the young she-cat darted through the trees, gasping heavily as she tried to breathe. she didn't know where she was going and she frankly couldn't care less. as long as she got away. as long as she survived. she could hear the undergrowth behind her snapping and breaking as a larger force barreled after her.

she could feel her heart leaping up into her throat as she dared a quick glance over her shoulder. the large maw of the biggest dog she had ever seen was mere inches away from her tail. before she could turn forward, the earth beneath her paws disappeared and she plunged forward.

with a screech, the young she-cat splashed into the water, thrashing wildly as she tried to fight her way back up to the surface. sputtering, she resurfaced and looked around wildly. the dog was peering down into the large cavern-like hole in the ground, an annoyed look on it's face. the dog backed away and disappeared. the cat sighed in relief, finally taking a moment to look at her surroundings. she had fallen into a water-filled sinkhole. she felt a small current tugging on her fur, giving her the assumption that the sinkhole lead into other caverns beneath the water.

the young she-cat froze at the voice. faint silhouettes appeared on a ledge poking out of the water, slowly they winded their way along deep grooves in the side of the grounds-walls. she watched as they reached the top and disappeared.

Ghosts of the Sunken Earth, otherwise known as Ghosts, were founded when Shaded Willow fell into a sinkhole and almost drowned. She was visited by members of the Above, who guided her to a safe pathway out of the sinkhole. They gave her visions of other groups who built families from nothing and urged her to do the same. Shaded Willow decided to make her home in the deep grooves of the sinkhole, wanting to conquer her fear of the place she almost died in.

Their territory is a lush forest surrounding the sinkhole. The forest gives them plenty of hiding places during dangerous times in the year. Most of the year, the clan lives in the grooves/caves that branch off from the main sinkhole. During flooding seasons, the group will move out of the grooves/caves and live in the surrounding forest. Swimming in the sinkhole can be very dangerous, as the sinkhole connects to many cave systems and other sinkholes that eventually go out to sea. It's easy to get stuck underground and drown.

This clan is based purely off of strength. There is only a leader and no deputy. The leader only has one life, as it's believed that leaders with multiple lives are weak. Instead of being chosen through ancestors or voting or inheritance, the leader is chosen simply based on being the strongest cat in the Clan. The current leader can be challenged at any point in their leadership by anyone of warrior age. If you win the challenge, you become the new leader. If you lose the challenge, you are shunned from the Clan. If the current leader dies, then anyone can come forward and fight for the position. Medicine cats are allowed to have kits as long as they aren't the head medicine cat. The strongest cats in the clan will eat first, while the weaker cats will pick through what's leftover or catch their own food.

Instead of believing in Starclan or the Dark Forest, the Ghosts believe in the Above and the Below. They work in a similar fashion to the Starclan and Dark Forest cats.

Kits are called Little (suffix) (i.e. Little Wren) and get their full suffix as an adult (i.e Wren Beak)
Leaders will have an official “title” prefix that portrays their strength (i.e. Wren Beak would become Proud Wren) but can still be called their suffix or adult name within the clan.

Ranks
Leader -- Champion (the strongest cat in the group)
Medicine Cat -- Healer (takes care of the sick and injured)
Warriors -- Warriors (patrol, hunt and train their younger generations)
Apprentices -- Apprentices (training to become a warrior)
Matriarch -- New rank (takes care of the mothers and their kits, adopts orphaned or abandoned kits. Is often called Mother by everyone)
Queens -- Mothers (births and raises kits)
Kits -- kits (don’t interact with anyone outside of their family until they reach 2 moons old. Even then, they won’t be allowed to actively interact with other ghosts until they’re 3 moons. Mothers have been known to attack and even kill other ghosts that try to interact before the 2 moon mark)
Elders -- elders (100+ moons. It's rare for a Ghosts to reach this age)
