\\ The chilly air brought the threat of snow on the horizon, but it was not important right now to the duo. Hoot and Pine trotted back to their new camp, chatting about what just happened. a cat appeared on their horizon, but the pair of toms were too deep in conversation to notice. At least, until the cat walked right into them, knocking Hootstar into Pinefang. As the confused toms got up, whirled around, and met their... Attacker? The other, pointed cat looked just as dazed as they were. Eventually, Hootstar broke the silence with "Erm- who are you?" To which the cat responded "I'm... Not sure. I guess my name is Cocoa- at least, that's what the no-furs called me. The no-furs dropped me off from their monster and they haven't come back, so I came over this way and then I found you." They looked around, trying to get their bearings. "You don't happen to have your no-furs around, do you?" Pinefang simply tilted his head, while Hoot told the stranger that they were wild cats. "Ohh! I remember my sister saying that a few wild cats lived around this place. I wonder where she's gone... We went seperate ways when we were dropped off... So you live without a no-fur? How weird!" After a bit more explaining, the trio eventually made their way to the camp. On the way, they decided that Cocoa could be called Cocoaface, and that they would stay with them for a bit, seeing as they had nowhere else to go. As they arrived, they were greeted by a tortoisetail- sorry, tortoiseSHELL tail disapearing through one of the empty dens. Pinefang went to bury the rabbit and mouse they found, and returned to the group. Taking a closer look was a frantic tortoiseshell carrying a few herbs in a large, unidentifiable leaf. Turning around, the tortoiseshell noticed them, and dropped their bundle. "Oh, hello!" The stranger replied, her gaze going around and landing on Hootstar. "You must be Hootstar! I can't wait to become your medicine cat a- well, just medicine cat!" She swept the rocks with her tail, taking a few dried up herbs with it. Sighing, she continued, "I was the medicine cat apprentice, but I got killed early on by the predator that killed our clan, during my trial... But, our ancestors gave me another chance, with the name Cherrydusk, and i'm going to help revive my clan!" She stamped her paw aganst the ground confidently. "But, first... I need to get herbs! How can I be a medicine cat with a few measly things? I have to go, sorry!" She told them as she left, carrying just the leaf with her. The trio looked at each other, before Hootstar shrugged and went to go clean up the camp. //

Hunting Patrols: Hootstar decided to switch around and hunt, while the others patrol.
Searching Patrols: Cocoaface and Pinefang are searching for cats, and keeping an eye out for Cocoaface's sister. (Though, she might be very far from the territory as of now...)

Medicine: Cherrydusk has brought with her 1x thyme, 1x dock, 1x moss, 1x rush, and 1x cobwebs. Cherrydusk is hurrily off to gather herbs, to replenish her lost stock.

During leafbare, queens and kits are more likely to die during birth, prey will be less abundant, and less cats will be found on patrol.
In addition, predators and sicknesses abound, waiting for the chance to pick off the weak.
All in all, it is best for a clan to be at full strength during this time.

Lightrunner looked happily down at the three bundles at her belly. She could still feel the discomfort and the pain numbly drifting through her, but the struggle had been worth it. She knew she wasn’t supposed to have favorites, but her little boy...her son...he looked so much like his father with his large floppy ears. She couldn’t resist feeling an automatic pull to him. Goldkit rolled onto his back, showing his fuzzy tummy. Lightrunner bent down and gave his chest a lick. He let out a squeak, causing his mother to laugh. She flicked her tail gently. She loved her family, and she couldn’t wait for Tallthorn to share in the joy.

