Jamie wasn’t entirely sure what he’d just witnessed, but he got the feeling Ophelia’s explosion wasn’t entirely to do with him. He had stayed rooted to the spot on the porch, unsure if he should leave or try to intercede, and had watched with dismay as Ophelia stormed off towards the cabin’s, clearly crying. He wanted to help her but he wasn’t sure how, and he didn’t think following her right now was such a good idea.
Lost in his thoughts and a little shaken up, he barely noticed when someone walked right into him. He stepped back in surprise. “Oh, uh...no worries,” He replied quickly, stepping towards the door of the Big House. “Were you coming in?” He asked, holding the door open for her. He hadn’t been paying attention to which direction the girl had come from, but he wanted to get inside and out of the cold as quickly as possible.
if only i could keep you in my pocket
to give me some diagnosis of why i'm so hollow
please give me instructions, i promise i'll follow
i tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
but doesn't that mean that the tour's gonna sell, though?
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted
but after an hour, it sounds like complaining
wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever?
you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better?
the universe works in mysterious ways
but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me
doctor, should i be good, should i be good this year?

mentioned: ophelia,
auggie (sort of)╚xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx╝ orin heard the words, but they flew over his head. they didn't matter. none of the petty arguments mattered. there was no winner, only losers - the two of them exiled to their favoured positions to deal with the aftershocks of the earthquake that had occurred outside of the big house, leaving ruin - only ruin.
he walked up the steps, now unlit and cloaked in darkness, and back through the door. there were people inside. a constant onslaught of voices. he shut his eyes but they kept speaking. tried to stop listening but they kept speaking. it felt as though he had been thrown off a pier, as though everyone had thus far been waiting for the moment that the crash rippled the water and sent tsunamis in its wake. a little butterfly effect. it was conjecture - he knew he wasn't that important. not enough for a natural disaster, anyway.
he followed the sound of silence into a room that was not bustling with people. it felt as though there was someone in there, watching, but for all he knew, it was his father casting a stony gaze, turning his head away in shame. he couldn't care less. maybe he couldn't care more.
orin sat down in a free chair without grace. the weight of his body falling onto it made the legs make a horrific scratching noise against the ground - one that he barely heard.
silence. for a moment. blistering.
he pulled his knees against his chest and rested his forehead atop them, effectively making himself as small as possible - and when he did, gentle heaves of breath racked his ribcage, sending the sound of muted sobs into the enclosed atmosphere around him. one arm ended up looped around his legs, his other hand gripping at the strands of hair on the crown of his skull and tugging at them with the rhythm of his breathing. a sight to behold - the undoing of orin gorman. he hoped that there was no-one beholding it.

──── Aiden Seaver
【✦】| Athena Head Counselor | 15 | Male | Medical Tent ➡ Dining Pavilion | Tags: Teilo
❝𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎, 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚕 𝚒𝚝 𝚑𝚞𝚛𝚝𝚜❞
He expected baggage, but this was a whole other level. He almost wished he'd just thrown out the entire suitcase and the man who packed; that being Thanatos. "Geez," he said finally. "And here I thought I had it bad." Arguably, he did. When it came to demigods and their stories on how they made their way to Camp Half-Blood, it was difficult to figure out whose story was the worst of all of them. A lot of it was based on perspective. The conversations were usually like trying to decide which serial killer was the worst out of all of them; they're all awful. Still, Aiden tended to feel more assaulted by topics that hit closer to home. "But… what I'm getting out of all this is that this prophecy has been up in the air for longer than we thought. How long ago was your friend having these dreams?" He hated to invade on such a sensitive topic, but he felt like things were starting to fall into place. "The name I mentioned before—Vivienne—she was a camper here. She and Audra got to camp less than a year after I did, together, so they were really close." He rubbed his nose, which was bright red from the wind. "I didn't know either of them very well, they were older than I was and from different cabins; I was already in the Athena cabin when they arrived, so we didn't even share the Hermes cabin for a little bit," Aiden explained. His tone softened as he continued.
"Vivienne… she took Audra's death hard. Harder than anyone else in camp, so much so that she vowed vengeance against it and left. I don't think anyone took it completely seriously, but," he gestured to the wintery air all around them. "She's a daughter of Khione, the goddess of ice and snow. This is definitely something along the lines of her abilities, but considering how much of New York is draped in snow, I'm thinking Khione has a hand in it too." He shrugged. "Why Khione would dedicate time and energy to attacking Camp Half-Blood is a mystery, so I need to know if there's more to it than that." He fixed Teilo with an intense gaze. "If your friend was having dreams like this five years ago, then this could be bigger than just Camp Half-Blood. Actually, it probably already is. We wouldn't have had the Oracle of Delphi show up if it wasn't."──── Nicholas Storm

