: arena

"No problem, I don't mind being a guinea pig as long as it doesn't cause any permanent damage. " Emmie said giving him a thumbs up. She gladly took his hand and jumped to her feet. She was glad he said they could call it a draw, she'd have to spar him again to secure a win. And here i thought we were just starting to have fun." she said with a fake pout. She was taking her ponytail out and letting her red locks down she had a sense something was heading her way. Before she could react and duck Caleb was already lunging to catch it. She blushed as she realized she could have been toast if the shield had actually hit her. "Nice catch Captain America." she quipped, her face still a shade of bright pink. She peered at his hand "You ok?" she asked a bit worried of him being injured by something she felt was partly her fault.

Aydan Tags: Ophelia, Celeste, and Mira Location: Dining Pavilion

Aydan had been too submerged in his thoughts to notice that Ophelia had gotten up to get food. He was only brought back to reality when he felt her sit back down. He looked at her choice of breakfast and frowned. He gently placed a hand on her back as to comfort her and him at the same time. He didn't really know Alex for long but he couldn't help the gut wrenching feeling he had in the pit of his stomach. He looked to Mirabelle as she got up and listened to her solemn pre goodbye. "You'll be back, you have too much here to fight for to not make it back." he said trying to give her his version of a pep talk. "In the words of Uncle Ben, with great power comes great responsibility.... wait... that doesn't work much here.." he said rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand as his face turned pink with embarrassment. "What I'm trying to say is kick butt and make it back safely."he tried again hoping what he was saying would help in anyway.

Ash Tags: Sa'd Location: Dining Pavilion

"He is very busy." Ash said. He almost burst out laughing when Set told him it was actual mythical creatures. "Maybe I could help take care of this awful sounding cousin on day." Ash grinned mischievously. He could put the cousin to sleep and manipulate his dreams so he had a nightmare about the griffins turning on him or something. It'd be excellent. He drummed his fingers on the table gleefully, he'd of course have to make it back from this quest for that to happen. He stopped drumming and frowned at the dreadful thought.

Draco waited patiently by a tree waiting for Chiron's return with the Lieutenant Laika. He hummed quietly unsure of what to do.

Sa'd shrugged.
"We don't have to worry about him because my uncle got wind of how he's treating the horses and Griffins and is putting the farm in my name. I just have to learn how to be a host before I get it."

"You act as if it's normal."
Set hummed.

"It's not normal, but my uncle talked about giving it to me for years, so it's a bit of common knowlege."
Sa'd explained.

"Not everyday it happens though."

Skylar Kakitid, 16 years old, Female, Daughter of Hecate, 7 year camper, Location: Dining Pavilion, Tags: Hank - -> Open, Mentions: None

At Hank's words, Skylar was taken aback. She flinched back at the sudden questioning. He questioned whether she wasn't going to be here for her siblings and Skylar felt like her heart fell into her shoes. "Well, um, I don't know." But he was gone. Hank turned and walked over to the brazer with a half-hearted apology. Skylar was shocked, why was he so upset about the quest? She turned away and walked towards the edge of the Pavilion, gazing out into the snow. Hank had a point, though. Would she be abandoning her siblings when they needed her most? Would it be enough to try to get this over with quickly for them? She didn't think she was doing this for herself, she just wanted this dumb snow done with! And after the weakness in the forest maybe she needed to prove herself? Maybe she did have a motive. Maybe it would be better for someone else to go. Another one of her powerful siblings Skylar resolved to go to the meeting, share what knowledge she had, then try to not get involved too much in this quest. They probably wouldn't need her anyway.

Bay Laurel, Immortal, Female, Drayd, Location: Dining Pavilion --> Apollo Cabin, Tags: Niji, Mentions: None

Bay nodded, slightly embarrassed. "Oh! Um yes!" She shuffled around the Cabin and grabbed a few plates of pancakes and eggs. Then she rushed back over. "Here." She set the plates down a d grabbed a refilling goblet. She loved these things, all someone had to do was think about what drink they wanted and it was there. Plus, it never was empty. "Are you feeling alright this morning? Do you need some healing or ambrosia?" She fingered her dress as she looked at the boy.

Hu almost choked on a bite of skittle-popcorn. Her sister was gone with a small pop, and a very disgruntled goldfish was swimming about in the tank, screwing up the Hamilton practices.

