I'm convinced Ruby enjoys giving me emotional whiplash;
one minute I'm excited for her Embark results in early October, and the next minute she needs surgery.
Honestly, this dog.
Anyway, only a small mammary tumour so things should go pretty well. She's going for her bloods next week, to make sure it's safe to put her under, and then she'll have surgery when those results come back, and then I guess after that we'll come to know if it's a problematic one or not.
It's kind of funny to me, remembering how fast I said yes when the vet asked if surgery was something I was considering. Like, yes??? Who would say no? I'd sell my kidney for this dog. (I was so 'yes. definitely. surgery. asap' that I didn't even consider asking for a quote, so that's going to make the next vet visit a bit awkward)
I had a bit of a stress moment when I thought about it earlier, so I had to treat myself to a canine spa day (and by treat myself I mean Ruby hated it of course but it made me feel good) so she may have an impending surgery but at least she was washed, smelling of apples, brushed, trimmed, teeth cleaned and claws filed. It's a trick so my brain goes, 'Ah, she's so clean and soft! A clean dog is a healthy dog'. Maybe then it was a sign that she --no more than an hour later-- found herself belly deep in mud... Dogs, eh.

So sorry to hear this and will keep my fingers crossed for both of you.
It's sad that a lot of people won't put the money out for surgery. And a lot of people who would like to be able to do that for their dog just can't. I'm so thankful I opted for insurance when I did. Also there's always the question of risk, especially if the dog is older. I know with Chloe's heart failure I live in fear of something like that happening because of the risks involved.
And I'm like you. Kidney, heart, throw myself in front of a bus, whatever my little girl needs. I was heartbroken when I had to make the decision to let her go blind because the risk of surgery for her cataracts was too great.
Sorry your spa day didn't work out, hopefully her antics gave you a much needed laugh though. Hang in there!