Falconflight shuffled his paws over the frozen grass. The ground was starting to be dusted with snow, and flurries drifted down around him.
“I love the winter.” Thistlewing hummed, looking over the partially frozen river “It’s freezing, but so pretty.”
“Yea,” Falconfeather grinned “B-but my view is prettier.” His gaze was fixed on her face, and he could see color rising to her cheeks.
“You don’t mean that.” She said, but not in a solid way. Her voice was almost prompting, as if she was waiting on what he had to say in response.
“I do.” He assured “You’re b-b-beautiful, Thistlewing.” The she-cat smiled softly, and a small burst of wind caused her cheek fluff to flow. Her eyes turned to him and there was an earnest hope in her face.
“You’re so kind, Falconfeather.” She sighed “You always have been...ever since we were young. Why is that?” Falconfeather was legitimately stumped.
“I don’t know.” He said honestly “You’re just...there’s something about you that’s always attracted me. You’re kind and quick-witted. You laugh like no one else. The way your whole face lights up when you crack a joke and watch others chuckle is something I’ve never seen before. You’re so unique and I just have to be around you.” He swallowed and his tongue felt like it weighed a million pounds. “Listen, I’ve been meaning to talk to you-”
“Yes.” Thistlewing said with a beaming grin.
“I haven’t even-”
“I know what you’re going to say.” She purred “Redfin has a hard time containing his excitement. I overheard him talking about your proposal.” Falconfeather’s ears flattened against his skull. Stupid Redfin. His father ruined the surprise. Anger started to build up, but it dissolved as soon as Thistlewing came up to him and licked his jaw.
“It’s alright.” She whispered “It didn’t change my answer. To be honest, I’ve been waiting a while for you to ask.”
“Then why didn’t you say something?”
“I didn’t want to rush you.” She stated “But if you’re ready now, I guess I have no choice but to accept.” Her words had a comical bite, but there was nothing but genuine love and appreciation in her eyes. Falconfeather felt his muscles relax, and he pressed his forehead against hers.
“Will you be my mate?” He murmured, even though he knew the answer.
“I would love nothing more than to be with you forever, Falconfeather.” She purred. The pair pressed against each other and sat in the snowy clearing until they couldn’t feel their rumps. Then, they went side by side back to camp to share the exciting news. BearClan had a new couple, and nothing would ever get between them.

{Proof of winning the LaurelClan family}

It had been a quarter moon since Spooky had heard anything about Angel's Clan. Then again, for a quarter moon he hadn't seen much of Angel. They'd certainly been leaving their den in the mornings and coming back at night, but Spooky hadn't seen the stocky white cat anywhere in twolegplace aside from then. Spooky hadn't thought too much about it. Angel had a reputation for being strange, and he was sure they'd return to their regular routine soon enough.

Fall had turned to winter, and today Spooky watched the light dusting of snow fall from the warmth of the windowsill. He'd been spending fewer days outside lately, not wanting to deal with the cold without the presence of his best friend - though he'd never admit that. He'd been slowly nodding off to sleep when he heard muffled yowling from outside.

"Spooky! Spooky, get out here!" shouted Angel. "I need to show you something!"

Now wide awake, Spooky jumped down to the floor and headed out the cat door, then padded over to Angel, snow crunching beneath his paws.

"Awesome! Remember how you said I can't have a Clan without a territory?" They didn't give Spooky a chance to answer. "I found a patch of untamed land! And I made a camp and dens and everything! Come with me and you can see it!"

"Sure," replied Spooky with as much enthusiasm as he could muster. Which, admittedly, wasn't much. He wasn't too big on this whole Clan thing, he was just in it to support his friend.

Cheerfully, Angel said, "Follow me! Let me know if I need to slow down for you." Then they sprinted off, and Spooky followed closely behind. The twoleg dens thinned out, and Spooky could see trees up ahead. The duo stopped at the thunderpath just before the trees, made sure no monsters were coming, then continued their dash into the forest. Finally, Angel lead Spooky to a clearing.

"Look at this! This is the SuburbClan camp." They gestured to where dirt had been dug out from beneath a tree's roots, creating a hollow. "That's the leader's den. I hang out there, since I'm the leader." One by one, they gestured to various bushes and hollows they'd reinforced, naming each den. "Let's go in the nursery, it's the warmest. Normally it's reserved for queens and kits, but it's just us in the camp right now." Spooky followed Angel through a gap into a thorn bush that had been reinforced with branches. The ground inside the den was free of snow, and as the pair stood in the den they quickly warmed up.

"I've got to admit, I'm impressed," Spooky confessed. "You really did put a lot of work into this, Angel."

"It's Angelstar now. Oh, I forgot to tell you! Clan cats have special names! There's two parts. The first part is given to you by your housefolk, but the second you get to choose. My housefolk named me Angel, and I added star because star is what leaders always have as the second part of their names. You can pick anything but star, kit, or paw for your second part, because those are reserved for leader, kit, and apprentice," Angelstar rambled.

"Uh, okay." Spooky hadn't even agreed to being a Clan cat, but he felt too pressured to say no. "I'll be Spooky..." He looked at the thorns around them. "...thorn. Spookythorn."

"I love it! Did you pick it because thorns are dangerous, but protective? Both qualities a Clan cat needs?" they asked.

"Yeah," he lied.

"Now that that's out of the way, I need to explain the ranks to you. There's leader, of course. The leader runs the Clan, makes all the major decisions, and so on. Then there's the deputy, that'll be you. Deputy is second-in-command, and is in charge of organizing patrols. Warriors are the bulk of the Clan, they do the hunting and fighting. Apprentices are warriors in training. Queens are pregnant cats and cats with kits, and kits are kits. And elders are cats too old to hunt or fight, but they still have wisdom to give." Angelstar took a moment to catch their breath. "Since it's just us right now, we should be the ones hunting and patrolling."