Fortunately, Hu recovered her senses rather quickly. "So it seems you are a goldfish. Riiiiiiiiight." Then she stared at her sister, and burst out laughing. "I-I I'm sorry, it's just so ridiculous and hilarious I can't help it. Okay, okay, back to getting you out of there. Uhh, how should I start? Can you try to get out of James Madifish? Maybe uhhh concentrate? Sorry, that's so vague." Hu leaned over the tank, trying to shoo the other members of the ensemble away from Caspia.

"You know what? We're taking you to Chiron. He should know what to do, I hope? So if you don't mind I'll just..." She grabbed a plastic bag, and scooped up Caspia in it. Hu glanced at her sister in the amusement park-style bag, then laughed again.

As she stepped out, Hu realized the water, which was warm from the tank, was starting to freeze in the cold. "Fudge. You're in a goldfish body, in a carnival baggie, being held by a sister. Might as well.." Hu slipped back inside her cabin, and grabbed a miniature waterproof winter hat with a pompom on top, from a play Hu and Satchi had tried to train the fish in. She dropped it into the baggie and pushed the water so the hat was near Caspia. "Come on, wear it. It'll look cute, I promise." She laughed, and continued trudging towards cabin 2, where she saw Chiron heading towards them.

Some other campers were leaning over with interest, and Hu flashed them a dashing smile. "Look everyone, this is my sister. Isn't she great?" Hu headed for where Chiron was standing.

"Soooooo. Chiron, I have my sister here. Can't see her? She's that little goldfish wearing the tuque. Right here, in this baggie. Anyways, can you help? I'm kind of out of ideas."

Laika padded away after Zahra followed Chiron to the Hera cabin. Leaping over a cabin table, she landed with a light thud at the edge of the pavilion, in the snow. A spray of ice and snow splattered her paws and shoulder. Wincing, Laika headed for Cabin 8. Turning into her human form, she walked to her office at the back. Glancing at the badges and black and white photographs on the walls, she started going through the papers and notes she'd taken about the previous week's irregular activity. Laika missed the typewriter font and simple directness of telegrams, but this would have to do for now.

She pored over the papers. The magicians were facing attacks in all Nome's, her fellow Romans couldn't be contacted, and she could feel a disturbance in the realms of Death. There was something, much larger than anyone expected, that was menacing the entire world. But Laika was at loss for a plan of attack.

Spiffy hopped onto Laika's desk with the makeshift stairs of boxes, and started munching on a spare carrot lying about. "So, great Spiffy, come to help me with this, have you? Let's see what we can do with this, just don't get orange stains on the papers please." A small orange bit of juice promptly dripped onto Laika's notepad. Smiling slightly, Laika scratched Spiffy on the head and turned back to her work.

All sense of humor left Laika as, suddenly, a pang of death flooded her senses. It was distant, but such a large number of casualties would never pass unnoticed. 37 dead, 50 wounded. Toronto, Canada. They aren't passing through the Underworld, so I'd assume these are magicians. She'd been used to the mainland of Europe being the battleground, the main front, and not Canada. But it dawned on her that the entire world was under attack. Even a peaceful country wasn't left out.

Perhaps this could, no, did, connect with the attack on Chicago just last night. The deaths were rather irregular, to say the least, and Laika started to find a link between the two events. A new player had entered the field. Sure, it was rather reckless and chaos-happy, but it was dangerous nonetheless.

Jack "Reese" Dawson | 17 | Hades/Cabin 13 | Location: woods | tags: Auggie, (Caleb and Emmie /same building)

Crap, she has a head injury! Reese thought, looking over his sister worriedly as she burst into a fit of laughter. He squinted, trying to recall the indicators of head trauma and see if they lined up. Disorientation? Personality shifts? WHY CAN'T I REMEMBER? 'A concussion is a bruise on your brain' - yeah, thanks for nothing, seventh grade science class!

Someone was calling out to him, and his face flushed when he realized what he'd nearly done. I barely know either of them... Why did I pull that damn stunt? "Uhhh, yeah, definitely," He called back, trying to process the chaos around him. He should offer to help with any possibly injuries, but he had a more urgent problem: Auggie. The girl had gotten up, and still wanted to fight, even with her likely bruised brain. Always on the up and up. He thought grimly, hoping down to be on this side of the large rock and earth barrier with her.

