Tried to experiment a little with a 1pt brush, full opacity, and 0 smoothness. The shading and highlights are watercolor. It's kinda messy but not bad. But I really really gotta go now dsoigrhjodrjhpod

the only thing i can reliably use 0% smoothing with is adding the color layers to the linework oh man, so i commend you on that!
