i do wish more people got involved like the other years, it’s such a hard time little things like this are just a great escape. but i have noticed that there’s not even many people online anymore use to be over 1000 at one time.
but i will always come back for as long as i can, such a fun event love reading everyone’s stories

Even if we end up with a smaller playerbase, I think we are definitely a lot more familiar and friendly with each other than we ever were with 1k people playing (which was a literal madhouse at times, I have the 2011-era threads to prove it). I totally get that its disheartening to see less people joining, I feel that too, but I suppose I also like to look on both sides of things. Like if in previous years you never really had time to read the stories in the PMs you got cause there are just so many, or you were always rushing through answering them. Less PMs means its ok to take your time a bit with them, really read through them and take more than a glance at the dressup

i second this! my first ever time participating in lolo was in 2012, and i was fairly young at the time, so the overwhelming amount of trick-or-treaters made it hard for me to get into it.. i'm way more comfortable with the 300-400 player range, tbh, since reading every story and seeing the costumes is something i really enjoy. for me, the treats are just the icing on top - as opposed to the main point of the game. not that there's anything wrong with people joining just for treats, of course, but i really like seeing the same people come to my "house" every year. seeing some new faces mixed in is really nice, too, and the end result is... well - this.

i also agree that it's probably partially due to the player base getting older and growing up, and the new gen being more involved in instant messenger platforms.. sad to see, sometimes, but the world never stops moving on to the next thing. i'm just going to cherish this for as long as it lasts, and hope it's a while (:

In y'all experience, is it normal to be tricked more often with a smaller wishlist? Cuz I've sent out maybe 15 and have already gotten 3 tricks back and in all my years of playing it hasn't been that much ^^"

Either way tho, the users who have been treating me have been more or less very kind and I've made sure to state in my trade rules that I appreciate any kindness and I understand that I have a small wishlist (:

And does anyone else also just love treating? Idk, around this time of year I tend to get super generous with my gifts ^^ I mean I love gifting anyway so this is just another excuse to gift but maybe cuz we're getting closer to Christmas?? Or maybe it's just me haha

Edit** (to below me) honestly you make a great point and I never thought of that xD it's true tho cuz I also only tend to gift wishlist even if it's items, if I "trick" someone, it's items, not pets lol like that's just how I like to gift I guess

Many people tend to only gift WL gifts, so if you have a smaller or rarer WL they may trick you because of that. I know a lot of people either just don't know what to give if they don't have anything on your WL, or don't want to give non-WL because it will likely just be thrown into a trade folder, and some people have a problem with that. Several even state in their signatures that they only give WL gifts and will trick you if they don't have something on your WL. I've never dealt with it personally because I have several hoards, but it does seem to be pretty common that those will a smaller WL get more tricks.

i would suggest putting in whatever you have written in your trade rules at the end of your story! that way it's guaranteed that the person sees it. me personally, when i'm treating people, i don't look at their trade rules since i'm just giving them a gift.

at the end of my story, i have this in a smaller font!

This year I have noticed being tricked more frequently because they didn't have anything on my WL. More so than past years, although I also don't remember as many people explaining why they Tricked me so that might be the difference also.

I love treating too. I give an pet and an item and check their WL first, but if I don't have anything on their WL I just give them something random I have multiples of. Personally I don't mind if they trade it away later, in fact I hope they do so they can get something they want better.

I love treating real life Trick-or-Treaters too. If I had the money I'd go way overboard, lol.

It really irks me that people with lights off keep visiting me expecting a gift, which I always do. Lol
But then peeps with lights on trick me? Like, seriously, a wee treat isn't too much to ask .... is it?

as a new lolo player, regarding giving tricks.. I do only gift wishlist, because I don't think I have anything I could give that they could trade away for something they like better? especially when I check what they have to see what they might like, and I notice they already have the pets I was going to give them sitting in their trading folder. but maybe i'm too stingy... hm.... I also check if I have items they want.

When I do send out a trick, I try to still make it fun for the other person or explain why I've given a trick. I said in my first post here that I hadn't written a story to send trick or treaters knocking on my door and would do that next year but... well, i ended up writing one anyway lol so i modify it to suit the person i'm tricking. it's not as good as a gift, but i hope it's still enjoyable!

Lolo is very much a learning experience for me and I've changed the way I do things several times, although the first week of October isn't even over yet :'D I'm having fun though!

i hadn't thought of it quite like that tbh :0 but that's a good point!! if somebody gives me a treat, I'll at least try my best to give them one back if they knock on my door to keep the spirit going. but irl, there's no candy wishlist either, so maybe i should approach it a bit more like that hahaha

For those who are getting a lot of tricks, maybe you could add some things to your WL that are more common, but you wouldn't mind having doubles of? I do that myself even just for trading. A lot of the pets that I'm looking for are old and rare. I don't expect people to offer those to me for a some commons/uncommons/recent rares. So I add more common pets that that I either like, or I think they'll retrade decently...things like lions, staff pets, etc. It makes it easier for people to figure out what I might want and offer things on my WL. I imagine it would work well to get you fewer tricks too.

Personally, I don't limit myself to WL treats. If I have something on their WL, great! But I still send gifts even if I don't. I know that it's a bummer to keep getting tricks just because you have a small WL. I figure that even if they don't want it, they're probably going to be sending treats to others since they're participating in LOLO, so can use it as fodder to gift other people who will want it.