He felt he had done enough geokinesis for one day, so now it was time to work on another weakness, his swordmanship. He readied himself, but this time he wasn't for letting her take the initiative. He charged forward, as if trying to skirt the rock and get back around it for cover, but thrust his blade toward her chest at the last second, throwing all he had into the shot and hoping he didn't look ridiculous. Afterall, we all want our last moments to capture our best selves... And the aesthetically pleasing guy would probably not find him as cool if his death was anything less.

Ophelia Rogers | 16 | She/her | Aphrodite/Cabin 10 | Location: Dining pavilion | tags: Aydan, Mira, Celeste |

Ophelia caught the tail end of Mira's spiel, and her heart dropped. No, not happening. This is Mira, she'll take care of herself. She stood tall and strode back to their table, placing her bowl down and sliding into her spot next to the Khione kid. She tensed a little when Aydan threw a hand over her shoulder, but seemed more confused by the gesture than anything. Friends do this...right? She thought, her mind wandering to snippets of tv shows and young kids at other tables. She glanced at him quizzically, her eyes widening in alarm as he blattered on. There's no nice way to say this, but it's not helping! She considered smacking him at the Uncle Ben comment, but settled for shrugging out from under his arm.

"What he means is that we know you'll do great, and I'll be ready to hand back the reins when my sanest sister gets back. " She said with a smile, the words overtaking her until she almost believed them herself. Besides, I'd be lost without you, and we don't want that, do we? She set about eating her breakfast, determined to act as if the morning was just as normal as any other. She went after he porridge as if on the attack, too engrossed in tamping down her own thoughts to more manageable levels too notice what others were eating.

Others will be updated later

Agatha "Aggy" Clemson | 15 | She/her | Unknown (Ares)/Cabin 11| Location: Dining Pavilion | tags: Cass, Juliet

Aggy looked at Juliet, a little confused at her sudden outburst. Then she nodded toward Cass, "She said I could go!" She said, her voice sing-song. This seemed about as good a time as any to pull the authority card. If something is taboo, it's always more fun! "Campers died here, so I don't think my odds will be too much worse going." She said, semi-solemn, for once. That was, until she reached a hand down to proudly tap her cutlass. "Besides, it'll be fun to test out Flora on some real villains!" Feeling that she'd successfully won the argument, Aggy stuffed another syrupy glob into her mouth, and began chewing ravenously. Whatever today brings, pancakes come first!

Henry "Hank" Walker | 17 | He/him | Apollo/Cabin 7 Head Counselor | Location: Dining Pavilion | tags: Izzy, Skylar, Lucy

Hank eyed Skylar. Could she handle it? That was a pretty big assumption on her part. Hank knew from experience that being overconfident had a way of coming back to bite you in the butt. Death hurt, even after you'd seen enough to last a lifetime. He let it slide, and settled for answering her question. "I don't know what's going to happen, but with all this," He waved a hand at the snow covered landscape. "Stakes are gonna be higher than usual." He narrowed his eyes, finally catching on to something about her demeanor. "You ain't really thinking about going? Are you? There's bound to be fatalities, and don't you want to be here for your siblings? You're head counselor, after all!" Worry crept into his voice, but there was more to it than that. Mira was going too. Does staying behind make me a coward? I want to be here for my siblings, but will some kid, some poor summer camper with a family waiting on them, die in my place? Can I deal with that if they do?

He shook his head roughly, offering her a grim smile. "I'm sorry Sky, guess I'm still a little shaken after yesterday." He stood up, shoving away from the table under the guise of taking his plate to a brazer, but it was far too abrupt to just be about that. Before he could blink, he was being called to by a familiar voice. He turned, and just like that, he was wrapped in a hug. Ah, Lucy. He smiled, for real this time, and hugged her back.

She pulled back and he looked over her, letting out a sigh of relief when she looked just as energetic and whole as he'd left her at the end of the last summer. But her question dragged him back down. "Not so loud, I don't think anyone wants to recount yesterday more than necessary," He said softly, nodding gently toward their siblings, many of whom were still gathered around the table. "Big House couldn't handle the snow. We lost seventeen, five of ours. You remember Brad, Jessica, Sabrina? The others were two younger kids, full sisters, Carmen and Mary." Twins, arrived early last fall. He winced, not eager to finish out the recap. "There was also a quest mentioned, ice an' snow involved." He gave her a hard look. "In light of recent events, I request that you stay here and assist with shrouds." His tone said that it was more than a suggestion, but he couldn't help it. He didn't know if he could deal with losing another cabinmate so soon.

