Yes, also the Maned Wolf would be needed to be protected, I believe.

I approve of your opinion, Silverfang.

Actually, the Maned Wolf isn't really a wolf ^^ But yes, they do need to be protected as well.

I'm a wolf lover, but I'm anti-wolfaboo and think they're an overated animal.
But an animal's an animal, and therefore awesome.

Well, I see that most people here live in America, I have found that Americans are not as predjudiced against wolves as people are here in the United Kingdom.

Wherever I go, people do not care nor like wolves. They are scared of them, they do not understand them properly, they think they are one of the most dangerous animals out there, and want nothing to do with them.

Here are a few examples of what I have heard/been told.

# My science tutor has a daughter; She's already afraid of wolves, even though she has only ever seen cartoons, stories, and nursery rhymes.
# They are planning to release wolves into the highlands of Scotland, to start with, they will be released into a very large enclosure, I was talking to one of my mothers friends who lives in Scotland; She does not like wolves at all, she believes that they are dangerous, and many people will die when they are finally released. She was a dog breeder, and where did her precious dogs originally come from? I think you guys can work that out, but she certainly couldn't, arrogant woman that she is.
# At a zoo, it was the feeding time for the wolves (the part I was waiting for the whole day to see; This woman was also watching, and she said "Ooh, do they have to wear protective clothing?". Yeah, a diving suit. Just when she said this, all the wolves shot down into their den and disappeared as the keepers hung out their food.
# And everyone else that I've met (excluding my sister) knows nothing about the predjudice about wolves. Wolves are the "bad guy" in the animal kingdom, along with sharks.

Rats are not evil animals, but they are understood, especially if you lived in my ratty area. If you are going to trap a wild rat, it has to be a trap that will kill them, because when you let them go out of a live trap, they will often turn around and attack you. They also hoard hundreds of diseases, because they go anywhere and eat anything.

Maybe this is why I hear so much negativity about wolves, and because of where I live, people don't really understand it, because most live in America, where people are with wolves, so have learnt not to be afraid of them, but to respect them.

Well, apart from the ones that shoot them.

I think that wolves are amazing, as is all life on this planet. Our species share an extremely strong bond with theirs, why else would we name divine beings (gods) after them? I probably fit the label, "Wolfaboo". But then, I'd also fit the labels, "Cheetahboo", "Deeraboo", or, "Whaleaboo", to name a few. As far as I can remember, I've ALWAYS had a strong passion and deep respect for other animals (especially mammals), often to the point of losing my respect for humans and feeling disgusted by the knowledge that I am a part of their deplorable species. In many of my dreams, I'm a wolf, in such dreams I am truly free. Usually, when I'm human, I'm the opposite sex, such dreams are like celebrations of what makes me feel good. For me, being a human female in a dream means I have to experience a part of myself that I'm uncomfortable with.

I resent humans who believe their own species is of ultimately more value than any other, especially when they believe it to the point of disregarding or denying the sentience of their non-human counterparts. Hey humans, here's a quote that bears repeating: "With great power comes great responsibility." Quit abusing it.

I don't mind most wolfaboos, but there are certain ones I hate, and those are the people saying humans should all go die so wolves can be happy etc. I actually had someone tell me that wolves would only attack wolf haters and can sense if you like wolves and decide whether to attack or not... 1. Wolves don't attack people. 2. They definitely don't chose to attack when they do based on whether the person thinks they are cool or not xD

And keep the dogs from dragging me off with them
While I slept you crept in and pulled the rug right out from under me

To make you feel better, "wolf-a-boos" are people who say "OMG I HATE PPLS WHO HATE WOLVES I WISH WOLVES WOULD RIP THEM APART AND EAT THEIR FLESH!". I don't get the feeling that you are like this.

I too, feel sometimes ashamed to be a human, because of all the intelligence we have, and how many abuse it and use it against animals, which are not as intelligent, and because as a species we rule this world, we have to take responsibility for the animals, not kill them out of anger or intolerance just because we can.

But then, I just think to myself, "Without people, like me, who care about wolves and wish to protect them, what would they do?".

Here is a little poem about wolves, and the wrong humans do to them, it is titled "I am a wolf".

"I am wolf. I speak to you for my species. Please stop killing us.

We have walked this earth for thousands of years. We want to live in peace and raise our families. If we occasionally kill livestock it’s because we are hungry and you make it so easy. Nobody is guarding the cows and sheep. We are hunters and so we hunt. You kill billions of animals every year for food yet you blame us for a a few dozen cows?

People chase us with guns and shoot us. They use nasty traps that hurt our legs. Once in Alaska, one of our kind, a mother wolf, was stuck in a leg hold trap for fourteen days, she was so hungry her teeth were broken from eating rocks. Would you like to have your leg or arm stuck in a trap so you couldn’t get away? Then after you have been stuck for days or even weeks, with your family surrounding you but helpless to set you free, someone comes and shoots you?

You make us orphans to starve or kill us with our parents. You chase us in helicopter gun ships, we run for our lives but we can’t get away. Your shotguns riddle us with buckshot. We cry and howl in pain, then we die. This is wrong. We would never treat you this way.

We are wild, we don’t understand your rules. We can’t read signs or understand your boundaries. We are driven by hundreds of thousands of years of evolution. What we do is in our genes. We were put on this earth to keep ungulate herds healthy. We mean you no harm. Please stop killing our families. There is room on this land for both of us. You only have to find a place in your heart for us to dwell.

I am wolf…".

Really sweet poem.
