        “I value people on what they’re worth” Laika hissed. “Listen, I fought and I killed and I bled and for a dozen times I ended up half dead to prove myself to everyone else. As a daughter of Pluto, I was supposed to be shunned. Yet I climbed my way to the top. Same in the navy; being a woman was the most evil sin you could commit. But I still ended up admiral, didn’t I? I value people on what they’ve done, what they’ve contributed. The facts stand behind them, it’s just a matter if they’ve got any. I don’t need you to say all you’ve done, just hand me a couple medals, perhaps a Declaration of Independence, and I’ll know what you’re worth.

        So you see, I value myself higher than mortals not because I am immortal, but because it’s just the facts. Of course I value many other ‘mere mortals’ higher than myself, and they’re not even demigods. Take Churchill, or Roosevelt, or even Diefenbaker. Those men were worth more than me.”

        Then, she heard Chiron’s announcements begin. She was listening closely, while also gazing at the two campers in front of her. There was nothing of major importance, just introductions and formalities.

Henry "Hank" Walker | 17 | He/him | Apollo/Cabin 7 Head Counselor | Location: outside Cabin 7 | tags: Niji, Laika, ---> Apollo NPC (Dante)

The world around him was speeding up, Hank reached to keep Niji's hand off the hunter, but Niji was moving too fast. His eyes widened at the hunter's retort, having expected contempt from her, but not her stooping down to the level of Niji's attacks. This time, he grabbed Loverboy's reins to steady the horse and touched Niji's shoulder with a hand. "That's enough. " He said firmly, turning to shoot a chiding glance to Laika. "My good lady, I appreciate your suggestion, but please restrain yourself from riling up the injured, it does them no good." He said, handing her back the reins. He didn't add that for a horse unfamiliar with battle, the sight of any flame would cause them to spook. Jumpy things, horses.

"I'm going to get Dante," He told them, lowering his voice to eye Chiron. Aww shoot, I'll have to miss this. He thought, before turning back to the mounted hunter. "Laika, can you listen and give me a recap when I get back?" He said, more of an order than a question.
He turned to Niji. "Ji-Ji, just-" He cut himself off when he saw Niji's face. His voice softened, along with his features. "Hold steady, okay? I'll get someone out here, and they'll fix you right up, okay?" He said, turning to leave before he was struck by a thought. "Hold onto your mare, I'll be right back. If you're too cold, we'll get ya back to the stables." He said, turning and heading inside. Hopefully they won't kill eachother before I get back.

He rushed in and grabbed the first free healer he saw. Dante, yes, great. "I need you outside. Now. Camper's a mess, I can grab some ambrosia and bandages, for you," He said in a rush. Dante just nodded, looking more than a little exasperated, and set out, while Hank went about raiding the supplies.

Ophelia Rogers | 16 | She/her | Aphrodite/Cabin 10 | Location: Outside Cabin 10/campfire | tags: Aydan | mentions: Chiron, Draco

"Sh-sh-sorry," She muttered, doubling over in pain when the kid threw off her hands. She grabbed onto her knees for support, her nails biting into her skin, even through two layers. Chiron was...speaking?

She fought to hear his words over the blood pounding in her head. He was introducing...someone, but she couldn't see them. They drawled over their words in a thick accent, she couldn't make out what they-he?- was saying. My sister, my best friend, my love, my brother... They're all dead, and I don't know how to go on. She squeezed her eyes closed. Deep breathes...1,2,3...1,2,3...annnnddd up, come on! She let out a hard sigh and pulled herself up. She pressed her arms into her chest to hold herself up. She face Chiron, but the noise he and the other centaur were making was just sound to her and nothing more.

||Mirabelle Everhart|17|She/Her|Aphrodite|Head Counselor|Location: Outside Cabin 10/Campfire|Tags: Ophelia, Ayden|