[] Augusta Reynolds|17|she/her|Hades|Head counsellor|arena|tags:Reese

Auggie watched the exchange between Caleb and her half brother with an interested yet unamused countenance. Had Reese actually intended to hit the girl? And was that a very poorly thought out attempt at getting her attention, or was his flustered expression now because of the Aphrodite wannabe in a dress shirt? She rolled her eyes at the boys nervous response, deciding to save that as ammunition to tease him later.

He clambered over the rock he had summoned—and nearly killed her with—and came towards her. Her muscles tensed as she prepared to make a move, naturally assuming he wouldn’t take the first swing. He’d been quite docile and cowardly before, and now he seemed to be more stunned by his own powers and fear of how she’d retaliate. She didn’t expect him to come at her, but he surprised her, charging ahead and thrusting his blade towards her chest.

The move caught her slightly off guard, but she reacted quickly, swinging her own blade in an easy movement and knocking his aside. She hoped her surprise wouldn’t show on her face, and she glowered even more than usual in an attempt to hide it. “Careful, Jack,” she taunted, the way she said his name making it clear that she was not being sincere. She nodded towards the rock protruding from the arena floor behind him. “Iceberg didn’t go too well for you last time, did it?”

The boy seemed to be easily rattled by her intimidating airs, if she could get under his skin with a few sharp comments she’d be at an advantage—one that seemed to be dwindling as the pain in her arm and head grew. She lunged forward, ignoring the pounding in her skull. She didn’t go for Reese this time, she went for his blade, locking it with hers and with a swift twist and flick of her wrist, attempted to disarm him. Her vision blurred slightly, whether from the blood loss or the impact her head had made with the hard ground, it wasn’t a good sign.

[]Caleb Thomas|18|he/him|Athena|Arena|Tags:Emmie

Caleb couldn’t help the grin that spread across his face at the nickname, looking back at the girl with raised eyebrows. “Captain America? I like that, much better than some of the other names I’ve been called. Let’s keep that one.” He nodded with satisfaction, still beaming and evidently enjoying the unnecessary boost to his ego.

He nodded to Reese when the other boy responded, clearly quite distracted by the fight he was currently engaged in. Obviously he hadn’t intended to throw the shield so hard—or at Emmie’s head for that matter—he’d put it down to a preoccupied mind and overzealous reaction

“Me? Fine and dandy as always. Don’t you worry your little head about me,” he said, turning his attention back to the girl next to him with a playful wink. In a quick movement, he turned his dagger back into a silver earring, hooking it back into his ear with practiced ease. “That was a good fight, but next time I’ll know what to expect. There’ll be no defeating Captain America then.” He grinned, clearly still enjoying the nickname a little too much.

“I wanted to catch that meeting about the quest, I should probably get going.” He wasn’t planning on going on the quest, the thought had never even crossed his mind, but he was curious about it, and he figured nobody would protest to him sitting in on their little meeting. If they did he could just say he wanted to go, then back out at the last second—say he wasn’t feeling well or something. It was snowing, people get sick when it’s cold, right? That, or he could lie about having prophetic dreams, but he didn’t think it would come to that.

“I take it you wont be attending?” he asked Emmie. She’d said that she hadn’t had any dreams, and hadn’t seemed particularly interested in going on the quest when he’d brought it up before. He couldn’t say he blamed her, going up against a snow goddess was a daunting idea, though he did still want to find out what exactly the questers planned to do.

if only i could keep you in my pocket
to give me some diagnosis of why i'm so hollow
please give me instructions, i promise i'll follow
i tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
but doesn't that mean that the tour's gonna sell, though?
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted
but after an hour, it sounds like complaining
wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever?
you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better?
the universe works in mysterious ways
but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me
doctor, should i be good, should i be good this year?

||Mirabelle Everhart|17|She/Her|Aphrodite|Head Counselor|Location: Dining Pavilion|Tags: Celeste, Ophelia, Aydan|