Spookythorn looked at the sun dipping low in the sky. "Maybe tomorrow. Right now we should be heading home, so our housefolk don't worry."

Angelstar nodded, and the two Clan cats headed home for the night.

Bloomwhisker and her family had met with misfortune after misfortune. First the fire had ravaged LaurelClan territory, scattering the Clan permanently. The family of four had managed to find each other afterwards, but the rest of the Clan had gone. Then, Featherkit had gotten stuck in a twoleg trap, driven to eat the bait by leafbare hunger. The other three had tried to free him, his father Liontuft trying the hardest, but they ended up being taken by twolegs along with Featherkit. Now all four of them - Squirrelcall, Liontuft, Bloomwhisker, and Featherkit - were stuck living as kittypets.

And the worst part is, they were getting used to it. The food taster better every day, and the twoleg who'd taken them in seemed more understandable with each passing day. Featherkit had even let her pet him yesterday. The family had been kept strictly inside, and Bloomwhisker wondered if she'd ever see the sun again. But today, after the twoleg had given them their first serving of kittypet slop, she did the unexpected. She opened the door, and called for the cats to come over.

It was Squirrelcall who spoke first. "What are we waiting for? Let's go!" She dashed out the door, and the other three quickly followed. The twoleg shouted something behind them in her strange language, but she didn't seem upset. Hopeful, maybe.

"She's not letting us go free, is she?" Bloomwhisker asked as the group slowed down, walking along the edge of a thunderpath.

Liontuft shook his head. "Sometimes kittypets are allowed outside their dens, but they always have to return eventually."

"There's no reason we have to return though. We can find a new Clan, or even start one. We don't need to live as kittypets," Squirrelcall mewed.

"But I like being a kittypet," Featherkit whined. The other three turned to stare at him, but he was oblivious. "It's warm in the twoleg den, and our housefolk is really nice! I don't have to worry about bad weather, or predators, or going hungry either.

Liontuft flattened his ears against his head. "It's not the warrior way. The dark forest wants us-"

"If the dark forest wanted us to live in a Clan, then maybe there wouldn't have been a fire!" Bloomwhisker blurted out. Now Squirrelcall and Liontuft were staring at her instead. "Who knows which of our Clanmates even survived the fire? Palecloud was due to give birth any day, do you think she could run faster than the flames with that big belly of hers?" she continued, not caring how much she angered her mother and uncle. "Maybe we're not meant to be Clan cats, maybe our destiny is as kittypets and you're denying that because you're too proud to admit that being a kittypet is a valid lifestyle!"

Squirrelcall and Liontuft suddenly looked very tired. "Maybe she's right," Squirrelcall sighed. "I think the dark forest abandoned us that day."

Liontuft made a motion like he was going to contest that statement, but said nothing. After a brief pause, he said, "If Featherkit is happy living as a kittypet, then I'll stay with him. I'd like all four of us to stick together, no matter what. Clan cat, kittypet, loner, rogue, whatever. That's what's most important to me."

The other three quietly agreed, and they spent the rest of the daylight hours exploring twolegplace, meeting their new neighbors and observing the new territory. As the sun set, they returned to the warmth of the twoleg den with a new appreciation for the kittypet lifestyle. When the morning came, they were once again released to roam twolegplace. As they were walking, they were flagged down by a stocky white cat, who was walking with a black oriental cat.

"Hi! Are you four the former Clan cats?" they called.

"Yes," Squirrelcall replied guardedly. "How did you know?"

"Oh, rumor travels fast! A friend of a friend overheard your argument yesterday, and they told a friend, and the friend told me. Sorry if that's a secret, but like, all of twolegplace knows now."

Relaxed now, Squirrelcall laughed. "Not a secret at all, thankfully. Though what does it matter to you? We're kittypets now."

The white cat cleared their throat. "I'm Angelstar, leader of SuburbClan. This is my deputy, Spookythorn. We were wondering if you'd like to join our Clan? It's for kittypets like us who roam during the day."

"Can you give us a moment to discuss it?" Liontuft asked.

"Of course!" Angelstar sat down and started chatting with Spookythorn about the weather.

The family of four huddled in a circle. "I say we join," Liontuft began. "I know you want to be a kittypet, Featherkit, but I want you to be a warrior. Would you like to have both?"

"Both is good!"

"Squirrelcall, Bloomwhisker, what about you two?" Liontuft asked.

The two mollies nodded. The family all turned to face Angelstar.

"We'll join!" Liontuft called out.