By the time Mirabelle reached Ophelia and Ayden, Ophelia had straightened herself up. Still... the agony in her eyes was devastating.
In all of our years of training... nothing could have possibly prepared us for this. The thought sat like lead in her stomach. Someone’s brother. Someone’s daughter. Gods, her chest was so tight she could barely breathe. And those were just her emotions. She did her best to bottle up her own pain, that familiar eerie calm settling over her again. She always seemed to be steady in crisis situations, though she knew it would only come back up later, when everyone wasn't relying on her to be their rock.
She slowed her pace, drawing up beside her godly half-sister. Concern was written all over Mirabelle's face. Though hesitant, she reached out a hand and placed it on the other girl's back, bracing herself for any kind of violent reaction. She shot the boy Ophelia had been gripping - Ayden, she thought she'd heard someone say earlier that day? - an apologetic look before turning her attention back to her friend.
"It gets better. I promise, it does. It just... it takes a lot of work and practise to shut it all out." Even now, the overwhelming sorrows of everyone around her pushed at her emotional barriers. They were only amplified through Ophelia; repeating and feeding themselves back through like a tape on loop. It was all she could do to keep her walls intact, especially confronted with her own tumultuous feelings trying to breach through the surface. But people were counting on her. She was their bulwark, no matter how much it hurt. No matter how much she wanted to crumble under their pressure and pain; that searing, searing agony, she couldn’t let them down.
Mirabelle focused on that feeling of eerie calm, hoping beyond hope that her presence would do more good than harm in a situation like this. No doubt her other cabinmates were having similar experiences... but regardless of what Ophelia would have the world believe, Mirabelle knew that she was sensitive. She actually saw a lot of herself in the younger girl - perhaps that's why she felt so responsible for her.
She absently listened to Chiron and the new trainer - Draco, trusting her brain to process and store the information for later while she did her best to support her friend.

||Juliet Pratten|16|She/Her|Hermes|Location Campfire|Tags: Campfire Group, Wilhelm, Hank, Niji, Laika|

Juliet's quiet moping was quickly interrupted by an almost desperate sounding shout. Gods. Can't everyone just... shut up for a minute? she brooded. When the source of the noise called out again, Juliet moaned and rolled her eyes. Maybe I should help him out, even if just to get him to be quiet. I wanna mope in peace. She was careful not to jostle her healing shoulder as she jogged up to the guy, waving with her good arm to get his attention.
"Aiden? You mean the Athena cabin counselor?" she asked, her voice notably less cheery and casual than usual. Without waiting for a response, she continued. "Yeah. I can tell you he's not dead, at least. Thought I saw him up by the Big House - or, what's left of it, anyways. Oh - I think Chiron's going to say something." Indeed, from of the corner of her eye, she could see Chiron attempting to get everyone settled down. "Looks pretty silly waving his arms around like that."

Juliet rolled her eyes when a few campers started clapping after Draco's introduction, but reluctantly complied. She clapped lazily, though she had to admit - bringing on a new trainer was smart. Chiron couldn't train with every kid all the time, no matter how much he wanted to. There were just too many of them for that.
“Thank you Draco,” Chiron smiled kindly. “One more introduction to make before I get into announcements. Everyone, this is Admiral Laika Kreiger, Lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis. The Hunters are only here to help, so I expect that you all welcome them as cordially as we would under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, we will have to postpone our traditional friendly game of Capture the Flag against them, given the events that have transpired.”
Juliet snorted, rolling her eyes. Great, so bossypants is here to stay. Woohoo. Had she been in better spirits, she may have taken the news in a more jovial light. More people meant more prank victims, after all. But for once in her life, practical jokes were the last thing on her mind.
“Lieutenant, if you have anything to add before I move on?” Chiron turned to the spot next to him, only to find that the Hunter was nowhere in sight. “Lieutenant?”
Juliet couldn’t help but snicker as the centaur turned in a full circle to search for the missing woman. He stopped when he laid eyes upon the mountie, who seemed to be chastising Hank and that new kid, the one with the cupcake hair.
“Lieutenant!” this time, a request, spoken almost more like a command. “I do believe these children have had enough trauma for one night.” He put extra emphasis on the word 'children', almost as if trying to remind her of how young the demigods were in comparison.
Juliet had to strain her ears to hear the rest of the conversation, but it was just too juicy to miss. Man, I hope Chiron’ll tear that cat lady a new one, she brooded. The thought of some random lady - Lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis or not - coming in here and just ordering them around? It left a foul taste in her mouth, that was for sure.
Chiron poked his head into the Apollo cabin, offering Hank a sad smile. “Hank, if Niji here refused to be treated without Quicksilver, why didn’t you think of treating him outside in the first place?” he suggested gently. “I am pleased that the thought has occurred to you now. Remember to ask your cabinmates for advice if you are unsure of what to do; they're here to support you. Use that to your advantage.”
His face hardened into one of stoic professionalism when he turned back to speak with Laika. “Need I remind you that these demigods are not your soldiers?” He stated, still with that same gentle tone, but an edge of warning this time. “For the duration of your stay, I expect you to treat them with kindness and respect. Do I make myself clear?” He offered her a smile, but Juliet could tell the dude was just trying to keep it together at this point. “Now, if you would like to address the crowd, I’m certain you have their rapt attention.”