"C'est dommage," Mirabelle sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I would have liked to get to know you better. I hope I will get that chance." She smiled that same sad smile as she met Celeste's eyes, the wistful nature of her words perfectly genuine. "Thank you again." A hand reached up to rub at the moonstone pendant tucked into the folds of her scarf. She hoped she wouldn't have to use the garrote, and yet, she had a sinking suspicion that it just might save her life.
When Aydan spoke up, Mirabelle turned her blue-grey gaze on him. She didn't know who this 'Uncle Ben' was, but the quote reminded her of something she had come across when reading about the French revolution. Appropriate, given the circumstances. 'You have too much here to fight for to not make it back.' The words rang out in her head, echoing like a grim reminder. He was right, she realised. But that was also why she might not make it back as well. She knew herself pretty well - if it came down to sacrificing her own life to protect those she loved, she wouldn't be returning. "Thanks, Aydan," she replied sincerely. "I'll try to do just that." The subtle touch between him and Ophelia was not lost on her, and she found herself wondering if more had developed between them than just a friendship. Surely, if she made it back to camp, she would have time to figure it out. "Just... take care." Her eyes flickered to Ophelia, indicating what she left unspoken. Take care of her.
Her heart panged as Ophelia added on to Aydan's attempt at a pep talk. Sanest. I don't know about that. A breif silence settled like a blanket across them as she tried to think of something to say. For once, she was having a hard time finding the right words. "I... thank you," she finally spoke. "I know you'll do great as interim head counselor." The words sang of authenticity, though the dull ache of sadness lingered beneath. "If you need anything at all, I'm just an iris message away." Gods, Mirabelle almost wanted to set her trepidation concerning physical contact aside and hug her sister. But she wasn't sure how well that would go over, given the public venue and the general apprehensive mood. Instead, she met her startlingly blue eyes, the simple glance carrying much more emotion and care than words ever could.

||Juliet Pratten|16|She/Her|Hermes|Location: Dining Pavilion|Tags: Cass, Aggy|

Juliet was about to whip up a snarky retort, but she quickly thought the better of it. "Fair point." She shrugged, causing her ponytail to bounce ever so slightly. "Look. If you go, just try not to get yourself killed, okay? I don't want to have to go to another funeral." She cracked a smirk to indicate that she was joking, though in truth there was some honesty to the statement. When she registered the last part of Aggy's comment, Juliet couldn't help but laugh. "Wait... Flora? You named your weapon Flora?" she snorted. "Why am I not surprised?"

||Zahra Al-Amin|217/Looks 32|She/They|Magician; Eye of Sekhmet|Location: Cabins Area|Tags: Jay|

"You are so young to be hosting such a god," Zahra mused aloud. "I do hope you know what you are doing." The last thing she wanted was to see someone else burn up from hosting a god long-term. She'd regrettably seen it before, and it never got any easier. Especially with one so young. Zahra held out a hand for the jackal to sniff, but made no move to introduce herself to the creature otherwise. Felines were her specialty, after all. Though she wished she could continue the small talk, it was time to get down to business. "Why are you not in the Duat? Do you have any idea of the war raging on? We need all gods present to battle the Ogdoad, or the world as we know it will be destroyed." Her voice was calm and crisp, but frustration was starting to bubble forth. She could feel Sekhmet's power simmering in her blood, almost begging to be used. No, she told herself - and most definitely her deity - sternly. We must conserve for the real battle. Taking it out on a teenager is not what we came here for. The anger quickly receded, but left the exasperation behind.

after he ate, orin didn't see much more reason to hang around in the hall. his mind wandered to his mother, his sister - they should have landed by now. it may have been against the rules to check his phone, but something in him told him that their greatest threat was certainly not the potential monsters that could be drawn by a brief text message. it was a foolish thing to think, incredibly blindsided, but one he thought nevertheless.
it was voices that they were attracted to, anyway. that was how he reasoned with it. just a few texts. just to make sure.

he slipped out, veered toward his cabin, glad to find that any campers that he passed seemed to avoid conversation. was that a result of his 'getting-something-done' face, or the impact of the bruise that stood out brutally on his otherwise rather clear face? whatever it was, it was useful.
he got inside, rootled around in his suitcase, and from a zipped-up side pocket retrieved his emergency phone. it took a while to turn on - he hadn't for a while, but he was thankful to find that it was still charged up.

as soon as it connected to a network, fifteen missed calls and a flurry of texts from his sister came through. he skipped through most of those. they were, in essence, the same vyes for his attention before he received the iris message, requesting he call her back. he scrolled up, past a notification that he barely read, and found the communications from the morning.
    4h - worst gorman:

    have you seen the news?

confused, he checked - scrolled through the sky news page until he found what she was talking about.

