Desmond wrote:Is there an issue with posting non-Oekaki C4C responses on the original thread? Similarly to how Competitions work - Person A owns a thread, Person B posts on their thread with an entry or response to their challenge, and Person A responds back on the same thread with their response. Either that, or going to PMs would be fine. Not being able to make a thread because you can't use the Oekaki isn't the end of the world and doesn't mean you can't participate, as far as I know. But, like I said, I'm not over there terribly often, if there's a good reason why that won't work, I'm open to hearing it.

i mentioned this earlier in the thread.

c4cs tend to be extremely popular. if all off oekaki posts had to be in the same one thread, it would get incredibly spammy and very hard to dig through if you're looking for a specific piece, compared to the neat and tidy oekaki subgallery format. same issue with pms- if you ask everyone using a program other than oekaki to dm you, your dms will fill very, very fast- not to mention that would exclude coppa players.

*hi please mostly ignore me but ah gonna drop my small thing here*
Please try to remember that the mods are people and we outnumber them by the thousands.
That can't be easy to handle at all
Am I saying some things were handled correctly?
No
But ah
Mods are prolly just trying to do their best and are probably frustrated and are most likely being told what to do(Like most jobs)
Any who
That's all I wanted to say

So if you see a cover Oekaki, you should be reporting it instead of just making a list of stuff we were too busy elsewhere to spot and lock, then try to use it against us for whatever reason, lol.

personally, my reason for posting a list of threads dating back to 2015 wasn't to prove that cs mods are at fault for locking some recent covers and not others, but rather the fact that this rule wasn't enforced in 2015. i don't take issue with the fact that the mod team can't be everywhere and catch every rule-breaking thread; y'all are only human after all. what i do take issue with the fact that this was suddenly enforced out of nowhere with no prior warning. if the rule was so important, i'd like to know why it wasn't enforced until very recently, without so much as an announcement to let us know.

That is the rule, and that has always been the rule, as long as and before I became a mod over six years ago. We have not changed it on you. If you want to share are not made in the Oekaki, that stuff goes in the Art Galleries board.

The site should be able to grow and develop with its user base. Even if this isn't a new rule its quite obvious that it's not a function rule that creates order and is in fact the exact opposite. Maybe it is time the rule change.

I presume that could be fixed by providing a code word for these users to post, so it'd be easy to pull only entrants? Like, if all non-Oekaki users posted "Marmalade" with their entries, Person A just has to search that in the thread to pull all entries. This has worked for adoptables in the main board's adoptable thread - where all forms for all available adopts get posted on the same thread. ^^;;

I've been an omod since May 2014... The rule, I assure you, was never changed. People have just been breaking it for a long time, and it wouldn't be an issue of being enforced if people just followed it in the first place.

We understand this completely, we're just confused as to why things seem to be more enforced now. Was there some discussion in the mod team that things were getting too out of hand? The rule has been enforced only lightly up until recently; was there some reason for that?
We want to understand why these things are happening, and I can almost guarantee that everyone in this thread is willing to support the mod team in their work. But there has been so little communication from the team that we all feel a little blindsided. We just want you guys to talk to us about the changes.

Mods you guys need to actually start listening to your community and trying to compromise. Ever since Tess effectively left a few years ago it seems that the mod team has been scrambling around like a chicken with its head cut off. You guys need some leadership super badly and it shows through the inconsistency of rulings, lack of updates, and high staff turnover rate. How staff works needs a serious overhaul and we need more than one coder if this site is gonna live much longer.

that... just further proves my point. if people weren't following the rules in the first place, it's the mods' job to make sure that the problematic threads are locked so that site members understand what the issue is. the responsibility falls on you.

i'll quote myself from earlier.

ford wrote:sure, i could post the characters in the thread, or dm the characters to the person i drew them for, but i feel like that... would be just as, if not more, spammy than a cover? i mean, would you rather scroll through a thread of dozens of large images, have your dms spammed with art being sent, or... have a nice, clean gallery to go through and see each entry, both off and on oekaki together so they don't get lost?

again, the issue is with the thread format.
making all off oekaki entrants post in the thread would make a thread full of either nothing but large images you'd have to scroll through, or dozens of offsite links of different kinds. which gets incredibly spammy and a hassle to deal with, compared to having each image on site in one neat little place in the subgallery without having to search for certain entries and links.

Agreed. If the rule had been strictly enforced six years ago as it is this past month or so, we wouldn't have had such a problem. But as it stands, people have been comfortable posting off-Oekaki art on the Oekaki boards because we've never really been discouraged from doing it. I think everyone just assumed that the staff was cool with it.