|||Chuck Oakes|He/Him|Satyr|Location: Campfire|Tags: Campfire group, Bay|

Chuck clapped for Draco's speech, though everything about what Chiron was saying felt... wrong, somehow. Too casual after everything that had happened. When Bay spoke, he turned his attention back to her, glad to have a reprieve from some sad attempt at normalcy.
"Oh, like, yeah, totally didn't think about the whole 'not trusting technology' thing," Chuck admitted, laughing nervously. He blinked when she asked if the satyrs needed any help with the snow, mentally remarking at how considerate she was. Especially given her own circumstances. "Uh, I think we've got everything covered," he replied. "Like, thanks for offering though. We're actually like, gonna stay in Pan's honourary cabin for now, or Mr. D's, if there's room. There's like, a ton of animals in Pan's." That being said, Pan's cabin was more of a... cabin-shaped tree, or a grove of them. Everything about it was alive. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, trying to think of something to say. His focus was pulled sharply to Chiron, however, when the centaur introduced the Lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis. But the Lieutenant was busy... arguing with campers? Man, that didn't sit right. Chuck felt a rare anger bubble up inside of him, especially seeing that the two involved were Hank and that one new kid who'd nearly passed out from dehydration earlier - Niji, Chuck recalled. And man, did Niji look in bad shape. Chiron seemed to have everything under control for the time being, though, so Chuck took a deep breath to try to cool off. With his enhanced hearing, he didn't even need to strain to hear every word they were saying.

Aydan Tags: Ophelia Location: Outside Cabin 10

Aydan rubbed the bridge of his nose as his headache grew. He looked at the two girls as he thought of a solution. He didn't like how this girl had grabbed him but she seemed to be in immense pain and he wasn't just going to let that be. He may not be a people person but that didn't mean he wasn't empathetic. He looked at the girl who gave him an apologetic look "I can uh, take her to the Khione cabin to get her away from everyone. I don't know whats happening to her but being by all these people probably doesn't help." he said as he picked up the girl bridal style. Hopefully no one would be angry by this. If the girl could answer questions he would've asked her if this was ok first but... she seemed to be in too much pain to be able to offer much. "Is that ok with you?" he asked the other girl with a sigh.

"Head counselor?" Wilhelm repeated, furrowing his brow. Did he become a head counselor while I was gone? The two of them had a lot of catching up to do, it seemed. "I'm glad to hear he ain't dead, at least." The Hephaestus camper breathed a small sigh of relief. He offered a hand to Juliet in greeting. "Will Wattson. Not sure if ya remember me, I've been away awhile. Don't really recall your face either, ma'am." He treated this like it were their first meeting since he doubted too many kids would remember him after such a long time. He didn't make a particularly huge splash in the pond, he didn't think. The mention of Chiron drew Will's attention. He recalled his trip to Camp Half-Blood with the Grey Sisters vividly (how could he forget it?) as well as what they'd said about the snow. "I've got somethin' Chiron'll want to hear." He didn't want to interrupt, however, so he chose to wait until the introductions were finished. In the meantime, he kept an eye out for Lucy; she'd probably jump at the chance to tell Chiron herself. A second trainer? Will took note of the centaur's aversion to the crowd; he could certainly relate. In fact, Will was one of the first campers to begin the applause after Draco's introduction, and he bumped Juliet to encourage her to do the same.

