oekaki thumbnails discussion {READ FIRST POST}

i'll again bring up a suggestion of my own.

overhaul the off-oekaki board and make it the same structure as the oekaki ones.
let us upload our own art and have it in a gallery style format! maybe let us crosspost to other galleries so we can add entries to c4cs and myos? i don't know how possible it is, but seeing as it's possible to move things out of subgalleries, i'm guessing it would be possible to add to one?
right now, the off-oekaki board is a graveyard that gets no attention simply because the format for art is so bad.
all i want at this point is a compromise, and i feel like this would be a great way to fix the issue. i feel it wouldn't be harder to moderate, as we can already upload our own images with bbcode, only this would be so much neater and easier to use.

I agree! Like it or not, this website is less of a pet adoption website and more of an art website. This community is thriving, and you are excluding major parts of the people in it.
The roleplay community already died. I would hate to see the next biggest community crumble due to a new interpretation of an old rule

as much as i support an overhaul of the off-oekaki boards to make them more popular, there is no way this suggestion will work. moderation will need to ramp up tenfold, both on the "is this cs appropriate" side and the art theft side.

the main issue with uneven enforcement of rules on the site here that people are (rightfully) angry about is because mods cannot keep up with the amount of content posted on this site daily. there is no way they would be able to add on an entirely new image-hosting portion of the website when they're already struggling with oekaki.

edit: to address ford's last statement about uploading images with bbcode - it would be harder to moderate because traffic would increase.

Wind, I didn't have a hand in the decision on your thread. However, I think because yours was a bit more focused on the off-oekaki art than the headshot above, it was determined that it needed locked. Weighing the focus of the thread's discussion/point with the effort put in to both is probably the toughest part of a call like that. Is an adopter going in to adopt that headshot, or are they going for the fullbody? ^^;; It toes the line, but from the wrong side, unfortunately.

I use an IPad, and let me tell you, trying to use Oekaki on an iPad is like trying to participate in the Olympics while wearing an inflatable T-Rex costume.
Please, if you can’t update the off-oekaki board, FIX CHICKENPAINT so we can actually use it on mobile! Not everyone can afford a drawing tablet and it makes me sad I can’t draw on oekaki! 💗✨

Now that it’s being brought up, what about animation? Does it count as a cover if I make the art in oekaki but use a gif maker and post it under the art? (Or, subsequently, use an offsite program to animate it) Is that suddenly counted as offsite art and the main piece a cover because there’s art under it or.

Curious, I've seen people draw a cover or art on oekaki but still post to another forum that isn't oekaki related. Does this clog oekaki feed? This way it provides a thumbnail on the actual c4c but not on the oekaki forums? If not, is there a way we can change it so it won't spam the actual oekaki forums? The main issue as it seems is the c4c threads, of which I have one of my own but it's with a popular base instead. I'm truly sorry if this makes no sense and if I need to elaborate, please ask!

That does sound like a neat compromise if it is possible to add. I can see how off-Oekaki posts might not get as much attention since their thumbnails aren't visible like Oekaki pieces. And I apologize if I sounded like I was disagreeing; my main point was to re-state why the cover rule exists in the first place. Thanks for the suggestion, ford!

As the big red lock seems to be an issue for many users, it's definitely worth re-evaluating. I can't make any promises but I poked Nick about it.

The cover rule was addressed in 2015 in response to the influx of things being posted on the Oekaki that weren't created using the Oekaki program, so it's quite unfair to bring up old posts that break rules that were not in place at the time.

I'll reiterate: I've been a mod since May 2014, the rule was there even before I was a mod. It predates me.

this question is not with malicious intent or to be rude!! ;;v;;
but trying to clear things up, was the rule made in 2015? or was it made even before 2014, and was just fully noticed as 2015?
and assuming it was addressed in 2015 to cover the rule and how a lot of off-oekaki art was being posted, i'm not sure how much off-oekaki art is being posted nowadays. a lot, if i had to guess?

once again thank you to the mods for responding to us. it feels nice to be actually talked to, instead of overshadowed.