❝𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚑𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚘 𝚜𝚊𝚝 𝚘𝚗 𝚒𝚝 𝚑𝚊𝚍 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚗𝚊𝚖𝚎 𝙳𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚑❞
Vivienne's moment of fear, nor her aversion to his gaze, were lost to Nicholas. It was a pretty common occurrence when he revealed his true nature. Though, he would commend her for taking it so well; her reaction was one of the more mild ones. He offered a chuckle at her thank you. "Why, you're very welcome! I'm sure you wonder why I'm wasting beats of this heart of mine in a place like this." He nodded to the rest of the cluttered bar, which wasn't any less packed than when she arrived. "To each their own, I suppose. Ope--" he ducked behind the counter as a glass flew over his head, smashing against the wall. Nicholas turned to it briefly before settling his gaze on the source of the ruckus. Two men, less than sober, were in the middle of an intense argument over the baseball game currently playing on the television. "Hey!" He snapped, raising his voice. The sensation of his aura filled the tightly packed space, and all grew quiet. Not even the crickets outside dared to break it. "I'm not having a fight in here tonight. Take it outside or drop it."
Normally, this would be the scene in the movie where the big tough guy laughs and turns his threats to the scrawny, bold hero to see if they had any bite to their bark, but Nick's presence was enough to make everyone tuck their heads. Was it the eyes? His mysterious signet ring, perhaps? Or even his occupation outside of Harper's? None of the townsfolk knew for sure; all they knew was it was better to let sleeping dogs lie. With the argument having ceased, Nicholas returned to his bar duties, and the lively mood of the establishment picked up, slowly but surely. He caught Vivienne just before she left out the door. "Here, before you go." He dropped something into her hand: a bone. It was thin and delicate, as though it belonged to a songbird. "It'll call those summons when you break it. And don't worry about loyalty; they know to answer to you and Khione." Nicholas offered her a two-fingered salute. "Be sure to say hello to Xaliphax before you go, and have a safe trip. Ciao." With that, Death was gone. Lost to the sea of chaos and social interaction.

Augusta Reynolds|17|she/her|Hades|Head counsellor|Big House|tags:Orin
Auggie had been lost in her own thoughts, doing her best to stay quiet so she wouldn’t be disturbed in her place away from the others. She just needed a minute to breath, just one minute where she didn’t have to deal with rampaging snowstorms or over-dramatic demigods. Then somebody walked in, seeming not to notice her presence at all. Her body tensed, preparing to get up and slip out of the room to find somewhere else to sit, when she realized that it was Orin—and that something was wrong. She flinched slightly at the harsh noise of the chair grating against the floorboards. She could still leave. She knew that if she got up now, it was likely he wouldn’t see her or hear her, he was too consumed by his own troubles. She was already on her feet when she realized she couldn’t do that. Despite everything she’d said earlier and the harsh persona she’d put on, something in her stopped her from walking away and leaving Orin to deal with this on his own.
She wasn’t entirely sure what to do when he broke down and began to sob. She’d never been good at consoling people; she was more likely to make someone feel worse than to make them feel better. After a brief hesitation and wondering if she should go find someone who knew how to deal with emotions better than she did, she walked over. She crouched down in front of him so they were on the same level, reaching out to lightly touch his hand, just to get his attention—she wasn’t exactly the most comforting person and she knew that.
“Hey...” Her voice came out a lot softer than she would’ve liked, but she raised an eyebrow at him, silently wondering what could’ve possibly happened to break the egotistical son of Zeus. Any trace of mockery from earlier was gone, and she didn’t seem at all surprised to see him like this, to see the shattering of his bravado. She was a little too familiar with this to have any sense of shock left. Everyone at this camp was broken in one way or another, some were just better at hiding it than others. She didn’t ask if he was okay. He clearly wasn’t, and in the past she’d found that question to only be irritating and patronizing. Instead she asked, “What happened to nothing bothers you?” Her tone was light but her gaze was as steady and serious as it had ever been.

