As I watched Goldendawn from a distance, my wings twitched. She was so beautiful, and I wanted to be her mate. But I wasn't the type to talk to girls. I kept watching her graze from a distance, looking away when she looked up. Riversong had a new foal. That was always good for the herd. Cloudracer was his name. He would be fast. Riversong and Docter were happy together. I wish that I could be happy too...

I looked up at my mother, wishing I was taller. "When will Cloudracer be able to play mom? I wanna play with him!" Mom just looked down at me happily. "He won't be ready to play until he's older darling."
"Oh...will he be bigger tomorrow?" "No silly." I looked over at Riversong again and sighed.

Goldendawn:

I could sense him looking at me. Rowan was the most handsome stallion I had ever seen. I know that Riversong wants me to find a stallion and be happy. But I'm scared that Rowan doesn't feel the same about me. What if he's staring at me with hatred? I can't go near him or else I act like I've gone completely bonkers. I just wish that I was brave enough to tell him.

What if she didn't like me? As she looked up again, I quickly ducked my head down. Nibbling at the grass, I decided that I was going to talk to her. It was now or never. The worst she could do was say she didn't like me...or turn me away. Okay, maybe I didn't want that to happen. I stamped my hoof down in frustration. I was supposed to be a brave stallion and I couldn't even talk to one mare? I looked up to see my father staring. "What's wrong?" He trotted up to me. "Oh...nothing..." "come on Rowan, I can see it, your wings are drooping!" "Umm-well...its Goldendawn..." "What about her? Does she not like you?" "No...its not that, its the opposite." "Oh...mare problems? Why, I remember When I first laid eyes on your mother. Prettiest mare in my day. I went right up to her and-" "Dad. Its fine, Ill take care of it." "If you say so Rowan...but if she ever gives you any problems, you know you can talk to me!"
I trotted away from my father, going towards Goldendawn. Lets hope I don't screw it up...

I looked up to see Rowan trotting towards me. Uh oh. I can't feel my hooves and my wings are trembling. He stopped in front of me and I waited for him to say something.

As I approached her, she trembled. Was she scared of me? "Um...Hello Goldendawn. I was wondering if you..."
I hadn't thought this out at all. How could I be so stupid? How did one go about asking someone if they loved them?
"I- Um...was wondering if you had your eyes on any of the stallions in the herd...We could always use new foals..."
What a disaster...we need new foals and fillies? Seriously? She was going to think I was a big screw up.

"Umm....." That was odd. I couldn't tell him. Does he like me too? I changed the subject and said "Do YOU have eyes on any mares?"

That was unexpected..."Well...there is one...She um...is very nice and beautiful.
I didn't know what else to say. I mean...I wanted to surprise her, and I didn't even know if she liked me back.

Yes! He did like me! I could see it in his eyes and hear it in the way he spoke! "Well, there is one stallion that I have eyes on," Rowan's wings drooped when I said that. " and he's standing right in front of me" I looked up to see the sadness turn to joy in Rowan's eyes. "So," I paused not beliving that this was actually happening "Would you like to be my mate?"

At first, I thought Goldendawn was joking. "Wait...m-me?" My wings perked up. "I uh- Like you too, Goldendawn. Your the most beautiful mare in the herd...and I would be honored if you would be my mate?"

Goldendawn:

"I would love to be your mate! I'll go tell Riversong!" I galloped over to Riversong and told her. She was so delighted to hear that I was finally happy.
