Surrounded by hundreds of cats, Locustpaw had never felt so utterly alone.

Ice Cream scanned the gathering before nodding to the rest of the cats and trotting off to where the other deputies were chatting. He was surprised that he was so glad to be back, though maybe it wasn't that surprising. The traditional cats were like a breath of fresh air after Cocoaclan, and knowing both made him like his clan even more (though he'd never tell Pizzastar such a thing).

Groundbeef trotted into the gathering with the self-assured air of a new warrior. She was bearing a new name with pride, and nothing could go wrong! As long as she didn't walk into anyone, or step on anyone, or get into any fights. She would be fine!
She settled down to sit in an empty-ish place, then puffed up her chest to look more important.
(While to outsiders she looks about as silly as could be, doing the cat equivalent of casually flexing while leaning against a wall)

She could feel her joints aching but the excitement of a gathering was too much to slow her down. It had been years since she'd come to one of these, and she'd wanted to experience a gathering again! She smiled at seeing a younger molly with glittering eyes wandering around and looking at everything with awe.
"Why hello there! May I walk with you for a bit? My name is Baconbitz, from Cocoaclan. It would be a delight if I could chat with someone who doesn't want to just sit around, if I sit down now, I probably won't be able to stand back up until it's time to leave!" Bacon's eyes crinkled with the joke. She knew she wasn't that old, no matter how her legs felt after the walk here.

Birthdaycake's blue eyes twinkled as they looked around the gathering. Only a few months ago, they were living in a twoleg city, feasting on trash, and now they were surrounded by other cats. With confidence, they strode forward towards a queen they saw who looked rather bored.
"Hello! I'm Birthdaycake, do you mind if I join you?" they asked, hoping not to startle the other cat.

Creampaw bouned happily into the clearing. Tealeaf had stayed at the clan with Keylime and the mess of kittens, but she had shooed Creampaw off to have fun, as there would be plenty of time to care for injured cats and crabby kittens when she was an older, wiser medicine cat like Tealeaf.
She'd been meaning to stick by Groundbeef, but she'd gotten distracted and now was looking for someone else to play with.

Barkbrush trotted boldly into the clearing, looking to flirt with someone. They weren't as nervous as Starearth, though they still gave the gathering a cursory sniff and look before strolling boldly in. This time, they were hoping to make new friends, maybe even permanent ones?

Rookstar lifted his tail and yowled, signaling his Clan to tell them that they could enter the Gathering. The cats streamed around him, their pelts brushing his as soft as a feather hitting the ground, the drum of their paws soothing his mind. The familiarity of his Clan was quickly gone, and he was left to wander among the cats. His was one of the first groups to arrive, but he had plans. He was the Roi, and his job was to maintain relationships with the surrounding Clans. He spotted a familiar cat, Cypressstar of KeyClan, and he purred as he approached him, calling a greeting ahead of him. “Cypressstar! I expect your Clan has been doing well?” he asked, remembering Richterscreech’s short-lived fling with Deerdash. “Is Deerdash doing well with her Clowns? I know Confièrekit has adapted nicely to his new home.”

Rage boiled within the Dame as Rookstar signaled the Clan to enter the Gathering. That should be her up there, not that spineless coward who broke her heart. As she brushed by him, she slipped her claws into the top of his paw and dashed towards an unfamiliar cat. Their scent was a strange one, not a Clan she had encountered before, but she must appear as if she had been friends with them for their entire life. “Hello,” she purred, sitting down and neatly draping her tail around her paws. She must look presentable of course, and so she smoothed her ruffled chest fur and shot a glare at Rookstar from the corner of her eye. He was paying her no attention and chatting up a storm with Cypressstar, and her heart lurched. She missed the always bright side of him, but she smothered the longing down and turned back to the newcomer. “My name is Chasmstar, of ChessClan. Who might you be?”

Richterscreech nodded and smiled. Harespring was a respectable name for a tom of such high position. “I can smell the new-ness on you. Is this by chance your first Gathering?” he smiled, his eyes crinkling at the edges in a way that suggested he smiled a lot.