Jamie took the girls hand and shook it, offering the friendliest smile he could muster. “Jamie, nice to meet you.” He stepped inside after the girl, his thoughts still all over the place. He wasn’t really paying attention to where he was going as he rounded a corner and walked directly into someone. “Sorry!” He said quickly, stumbling back before realizing with wide eyes that it was the young girl who had complimented his scar earlier. “Oh, uh...hi.” He said, giving her a weak smile.

|Mirabelle Everhart|17|She/Her|Aphrodite|Head Counselor|Location: Medical Tent|Tags: Med Tent Gang, Juliet, Chuck, Skylar, Draco|
Sounds were coming a little more clearly now, though everything still seemed a bit like it was underwater. Mirabelle vaguely heard the centaur say something about holding on, so she forced her stiff limbs into action and grasped tight to the centaur's back. A sudden sadness prickled at the back of her consciousness like a rising tide. What the-? Realisation dawned on her that the emotion was not hers. The energy was unfamiliar, however - not Skylar, not Juliet, not Chuck. It has to be the centaur. This thought was quickly followed by another, cursing her lack of control over her abilities. Amokinesis was a double-edged sword. Certainly, she could control the romantic desires of others, but on the other hand, it left her privy to their emotions. Usually she had some control over her super-empathy, as it manifested, but hypothermic as she was, it had gone haywire.
|Juliet Pratten|16|She/Her|Hermes|Location: Medical Tent|Tags:Med tent gang, Mira, Chuck, Draco|
Juliet scowled at Mira being called 'her herd' but didn't protest the point further. That wasn't important right now.
"Yeah, sounds good," she remarked, oblivious to the centaur's roiling emotions. “Let’s get a move on, then! I’ll meet you there.” She gave the group a mock-salute before turning to head off towards Cabin 10. Though she was at loathe to leave Mira in her condition, she reckoned that she couldn’t really do anything else to help in the situation. Hovering around was just going to make her more anxious, and gods forbid she got in the way or screwed up somehow.
|Chuck Oakes|He/Him|Satyr|Location: Medical Tent|Tags: Med Tent Gang, Val, Draco, Skylar, Juliet, Mira|
"Like, good. I'll stay here and hold down the fort until like, everyone's moved out and stuff," Chuck suggested. "Then like, I can help pack up the tent, you know?" A cold gust of air blew through the flap, causing him to shiver slightly. "Like, on second thought... maybe I'll leave that to the cleaning harpies." His musings were interrupted by the arrival of a rather concerned-looking Chiron. The centaur seemed to take in the situation at hand, greeting everyone with an approving nod before heading into the folds of the tent.
"Like, seems like the guy's on a mission," Chuck remarked with a nervous laugh. "Probably making like, a list of everyone he's seen or something so he can find out who's missing." The thought of missing campers put a pit in his stomach. Maybe he'd make himself useful and join the search as soon as activity at the medical tent had wound down.
(I’ll write for him later, right now he’s just in the medical tent helping out lol)
|Vivienne Isole|18|She/Her|Khione|Location: Harper's|Tags: Nicholas|
Despite her need to remain stoic, Vivienne jumped when the sound of shattering glass penetrated her eardrums. Cursing her frazzled nerves, she did her best to reassemble her broken composure as Nicholas approached her. She stared at the small bone he had given her, mind as analytic as always. Delicate and fragile, her brief investigation told her. Most likely avian. It held a strange beauty to it, albeit a morbid one. She slipped the off-white object into her left hand pocket, being sure to remember where she’d placed it. Vivienne was silent as Nicholas bid her farewell, though one portion of his words had confused her a bit. Xaliphax? Her icy eyes narrowed. Perhaps his horse? He is a Horseman, after all - he must have one. She hadn’t seen any horses around when she’d come in here. The thought struck her that it probably had a more modern disguise or appearance, though she was unsure as to what it could be. With that, she gave the Horseman a sharp nod and headed on her way.