    ──── Lucy Blitzen

    𝚒 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚔 𝚘𝚏 𝚖𝚢𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚊𝚜 𝚊𝚗 𝚘𝚞𝚝𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚎𝚗𝚐𝚒𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚛
Lucy gratefully accepted the warmer items from Skylar, donning them as they drew closer to the campfire. Black or not, it still offered the same amount of warmth as one would expect, even melting the snow around it. It was a welcomed relief from the sudden winter befalling them. At the mention of Will as her "boyfriend," Lucy swooned. "Oh, I wish." She replied breathily, fanning herself for added effect. "But no, Will and I aren't a couple, and he's probably plenty warm even in this weather. Child of Hephaestus and all." She sighed dreamily. Lucy toned her swooning down a notch when Skylar started to speak, giving the Hecate counselor her full attention. "That's so awful," She whimpered, casting the no longer standing Big House a sideways glance. Eighteen dead... were any of them campers she knew? Or well, ones she was close with? She supposed she'd find out soon enough. "We don't know why the snow started, but Chiron probably has an idea. I think he's giving the announcement now, actually." Lucy stood on her tiptoes to see above the crowd as they approached, where Chiron was attempting to calm the chatter down. "I might have some idea," She whispered to Skylar. "Will and I took the Grey Sisters' taxi from the airport, and from how it sounded they were just as unhappy about the snow. Except they knew what was causing it."

    ──── Aiden Seaver
    】| Athena Head Counselor | 15 | Male | Big House ➡ Campfire | Tags: Campfire gang, Caleb
    𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎, 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚕 𝚒𝚝 𝚑𝚞𝚛𝚝𝚜
The campfire sounded like the most likely option. Aiden accepted Caleb's suggestion and quickly changed direction if only to flee the scene of the crime. Faces, faces, faces, none of them belonging to Cres or Kade. Slowly, Aiden found himself almost drowning in the sea of people. "Kaden!" he called, struggling to raise his voice over the clamor. After a few shouts, Aiden put the attempt to rest, falling in line with Caleb. The other camper responded well to the acceptance of the responsibility, but maybe that was because he didn't fully grasp the gravity of what was being asked of him. "There's a lot of responsibility that comes with that position. You know that, right?" Aiden's voice had already lost all of its playful quipping and sarcasm, but somehow it grew more serious. "It's not just a title. You've got some pretty big shoes to fill." He paused for Caleb's reply. "The Athena head counselor isn't necessarily the wisest or the strongest. It's more about who is the most cohesive individual. Who can hold our cabin together and get us through the hard times. I think that you're the best fit for that role." Aiden gave him a confident punch to the shoulder. "Don't prove me wrong, okay?"

The child of Athena shook his head. "All we have to go off of is prophetic dreams, so I've been asking around since lunch. Chiron is going to announce it tonight, so I'll find out all the other questers then. He rubbed the back of his neck, looking as though he was guilty. "I don't... have to go. I wasn't chosen by dreams or anything, but I feel like I need to. People have died and, you know I've never been on a quest. I kinda shirk the responsibility of one and stayed in the camp where it's safe. I can't do that forever, especially now when it's not safe. If there world's falling apart out there, I can't keep people safe in here." He slowed to a halt at the sound of Chiron's voice, briefly picking up the pace to reach the outskirts of the campfire group. "I think Chiron's starting, so if Kade and Cres didn't make it... we'll know." He fell quiet as Draco introduced himself. A second trainer... not a poor choice, but there were better days for first impressions. The Lieutenant of Artemis, however, he could tell he wouldn't like just by looking at her.

Draco waited patiently by a tree waiting for Chiron's return with the Lieutenant Laika. He hummed quietly unsure of what to do.

Niji looked up at Chiron his face growing bright red.
"S-sorry Mr. Chiron." Niji mumbled.
Niji nodded at Hank's words quieting himself down as he moved his arm from Hank's hand.
Niji nodded. "Ok-kay Hank."
They moved and grabbed Quicksilver's bridle putting his head on the side of her face. Niji breathed the mare's fur; rain and straw.
"'M not too cold." Niji told Hank.
Niji rubbed with Quickeilver's ears mumbling to himself in Arabic to calm himself down.

Ophelia Rogers | 16 | She/her | Aphrodite/Cabin 10 | Location: campfire--> Cabin 22 | tags: Aydan, Mirabelle

Ophelia flinched, then stiffened at a hand on her shoulder. Mira's voice followed, and she had to force herself to relax, to watch Mira's mouth and try to piece together the words she was clearly saying. It gets...better? Didn't she just tell me that I couldn't shut it off? She stared at Mira a moment, dumbfounded, "What, happened?" she asked, barely breaking a whisper. Then she was bodily lifted by another camper. Probably the kid I just grabbed.