Wolfwhiskers sucked in a quick breath and dipped his head respectfully. “He was a courageous tom, and StarClan gained a great cat. He will be mourned by many in my Clan,” he whispered, reaching a tail out in a comforting fashion to Pumpkinseed. He felt sorry for him, but he wasn’t the best at condolences.

Faonpaw stuck close to Wolfwhiskers until he began approaching a cat that smelled of BearClan. “I’m going to find myself another apprentice to talk to,” she chirped and dashed off without waiting for a response. She could feel him staring after her, and she spun to look back at him before colliding with an apprentice. She slid onto her belly and forced herself up, whirling around to stare into the strange cat. “I’m Faonpaw. I was training to be a warrior, but now I’m studying medicine,” she purred, eyes bright as she studied the stranger. “What’s your name?” she asked, leaning forward to sniff them. It wasn’t a Clan scent she knew, but it was one she’d smelled on other cats returning from the Gathering before. The name of the Clan was on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn’t get it to form into a full word.

Ourspaw couldn’t help but smile at Cherrypaw’s kind demeanor. “First Gathering, you say? I could show you some great hiding places! I’m from ChessClan, and this is also my first Gathering, but my sister came and told me of all the best places to get into trouble,” he chuckled, remembering how excited Loutrepaw had been when she’d returned from her first Gathering. Cherrypaw seemed like the kind of tom Ourspaw could get along with, he hoped.

Oiseaupaw’s jaw dropped at the news Quakepaw, no, Quakestone, delivered. “That’s amazing!” he gasped. “I can’t wait to get my cavalier name, though that’s going to be a while. This leaf-bare is proving to be a tough opponent,” he chuckled, but his thoughts trailed back to earlier words. He felt his chest warm at the thought of Quakestone hoping he would be here, and he grinned. It seemed like he had become better friends with her than he first thought.

Nuitpelt stepped warily into the Gathering, his eyes scraping the ground quickly as he searched for any familiar faces. He spotted one cat that his eyes kept dragging back to, but he didn’t know them. He was confused, and so he took a step towards them. “My name is Nuitpelt, and something about you seems almost familiar. Who are you?” he asked quietly, his eyes widening as it became clearer. The cat reminded him more and more of Tacheterdapple as the minutes passed, and he gasped quietly. “Quakekit?” he whispered, wondering if it really was the littermate that still lived in TwistedClan.

Peuwobble noticed the strangeness to Sightblaze’s eyes, and they automatically recognized him to be blind. Their thoughts drifted to Whimbreleyes and Lumièrekit, but they shook their head to clear the thoughts. They shouldn’t compare this stranger to cats they knew. “I’m from ChessClan,” they said simply, eyes traveling from Sightblaze to Phirozashatter and back again. “I actually have heard of the Celestial Beings! Richterscreech fathered some kits in your Clan,” they chuckled before adding, “though he seems to have fathered some kits in nearly every clan now.”

indentmerlinsong led his apprentice through the gathering until they found a spot to settle among the other healers from many other clans. over so many moons, merlinsong had come to get to know many of the other medicine cats, so his attention was piqued when a stranger approached him, and he smiled warmly at the other tom. "hello, it's very nice to meet you. i don't believe i've ever heard of pillarclan. you'd have to tell me all about it," he greeted openly. he nudged solsticepaw gently, shooing his apprentice away. "go on and allow us to talk without you hovering there, solsticepaw. don't let us bore you," he urged, grinning when solsticepaw huffed dramatically. when she had gone, merlinsong turned his attention back to greenday. "now, then, it's nice to meet you. i'm merlinsong, and my apprentice and i are from highgarden."

indentotterfur felt so at home with fadedsun, and he was momentarily overcome with the feeling of warmth, resonating within him as a type of home that he had never felt before. he beamed broadly and swished his tail across the ground. "of course," otterfur murmured, feeling suddenly shy. "i think you're an amazing cat, fadedsun, and anyone could see that. you're kind, you care about your clan, you have a great sense of humor, and i really am so grateful that we became friends," he said, feeling his pelt flush as the truth spilled out of his mouth. he ducked his head to lap at his chest fur before his eyes widened and he looked up at fadedsun again. "thank you, that's really kind of you to say." otterfur shuffled his paws and straightened up. "i just want to be good for my clan, to be there for my clanmates and my friends."

