▶ OVERVIEW

CascadeClan shelters in a small, lush, fertile river-valley centered around a pond. The weather is mostly warm, moist, and humid. A farm can be found on the hill northwest of Cascade known as the Ryefields. Wheat is grown there and it makes the perfect hunting ground. To the east of Cascade is a jungle filled with exotic creatures known as the Wildcries. It's rumored that another Clan lives deep in the tropics, but no cat of Cascade has ever met one of theirs. The jungle is the second hunting ground, but only skilled cats can go in there, as the Wildcries are a very dangerous place. Cats of Cascade also fish in the pond. However, it will easily flood during the rain. Cascade cats' dens are out in the open. They sleep in nests made of lush grass. All cats sleep in the same area regardless of rank. However, sick cats sometimes stay at the farm. Cascade cats can be found in all colors, though some are less common than others. Grey and black-furred felines are seen often, with russet coming in as a close second. Brown is significantly rarer for whatever reason, as is cream. Solid white is much more common than partially white, though these felines rank in between greys and brown, and of course, only shorthaired cats or naive, pampered, or lost kittypets dare to venture in the wilds near the equator.▶ THE STORY

marspaw - training grounds
"we can't go to the lake right now. it's too muddy," one of the mentors was saying. marspaw could hear flaxpaw complain, "but i
need to see the ducks! i'm tall! the mud won't even bother me!" "i'm short," earthpaw announced.

marspaw let them squabble for a bit, then growled, "i want to be training. i don't care where it is." the mentors had sectioned
off an area near camp for the new training grounds and they were now attempting to get rid of the grass there, but the other two
ducklings were arguing and causing a ruckus. as usual, his voice got drowned out by the others and he decided there was no point
in saying anything.

he laid down in the softer patches of grass, listening to the chaos. he had quickly found the other ducklings to be too loud and too
excited for his liking. it didn't help that the yellow guide's kit puddlekit was here for some reason, sitting beside him and enjoying
the sun. "why are you here?" he had asked the kit warily. puddlekit just grinned and responded, "i'm going to be a duckling too soon!
i'm really excited." he squinted at him, highly doubting that the tiny kit was nearly a duckling. more pressingly, his mother was
nowhere in sight and he was pretty sure that he wasn't supposed to be here, but after silently judging puddlekit he returned back
to observing the others.

"flaxpaw," he snapped. the duckling gave a start. "when you become a warrior, you can head wherever you please, so shut up about
the pond and focus on becoming a warrior." flaxpaw seemed stunned, mouth slightly agape. puddlekit stared at him in awe and a
bit of admiration. everyone was looking at marspaw now, and he felt a little panicked because he hadn't planned for anything to
happen, but kept his wits. "are we going to clear the grass out or not?"

as the others figured out how to dig up the grass, cloudstripe commented ruefully, "i wish you were my duckling."

ivorytower is laying with her newborn kits when her body begins to seize severely, causing poolwatcher to push her kits towards another cupid (mockingbirdcall) as gooseglare tries to figure out what is wrong with ivorytower. the white molly's body freezes almost suddenly, her eyes rolling to the back of her head, as a voice that is not her own escapes her mouth, uttering a single phrase; "mohini is the tether." ivorytower collapses a moment later, falling into unconsciousness for several hours before she awakes, completely unaware of what had happened.

mohini is asked to see satinstar in the altar room, and there is confronted with the question; was it true? sightblaze fights on her side at first, but when mohini states she only used him and never really loved him, a switch inside of him flips. the munchkin tom attacks his 'mate', and as the two fight, the ruckus from the spirits banging on the walls of the church gets louder in their own rage. not wanting the tom to hold the guilt of killing his own 'mate', satinstar steps in to finish the fight. the second that mohini is killed, all is silent; the spirits are gone. however, in her last breath mohini's claws caught satinstar's neck; the leader loses another life.
