➵ Demitra Sparks of District Three
➵ Location: Cornucopia island
➵ Tagged: Unconscious Zoe
Once her job was done, Demitra settled down next to Zoe's unconscious body to rest. Peaceful silence had fallen over the Cornucopia island, but Demitra dared not sleep. She clutched a knife in each hand even now. Careers were evil and horrible in her eyes, but the entire wolfpack of six would definitely make noise swimming to the island. Right now, she was more worried about other, quieter tributes.
Or worse, mutts. What if those huge abominations with snapping jaws could push themselves on land? Demitra hoped this idea was just a figment of her wild District Three imagination. If it came true, well they'd both be fish food.
➵ Eden Beauregard of District One
➵ Location: Sienna's temporary camp
➵ Tagged: Chaska, Sienna, Jay
Eden smiled at his District Seven friend's enthusiastic response. It warmed his heart to see her so happy, especially after all the horrible things she'd been through in this arena. Sienna deserved a break, a warm dinner, and (of course) a big hug.
"I'm glad you got a little sleep. I hope you're able to rest more later," He said softly, setting the sunny yellow backpack down in the grass. The mud covering it was beginning to flake off, revealing the underlying color of a sunflower. It really suited its owner, sunny Sienna with her smile that chased away his nightmares, although he lacked the courage to admit that out loud.
Sienna opened a tin of bread, explaining they were herb rolls, a sponsor present from the mentors of Districts Two and Seven. Eden felt something like a warm glow in his heart as Sienna insistently put the gift into Chaska's hands. Despite all she'd lost, her first instinct was still to give to others. She and Chaska were some of the most kind and selfless people he'd ever encountered.
To Eden's surprise, Sienna then pulled him aside for some sort of special message. He wondered what it was, but she soon explained. She was giving him her tribute token. Before Eden could stop her, she'd slipped the quaint wooden ring onto his hand. It fit so snugly on his little finger. With a warm smile, he examined the hand-carved ring with care.
"Thank you, I..." He looked up at Sienna. Through a mist of grateful tears, she looked like an angel with a halo of moonlight. It was a beautiful night, the perfect night to hunt depraved criminals. If Eden didn't return from this hunt, he wanted Sienna to know how he felt.
"I can't express how much your kindness means to me. Even when I was a stranger, you showed me nothing but trust and support. You fought for us. And fought beside us. So even though you're from District Seven, you will always be an honorary Career to me." Taking Sienna's hands, he clasped them close to his chest, close enough to feel his heartbeat.
"This ring is beautiful," He murmured, turning it over. "Just like your heart."
With that, Eden pulled Sienna into his arms. One more hug before he had to leave. He held her tight, dreading the moment they'd have to part ways. If this was the last time they saw each other, he wanted to leave with nothing but happy memories.