|Draco Eqquum-magno|19|Draft Centaur|He/him|Gay|The late Pan|Location: The medical tent|Tags: Mira, Juliet, Skylar|
Draco started to walk to the bighouse knowing that the two campers probably wouldn't be able to hang on if he trotted in their current state.
It was a long walk to the bighouse even as Draco walked as fast and smooth as he could to try to keep the pair out of the cold as fast as he could.
Draco didn't want to be alone with his thoughts, but he was sure the two girls didn't have the strength to answer questions and he didn't want to ask questions anyways. That took more energy then he had in his social meter.
Instead, he thought about what Chiron had asked of him. Chiron wanted him to tell the campers what he would be doing here and introduce himself.
He silently wondered how Chiron had the courage to look at him. He couldn't save their family, so why would Chiron help someone as undeserving as him? In the herd's greatest time of need he had failed them and that act alone was unforgivable and yet Chiron was allowing him to be here. It boggled Draco and he wasn't sure why Chiron was doing it.
Before he knew it Draco was at the bighouse and going through the motions of helping Skylar off his back and onto the deck of the bighouse before starting to walk to the Aphrodite cabin.
This time Draco couldn't keep out the horrible thoughts that had been threatening to kake themselves known. But despite these thoughts Draco held his head high, kept a smile on his face, and acted as if everything was perfectly fine and he wasn't drowning in emotion.
'For Chiron. Can't let em know that not only did I fail to protect the herd, but I failed to conceal my feelings.' Draco thought while attempting to push his thoughts to the side.

thanatos
mentioned: aiden╚xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx╝ the information dump did surprise teilo, and he took a moment to reflect on all that he had shared in such a short and seemingly unprompted manner. it hadn't even shaken him - there were certain memories he'd skipped over, little parts of the story that made his breath catch, but for the most part, it wasn't painful. just fact - like it had happened to someone else altogether. "just how things are," he said with a shrug. "nothing that i can do about it. complaining's not going to change any of it."
"i don't know. i think - we must've been twelve? thirteen? so, four or five years ago," teilo said, an attempt being made to tap into the long locked-away images.
the story of audra and vivienne was surprising. if not for its contents, but how similar the story was to his own. if he had been in a different circumstance, would he have been just as furious? if not for the comforting presence of the ghost, would he have lost himself? chilling, to be confronted with the other side of the coin.
"he wasn't a demigod, though. i don't think," a pause. "no. he wasn't. i knew both his parents. he had his dad's eyes and his mum's hair. mortal as they come." the thought made him shudder. "is that possible? can a mortal spit prophecies?" perhaps he should have paid a little more attention in his lessons than he had. it seemed a stupid question. "and even if that is, you know, true - i don't know if it gets us anywhere. if this has been predicted for years, then it looks a bit bad that we were all so surprised by this." he waved around at the snow-sifted trees.

mentioned: auggie╚xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx╝ alone at last - or perhaps not.
there was another set of breathing lungs that he hadn't heard before, barely audible over the chug of his own, but there nonetheless; footsteps that erred slowly, gently toward him, as though he was a lion about to be unwittingly tranquilised; and then the final nail in the coffin that confirmed that someone had bore witness to him. that someone was still bearing witness to him: a hand touching his own.
he held his breath. he wasn't sure what that achieved. maybe it would make them go away. maybe they'd think he was just tired, sleeping in a strange position. orin was tired, but he wasn't sure how believable that story was. he didn't want to look up, reveal the tear tracks, the red eyes that offset the green irises. this was not his finest hour.
auggie's voice came as a surprise. if he was to compile a list of all the people he anticipated to comfort him, she would have been pretty far down the bottom. their brief encounter and briefer truce didn't seem enough to make her care about him. he would have thought that she'd have taken it as ammunition for the next time - because there always was a next time with him.
a deep, shuddering breath in. orin didn't want his voice to wobble. "i'm a liar," he said bluntly, unsurprised to hear the rawness of his own tenors. "when it all comes down to it, i just lie. all of it." dull and quiet, muffled by his positioning. "it's fine. i'll be fine. just give it - i don't know how long. i'll be back to lying soon. easier for everyone." his words bled into one another, no longer sharp or direct. he didn't want auggie to see him like this - he didn't want anyone to, as a matter of fact. he was meant to be the soul of the camp - a title that he had given himself a long time ago, when things had been dire. it was easier then. there was more of a separation between mortal life and demigod life. they were falling into one another now, both of their weights pushing down on shoulders that could not handle much more.