"oh, jesus," orin whispered, standing up very quickly. "uh - oh, god." the fast movement sent a wave of nausea to his head. he had to tell someone. but mr. d would probably rip him to shreds for daring to use a phone on camp premises, and chiron seemed to have his hands full. there was no-one that he could tell. still, he walked out of his cabin, looking wildly around for a figure that he could show the news to. it was important. it felt important. it felt bad.
his eyes fell on cabin eight, the light inside sifting through curtains, signifying a presence.

he didn't really think about what he was doing until he was doing it - knocking on the door desperately, trying to push out words through the adrenaline-fuelled wheezing. "is laika in there? laika, i need - i don't know who to - please. please, i need to show you something. i need your help."

Emerson "Emmie" Tags: Caleb Location: arena

Emerson's blush disappeared as soon as she realized the nickname went straight to the boys head. She rolled her eyes "Watch it or I'll call you owl boy instead. Captian America is only used when you do something remarkable. " she said with a small chuckle.

She looked at the boy who had nearly decapitated her if it wasn't for Caleb. She tried to be understanding and not mad at the boy but she couldn't help the sourness that grew in the pit of her stomach. Without realizing it her hands were balled into fists giving off small sparks. What did she do to warrant him throwing the shield at her.

Her fists relaxed when Caleb said he was fine, she looked at him in time to see him wink at her. She blushed and turned away praying to the gods he didn't catch it."Yeah ok owl boy, I still have more tricks remember? You didn't see everything I can do just now." she said, back still turned to him, she threw up a hand and waved it in a dismissing manner as if it would shut down his ego.

"No, I'm not much a fan of the cold, I think I'll hold myself up in here waiting for someone else who's none the wiser to spar with me." she said with a chuckle as she went to grab her bow and quiver. "Catch ya later Caleb for a rematch and for you to tell me more about the quest." she said slinging the bow and quiver over her shoulder before finally turning to look at him and offering him a smile and small wave before he left.

Aydan Tags: Ophelia, Celeste, and Mira Location: Dining Pavilion

Aydan felt Ophelia tense at his touch and he wondered if he should remove his hand but before he could she had already shrugged it off. He tried not to overthink it and payed full attention to Mirabelle. He nodded as Mira thanked him hoping what he said didn't make her feel worse, hopefully she had listened to what Ophelia said to her more than what he said.

Though he wasn't the best in social situations , and everything attached to it, he understood the unspoken words Mirabelle had for him with just her gaze. "I will" he promised more on behalf of Ophelia than himself. Aydan went back to looked at his empty bowl feeling the weight of the situation increasing with every passing minute.

It just didn't add up. Nothing did, frankly. Camp Jupiter was out of contact, magicians were 'dealing with their own problems', some random snowstorm appeared over Long Island Sound, and two attacks had already taken many lives. Nothing was connecting.

Laika was shook out of her pondering when someone knocked on the door. She started, raising her pistol to the door, finger on the trigger. Then she heard the unmistakable voice and slight accent of Orin Gorman, head counselor extraordinaire. Lowering the weapon, Laika set it back on her desk. "Come in. I assume this is a matter of the attacks on Chicago and the hundredth Nome?"

She nodded curtly at the demigod in the doorway. "Take a seat, and let's hear what is the matter." Laika's manner was dead serious. To be honest, she was exhausted and exhasperated. The situation messy, and she assumed this was only the start of the chaos that would ensue.

In the war, the enemy was clear. German u-boats, Italian ships, Japanese bombers. It was a clear matter of outmaneuvering and deceiving the enemy, and the arsenal of weapons was as obvious as a badly hidden bomb amongst a pile of beachballs. This time, however, there was no enemy she knew of, and the weapons, from what they'd encountered so far, were just as unpredictable.