indentmapleshadow flashed a small, gentle smile and nodded his acknowledgement to brindlebirch's comments. it warmed her heart to know that the queen considered her a friend as well, and mapleshadow reveled contently in their companionship. "that must be hard, i can't imagine. i've never thought of it that way," she admitted. "i've seen a few of my clanmates grow closer after spending time in the nursery, especially when the kits become friends and grow up together, but we don't have any permanent queens in highgarden," she continued. "i can't imagine how that must feel for you, i'm sorry. but i know what you mean. i've never really felt like i fit in with a lot of my clanmates. like our personalities just don't fit together so well. but i do consider you a friend, and i'm grateful for our meeting, even if it was pretty recent."

"cougarstrike's definitely going to miss me," hollandmarch said, finally settling down across from katara and cedarbranch. "but now it means that i'll be able to go on patrols. and katara said that i might even see you on patrols if they go near vagaryclan. so, don't worry, i'll be around to bother you instead."

"i told him that i'd even help him set up a den by the border, so he'd never have to miss seeing you on a patrol." hollandmarch nodded enthusiastically to katara's soft laugh. "but i also figured that now he might have a chance to visit you in vagaryclan sometime, if you're not as busy. i'm sure tawnyrose wouldn't mind if riverstar didn't have a problem with it."

"i'm sure you'll get it really soon!" quakestone said, nudging her friend gently, meaning to encourage him. "besides, leafbare is a tough time for everyone. the weather is already getting too cold for one of my sisters. she's like my mom - they have really short fur - and she keeps shivering on the dawn patrols," she said before shrugging. "honestly, between you and me, the early patrols are almost enough for me to miss waking up for training."

indentfinn joined the gathering with his usual energy, calling after his sister to follow him, though he knew it was only a matter of time before they lost one another in the tide of the gathering. even still, he knew that vixen was more than capable of taking care of herself, and he knew that cade would likely round them up when squirrelflash decided that it was time for them to return home. however, finn didn't expect for another cat to cross directly into his path, and he bowled directly into them, sending him sprawling sideways, but his blue eyes turned immediately to the ginger cat. "i'm so, so sorry, friend, let me help you," finn said, immediately scrambling to his paws and going to help nudge the other cat up. "i really hope you aren't one of those super-scary warriors, huh? cade said that he'd claw my ears if i started a fight by accident, and i'd really hate to have shredded ears, that doesn't seem like it would be so fun."

indentvixen watched through narrowed eyes as her brother took off through the gathering, racing away and tearing up the ground as he went. she sighed, knowing it would only be a matter of time until cade came dragging finn back and squirrelflash in tow. the last thing their little clan needed was to return back home with an upset cade and a bedraggled finn. so, after waiting several moments without hearing any immediate shouting, vixen decided that she was free to go about her own business, and that was when she happened upon a pretty calico, and she moved over towards her. "it's really nice, huh? i've never seen so many cats before. it's just... it's really crazy to think how many of us clan cats are out there, and it makes me wonder how many of us would ever cross paths without the gatherings."

Bramblingpaw was extremely nervous... yet excited, at the same time. It wasn't a familiar feeling, this fluttering feeling in her stomach. The torbie she-cat nervously asked, eyeing her mentor, "D... Dappledawn?" The older calico mewed, looking at her, "Yes, Bramblingpaw?" Bramblingpaw swallowed and asled, "May... May I go see if there's any apprentices, perhaps my age, among the medicine cats please?" Dappledawn purred, understanding her apprentice's intent at once, "Of course, dear. Don't stray too far though," she added, a warning tone creeping up in her soft mew, "I need to be able to fetch you when Carrotstar signals for us to leave, all right?" Bramblingpaw nodded, "Of course!" and slowly padded away. The torbie had never seen so many cats in her life - and that was saying something, SeaClan was huge - and though it made her afraid at first, excitement had taken control now.