"Wonderful! Follow me to our camp." Angelstar began walking, and Spookythorn and the family followed them across twolegplace and thunderpath, into the forest and to the clearing. Though LaurelClan's camp had been in an urban area, SuburbClan's camp had the same homey feeling to it despite the greenery.

"It's very cozy here," said Bloomwhisker.

"Thank you!" Angelstar replied. "I worked hard on making this clearing into a camp." They turned to the family. "I never did get your names, did I?"

The former LaurelClan cats introduced themselves, and how they were related to each other.

"Three warriors and a kit," commented Spookythorn. "Though you look pretty big for a kit."

"I'm six moons old!" Featherkit exclaimed. "Liontuft says I'm old enough to be an apprentice now!"

Angelstar wiggled excitedly. "Our first apprenticeship! Liontuft, would you like to speak with me in the leader's den so we can decide who will be the best mentor for your son?"

Liontuft dipped his head. "I would be honored." The two cats disappeared beneath a tree's roots.

"You three can go make yourself at home in the warrior's den." Spookythorn gestured to a large bush that had a snowless hollow beneath it. "I'll come get you when it's time for Featherkit to be apprenticed."

Squirrelcall, Bloomwhisker, and Featherkit headed to the shelter of the warrior's den, and sat in silence, eagerly awaiting Angelstar and Liontuft's return. It wasn't long before the pair returned. Angelstar stood on top of a mound of dirt, and Liontuft gestured for the trio to come over. They came and sat in a semi-circle around the leader.

"So! Liontuft told me about these ceremony things that you do when there's a rank change or whatever. I think they're super neat, so I've decided to adopt them for SuburbClan! Featherkit, step forward please." Angelstar waited for the young tom to reach the base of the mound, then continued. "Featherkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Featherpaw. Your mentor will be Squirrelcall. I hope Squirrelcall will pass down all she knows on to you." They gestured for the older molly to come join them at the mound, and when she did they continued. "Squirrelcall, you've been with Featherpaw for his whole life, and you have unique skills you've learned from your former Clan. You will be the mentor of Featherpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Featherpaw."

Featherpaw and Squirrelcall touched noses, and Bloomwhisker was first to call out his new name. Liontuft followed, and then a confused Spookythorn joined in as well. This was a new beginning to a new life for Bloomwhisker and her family.

A moon had passed since Angelstar had discovered SuburbClan territory, and the Clan had already increased from one cat to six. Not only had they coaxed Spookythorn into joining, but they'd also had four bona fide Clan cats join in as well. The newcomers had been settling into the balance of Clan and kittypet life quite well, and Featherpaw was doing well, training with his aunt.

As Angelstar walked alongside the thunderpath on their way home, they noticed a pair of their friends chatting on a porch. Ash was speaking, and Tiger was listening attentively. Ash - or Ashley as she was technically named, but nobody, not even her housefolk called her that any more - was a known gossip, and the young tom Tiger was incredibly gullible, so Angelstar had no guilt over interrupting.

"Tiger! Ash! How are you guys doing?" Angelstar bounded over. "I haven't seen you two in a while."

Ash shifted guiltily. Before she could speak, Tiger piped up. "We were just talking about you! Ash said you're never in twolegplace any more, and that you're probably planning to leave your housefolk to be a stray. Is that true?"

Angelstar laughed. How could Ash be so close to, yet so far from the truth? "Not quite," they said when they finally finished laughing. "Do you remember the loner who passed through here a moon and a bit ago? She talked about the Clans that live in the wild."

Having regained her composure, Ash replied, "Yeah, I remember her. Pretty interesting stuff. What about it?"

"Are you leaving your housefolk to join a Clan?" Tiger interjected.

"No, I'm not leaving my housefolk. But I've founded a Clan of my own, for kittypets. During the day we act as a Clan, and at night we return to our housefolk. We've been at it for about a moon now, there's six of us including me and we're all having a blast!" Angelstar quickly explained how a Clan works to the two kittypets.

"I wanna join!" exclaimed Tiger. "Can I?"

"Of course! You'll need to pick out a Clan name for yourself by adding a second part to your name first though."

He tilted his head thoughtfully for a moment. "I'll be Tigerstrike! I've seen the tigers on TV and how they pounce, I wanna be just like them!"

Angelstar turned to face Ash. "Will you be joining us too?"

Ash scoffed. "Of course! I'm not going to be left out. I'll be Ashglow, because my eyes glow like embers."

"Wonderful! We should all head home now, since it's getting late, but tomorrow I'll show you the way to SuburbClan territory." The three cats parted ways, and Angelstar spent the rest of the journey home with a new spring in their step.