Whatever, she had bigger problems. She shoved herself off of him, settling her feet back on the ground with a wince at the sudden motion. "I'll walk," She said through gritted teeth. She could still see, but she was panicking, the objects in front of her present, but not registering. She dug a hand into her gut, pulling herself steady at the feel of something solid, something real.

She tapped on the unidentified camper's arm. "Lead me..." She said. She squeezed her eyes closed, as if that would stop her headache. "Please?" She added, more a breath than a word. She didn't want to admit it, but the pain was incapacitating, the emotions too loud. Whatever cabin he's from, at least there won't be gossipy siblings, she told herself. She cautiously reached to grab onto his sleeve, but halted herself partway there, wary of his response.

Cass lifted her head from her hands once Chiron started talking listening as intently as she could despite her tiredness. She looked in the direction of the newcomer. He seemed nice albeit a bit nervous which she couldn't blame him for considering what a nightmare this day had been. He seemed to know what he was doing and she looked forward to training with him. Cass rested her chin in the palm of her hand as the announcements continued, she felt pretty neutral on the arrival of the hunters but was thankful for their help today. Cass, however, was not thankful for the lieutenant arguing with Hank and some new camper but Chiron had it handled so she remained quiet and bit back a few scathing comments since all that would do would increase the time it would take for her to go to bed.

Aydan simply nodded as the girl slipped out of his grip, he didn't expect much less. "Aydan, my names Aydan. Yeah I'll take you to my cabin, I'm going to grab your wrist if that's ok with you?" he said before gently grabbing hold of her wrist. He looked at the blonde "She can lay down a bit at my cabin, there shouldn't really be anyone there. If you want to come by later to pick her up be my guest." he said calmly before leading them to the Khione cabin. He figured it'd be empty since he didn't know if he has any siblings and if he did they'd be listening to the announcement. "What's your name?" he asked the girl without looking behind him. He would have to pay attention to the cabins to find Khione's since he hadn't been to it yet.

Caleb Thomas|19|he/him|Athena|Outside Big House/Campfire|Tags:Aiden

Caleb’s step quickened ever so slightly as they made their way towards the campfire; it was subconscious, his feet trying to get him away from the wreckage as quickly as possible. He didn’t look back. He didn’t want to see everything that had happened, didn’t want to feel the weight of it. He turned his attention back to Aiden as the younger boy spoke, raising an eyebrow at the implication that he would take the duties of head counsellor less than seriously. Of course, this was a fair assumption, Aiden had a right to be worried, but Caleb wasn’t about to tell him that.

“Yes, I know. I know,” He waved a hand flippantly, his attitude seeming to contradict the words he was saying. “I can be quite the responsible individual, believe it or not.” At the comment about filling shoes, he glanced down at Aiden’s feet. “What size are you? Can’t be that big.” He looked back at the head counsellors face, eyes sparkling with amusement. “I’m kidding, I understand.” He said, his tone more serious now, and sounding a lot more self-assured than he felt.

He nodded as Aiden continued, his expression more solemn than it had been moments ago. Responsibility. That was something that hadn’t gone well for him the last time. A flicker of doubt washed across his face, though he quickly got his emotions under control and nodded again. “I can do that,” He said finally. I wont let you down, was what he wanted to say, what might’ve instilled a little more confidence in him, but he couldn’t bring himself to actually speak the words.

He listened to the younger boy speak about the quest with great interest, actually managing to keep his mouth shut for a brief moment. He understood the feeling of needing to protect those around you, of needing to do anything you could to prove to yourself that you weren’t worthless. He understood that a little too well. He was going to respond, but they’d reached the campfire and it appeared the announcements had already started. He scanned the crowd, eyes flicking from face to face, seeing who was hurt and who had made it out unscathed. Many campers had been lost, and it appeared a good number of them were injured too. There were a lot of spaces where absent campers should’ve been, and plenty of those who were there seemed to be in bad shape. That wasn’t a good sign for the camp.

if only i could keep you in my pocket
to give me some diagnosis of why i'm so hollow
please give me instructions, i promise i'll follow
i tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
but doesn't that mean that the tour's gonna sell, though?
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted
but after an hour, it sounds like complaining
wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever?
you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better?
the universe works in mysterious ways
but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me
doctor, should i be good, should i be good this year?