Walking along the edge of the clearing where she smelled the scebt of herbs on cats, Bramblingpaw bumped into what felt like an older cat... and looked up to see that this one was definitely an older cat. But she had introduced herself as a 'paw? Blinking in surprise, Bramblingpaw meowed, "I'm... I'm Bramblingpaw, of SeaClan. It's my first moon as a medicine cat apprentice, and my first moon out of the nursery," she added, looking down at her paws, "but I'm determined to make new friends!" After a moment, she asked, "Oh... ChessClan? What's it like in your Clan, Faonpaw?"

Arumwhisper was determined to bring her newfound friend, Quickflow, out of her shell. It was quite ironic, she mused silently, as she herself was a quite introverted cat, but Quickflow was... worse. Somehow. Glancing at her silver tabby friend beside her, she mewed, "Come on, let's go." Quickflow nodded mutely, perhaps left speechless in terror, seeing the sheer volume of cats in one area, and the two she-cats made their way through the clearing. Arumwhisper then bumped into what looked like a mass of orange fur and she apologized, thinking it was her father... until she saw it wasn't. Apologizing again, the white she-cat exclaimed, "Oh, StarClan, are you all right? Hope you aren't hurt?" Her significantly bigger and fluffier companion watched the scene silently for a moment, not sure how to respond in a situation like this, then squeaked, "I should have warned her to be more careful, sir. I hope you are okay!"

xxxsunstar locked eyes on a fawn tom that had the nervousness of a new apprentice. yes, he thought, i need to help this poor chap. he flicked his tail to his clanmates who dispersed a bit reluctantly, he brought a ragtag crew this month. to be fair, they didn't get out much and socializing, he found, wasn't their best skill. "sunstar,'" he introduced and quite startled the stranger in front of him, "first time? it's our third. or maybe forth? twistedclan rarely attends these things anyway. too much effort to check back with everyone and chat sometimes!"

xxxfrostthorn twitched the base of his tail. ever since it had been torn, he missed the feeling of hiding his paws underneath of it. he felt vulnerable. he didn't like that feeling.

xxxquakescreech sniffed the cat that greeted him with such enthusiasm. "not so much as a kit anymore!" he racked his brain trying to figure out who the hell this solid black cat was. he smelled a tad familiar but was certain they haven't seen each other in a very long time. "quakescreech," he corrected, hoping to get a name out of the stranger. but he called me kit, quakescreech thought very hard. "oh, oh! you're one of his kits living in chessclan!" he wasn't sure who he meant by 'his' as both him and dawnpelt had never met either one of their fathers and Softdapple seemed like a distant aunt if anything.

xxxsilverstem slightly trembled. she hadn't been outside of twistedclan's main camp in over fifty moons; she was quite content raising kittens in the nursery. why sunstar thought it was a good idea to bring her was beyond her. she quickly scented a soft milk coming from one of the cats nearby and quickly gravitated towards her. silverstem could always recognize the smell of a nursery. she simply sat by the queen for a while before speaking, "i'm silverstem," she said shyly, "it's my first gathering, sorry i'm not too interesting."

More than anything, pumpkinseed wanted to pull away from the tom’s touch. He hated the suffocating sympathies he’d been swarmed with lately. Both of his moms and his mentor had perished in the fight, and he was always spoken to like a kit, gentle tones everywhere. But he accepted this gesture of condolences.
“Yes,” he sighed “it’s been hard with just myself, especially since my training wasn’t done when he died.”

the tom forced the purr down. joy thudded against his chest as he realized his calculations were perfect.
"well, i would hope so!" he laughed "considering i'm him! hello, darling, my name is nimbuscurl. what's yours?"

The Tom was so absorbed with his mate he forgot the Tom standing by. “Ah, yes, sorry.” He chuckled “Ferretwhsiker, how is high garden doing? Is otterfur alright after hearing about the battle?”

The queen jumped slightly as she saw two cats approach her at once. “Oh, hello!” She purred “This is my first gathering of a sort as well, I just had my kits a few moons ago. It’s nice to get out of camp for a while. Do you come from far away?”
