This is such a cute event! The pets are lovely, but I especially like the little origami items

I'm definitely going to try my hand at making one of these myself today!

I've never been that good at making cranes, but I do remember this one time at a hospital that had an art room, my mom and I were taught how to make pretty origami paper and make a crane out of it (I'll post pictures later when I make the how-to for one of my favorite origamis). I sadly don't remember how to do the paper; that was a few days before September 26th, 2011 (maybe 1-3 days?). Long story short, MomMom (grandma on my mom's side) had gotten cancer and we were at that hospital with her towards the end. It was a cancer-based hospital, so they had different things (like the art room) for children and adults. Even before that I was somewhat interested in origami, but that made me even more interested. Now I have a huge "professional" kit, a smaller money origami kit, and a few other travel-origami kits from places like the dollar tree. I still have each and every necklace and origami crane we made there. MomMom sadly passed away in that hospital on September 26, 2010. A couple cousins and one or two other adult family members were there; and my cousin Sarah had pretty much just gotten done trying to teach me how to play chess... That failed horribly 😂... It was pretty late at night, so the only kid-friendly thing we could find on the little tv in the waiting room was that power rangers tv show, which all of us were just-barely watching when a dude came out to tell us that she had passed away... I have not made origami things as much as I should have, but I've definitely been more into it recently

Seasonal wanted me to post how I KILLED IT on my first shot:

In all seriousness though, I finally did manage to pull it off (kinda):

Here are the smallest ones I ever made (years ago but I kept them, they are so tinyyy and crooked)

Aaaah I love everyone's cranes!!
the failed one as well lolThank you to everyone who tried out the tutorial and made one, or at least tried to make one. Please don't feel bad if you couldn't finish the origami ;;
I also love reading everyone's stories they have about folding origami!
I'm happy to hear this brings some joy to some people <3
I remember when I was really into Anime & Manga I read a short Manga about the 1000 cranes that grant a wish. It was turned into a love story and printed in a magazine. For some reason that left an impression on me and I got into origami for a while.
I haven't made one in a while and only did so to prepare for this day; I used the crane I made as a reference for the little crane items and to make the tutorial. I had forgotten how fun and relaxing it can be ;;
And, as a wild coincidence, a friend of mine sent me a package with late birthday /early christmas gifts and there was a pack of origami paper included. We've never talked about origami or anything like that ever before. That gift couldn't have been more fitting and perfect ;;
