Both of Rowan's parents were crows of Bearbrass. As a child, it was clear he had inherited their talents for mediumship. Rowan had a natural aptitude for it, excelled in his classes as a hatchling, but his parents were only ever critical of his work. This made him self-conscious of his work and any wary of making mistakes. Desiring to be praised and not scolded, Rowan saught attention from his teachers, who were more positive in his life than either his mother or father, whenever possible. The young boy would try to outshine his classmates and talk about his 'wins' or how others could have been better whenever his parents were around. Rowan was the sort of toxic friend who always needed to be better than everyone- even his friends. When he became a fledgeling, the instructor was the best influence Rowan had on his work. The praise he was given was earned with hard work. During a day of training, Rowan's mentor was injured in an accident. Though they recovered, that day shook Rowan more than he would ever admit out loud. He saw what had happened as his fault for making a mistake. As a result, his confidence plummeted. Instead of being humbled and becoming kinder to the other Crows, however, Rowan covered up his insecurities by bolstering his ego and show-boating even more than before, hiding his fear of a single misstep. His goal is for the nest to be rebuilt the same as it was before because he understood the structure, knew he could succeed with it. A new structure would mean he would no longer be as good as he needs to be in order to protect people.

Dahlia was a Senior Crow of Bearbrass before her death, working in the Bond-Breaker Department. She came into the line of work because she was orphaned as a child and since the Nest took in orphans and trained those who showed promise to be Red Crows, Dahlia was set on the path at a young age.

In her work for the Nest, Dahlia came to disagree with the practices of the Red Crows and what Bearbrass stood for. After she became a ghost, Dahlia came to distrust the Crows and begrudged them for their roles in her death seventy years ago. Her spouse was possessed by a poltergeist, stabbed their son, and then attacked Dahlia. She did her best to save her son but to no avail. The phantom partially blames the Nest for her death and that of her son for not prioritizing the hunt for the murderous geist. She had asked to lead an investigation to capture him on several occasions but was denied each time.

Dahlia was surprised she came back as a Banshee. Firstly, due to the fact she had been taught that Crows didn't leave ghosts behind when they died. And secondly, because she had died in excruciating pain which is known to be a factor in poltergeists' deaths. The only idea she has as to why that could be is based on the legend of Banshees from the old country: It was believed that, before the Crows' alliance, they were considered harbingers of the death of a loved one. Since Dahlia had tried desperately to prevent her son's death, she assumes that had something to do with what she became in her second life.

The ex-Crow has spent the last seven decades working in the archives, hidden away from anyone who might question why a phantom was wearing a Crow's cloak. When the Spectral Riots broke out and the Nest fell into chaos, Dahlia took her chance and destroyed her binding image before making her escape. She has been hiding from the Crows for two months now.

Flo was raised within the nest of Bearbrass taken in as a child with nowhere else to go and only a simple gold ring to remember her parents by. Named at the nest and surrounded by peers Florence was a fledgeling by thirteen years of age and assigned to the bond-breaker department. Under her mentor, Flo became an adept bounty hunter and skilled crow hunting down runaway ghosts and running around the nest as a gopher. Though she had the drive and competitive nature to excel and rise in the ranks Flo was also consistently taken advantage of, even her own mentor used her accomplishments to get out of the grunt department leaving Flo on her own. That betrayal of the one person she was supposed to rely on turned the fledgeling off from the bureaucracy of the Crows. Rather than waste her time rising through meaningless ranks Flo instead focused on the task at hand, tracking down rouge ghosts who left their bonds or wreak havoc in the city. The only reason she excelled at her job was personal satisfaction, she didn't care what the other Crows thought of her as a forever grunt or their distaste for her attitude towards the hierarchy. Four years into her being a Crow, Florence stopped receiving fledgelings to train, it seemed that they no longer trusted her to train the new recruits. Often sent alone on missions with little backup Flo has taken it up as a challenge, no matter what they throw at her she'll get the job done. As a Hatchling, she was raised in the belief that she was supposed to protect the city and despite all the bureaucracy Flo still believes in that goal.

Alistair is the son of two well known Crows (his father was a Senior Crow and his mother is a Head Crow in another Nest). When he was younger he wanted nothing more to follow in his parents footsteps and dreamed about becoming High Crow over his own Nest one day. Alistair never bonded with a spirit. He attempted but their connection was never strong enough to last. This made him an easy target to some of the other Hatchlings and Fledgelings growing up, but he was told by his mother that a true bond took time and one day he would have his very own. He worked hard and was noticed which got him a promotion to Jr. Crow faster than anyone else in his class. Due to not having a bonded spirit he went into research rather than fieldwork which was just fine with him. Spending time in the stacks of the library is where his views on the Crows started to become strained. Reading over old reports he was able to see more behind the curtain that he was supposed to.

This new view point made his rose colored glasses fall off hard. The institution that he grew up hearing was so great and was needed had some truly dark secrets. The more he read the more he realized that things desperately needed to be changed. When he got wind of the rift that was forming he found himself siding with the anti-Crow side. Unlike most of the party he doesn't want the whole institution destroyed but rather be recreated.
