hickoryfoot swiveled his ears towards the senior warrior. his heart felt like it was going to burst as he heard the cat compliment his apprentice. while he knew she was a strong cat with a lot of courage, he couldn’t help but feel proud of her. if other cats noticed how headstrong she was and spoke of her so highly, he knew he must have been doing something right. “Of course she will! I just hope she doesn’t get to full of herself and tried to take on something crazy by herself. i just worry for her. a lot”. hickoryfoot always had been very invested in his apprenticeship, and understood that any praise feels like the best. and he knew he would immediately be telling the young female as soon as he returned to camp. but for now, he could only raise his tail and puff out his chest. he glanced at sproutbloom. he seemed a bit out of touch, so the tom spoke with a low voice. “so where exactly are we heading today, sproutbloom?” he asked, trying to seem more inviting to him.

Halfbite casted a quick glance in Flamepaw's direction when she and Hazepaw passed him, but she didn't say anything and moved forward. Her fur brushed against the undergrowth as she followed her apprentice out of camp. From here on out, the molly would keep a longer distance between herself and Hazepaw - enough so she could still observe his training, but give him space and room to concentrate on the hunt.

Flamepaw's thoughts paused for a moment when Hazepaw approached to give him a comforting nudge. He offered his brother a thankful smile, calmed by his gesture. If Hazepaw believes in me, then I can't mess it up that bad, Flamepaw thought, finding a bit confidence in himself.

As Oakbranch and Draco also offered their support, the apprentice put his worries aside for now and straightened up, ready to take on the challenge. He remembered, that no matter what, his clanmates will always have his side. "Okay. Thank you. I'll try and do my best." He meowed and got up on his feet, starting to lead the way out of camp with his tail held up and slightly curled to signal 'follow me' to the others.

The orange tabby slipped past the camp defenses into the open territory, beginning to think of all the good places where to hunt. "There's that one blackberry bush that Murkypaw showed me... Maybe by the creek?... Might be some luck by that one fallen log..." Flamepaw pondered as he moved a bit away from the camp, sniffing the air. Hmm. The morning patrol went in that direction... and... Halfbite and Hazepaw that way... Okay, no hunting there then.

Finally, Flamepaw had decided and turned to the other warriors. "Oakbranch and Leafcloud, I'd like you to look for prey by the shallow creek. Draco, we should check the ferns at the edge of the territory. If we're lucky, there might be something burrowing there. The young tom meowed to the others, looking up at them and waiting to see what they thought of his plan.

the tom followed out behind flamepaw and the rest of the group, his long tail flicking out with excitement for the hunt. the warrior watched the apprentice finding his tail position correct, high and unwavering as a patrol leaders should be. he stopped and watched flamepaw consider his options of where to hunt, the brown furred tom turned his head towards hazepaw and halfbite wandering off into the underbrush. his green eyes then turned back to the apprentice in front, he wondered if flamepaw would make the mistake of being near other cats though oakbranch's thoughts were quickly put to rest as the younger tom spoke up.

the warrior felt a small smile across his maw as he heard flamepaw's plan of action, he nodded with approval with draco backing his gesture. "wouldn't have thought of something better myself." he meowed cheerfully then looked to leafcloud and nodded once more "indeed we do." he then turned towards the shallow creek and began making his way turning to speak to leafcloud as they walked. "do you remember your first time on patrol?" he meowed softly making light conversation with the molly

the young molly slightly bristled hearing another deeper tom's voice, she turned her head to see a large yellow furred cat. great now there's more.. she pricked her ears towards him as he mentioned where he was heading. though it seems he hadn't noticed her presence, she sat firm on the branch as he spoke, clan?.. like father.. her eyes went wide and her tail flicked out with excitement. the molly worked up the courage to climb down, she swiftly leapt from branch to branch and hit the ground with a soft thump at the base of the tree, her bi-colored eyes resting intently on the tom standing a fox length away. "did you know bonemask? he was my father.. he came from a clan and wanted me to join one day." the molly meowed her eyes bright as she stood with her head high and tail waving out behind her slowly.

the tom blinked softly seeing that his mentor was ready, he set off into the darker underbrush, his tail low and his ears pricked as he crept through the forest keeping all senses heightened as to not miss anything and make as little noise as possible. the tom stopped when he got far enough away from camp allowing the thought of his mentor watching him to slip away and focusing on the hunt itself, he raised his head and parted his maw to take in the scents around him. the apprentice closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, stopping as he caught the scent of mouse, pretty strong and upwind of him meaning his scent was hidden from it. with luck this would be his first catch.

hazepaw dropped into a hunters crouch, keeping most of his weight on his back paws and his maw open to track the scent, keeping his face low and eyes traced in front of him. his dark furred ears swiveled about incase of danger that he may not scent. his tail swept low as he crept, avoiding most dried leaves and fragile twigs, the scent led to a hollowed out log it reeked of mouse and he knew he had found his prey. the tom analyzed the log, both ends were open as well as a few holes in the bark meaning that he could lose the mouse very easily though he did not let that discourage him. he circled around the log quietly trying to find exactly where the mouse was.

the apprentice heard nibbling and squeaking from the right side, he flattened himself against the ground near the entrance making sure to blend in with the darker underbrush, he heard the sound of little paws scrapping at the bark, the dark furred tom prepared himself raising his haunches, he would only get one shot if the mouse decided to come out of the log. his eyes narrowed and his tail tip twitched as he waited, his heart pounding with anticipation. he saw a peek of nose and whiskers from the entrance of the log, he didn't move a muscle if it scented him it was over he just hoped he was far enough away to get away with it. his whiskers twitched as the mouse continued to sniff, still not moving so hazepaw's muscles only bunched more. slowly the mouse crept out looking about it cautiously, hazepaw still did not move, he was a fox length away and could make it in one solid leap. the tom waiting until the mouse was fully out of the log and released his back legs, pushing off the ground with force sending him up and forward. the mouse was looking away as he came down on it. his claws sheathed as he pinned the mouse down gripped it's neck, applying slight pressure until he heard a soft crack of the bone and it body going limp in his jaw.

the molly flicked her ears back as the apprentice ignored her offer of prey, sighing as she dipped her head and took a bite out of the vole before her, she hadn't realized how hungry she was until she took a bite very grateful for the meal. she perked her ears as dawnpaw spoke curious for the day's adventures. she swallowed her mouthful and spoke softly, "we're very low on marigold and lavender.. also i thought it would be best to collect a bit more of cat-mint or hawkweed for leaf-bare" she meowed going through the list in her head. the winter months were the harshest on the clan as well as the herbs she so loves. the brown and white tabby molly lowered her head to take another bite of the prey, savoring it then hoping that dawnpaw would take some interest in eating to gain strength for the tasks at hand.
