Suddenly, Benji was gone, she heard a whistle, then a yell. "BENJI!" She screeched in horror, turning around and rushing to him. Seeing him on the ground, the snake mutt dead, but he didn't look so good... "No!" Juniper exclaimed, rushing to him and kneeling next to him. "No... Benji what happened?" Juniper asked, wrapping her arms around him. What had the mutt done? She should've stayed and fought with him... She shouldn't have kept running...

indentationBenji removed his hand from his arm to show her the fang. "Juniper..it burns..The venom. I think I'm dying." He spoke softly, tears welling up in his eyes. "Remove it..Please. It's too late to save me. I don't know how much time I have. I-I can tell its a slower venom. I could die in a few mintues or a few hours..."

Juniper gasped. "No! No! Benji..." Tears streamed down Juniper's face. Benji wasn't dying... he would be okay... "You can't die... You can't..." Raven... Melanie... not Benji. They couldn't all die... Forcing herself to stay calm, Juniper found the rest of their supplies. "Okay.." She breathed, shakily, wincing as she gently pulled the fang out of Benji's arm. Then she quickly used the rest of their ointment onto the wound. Juniper knew it wouldn't work... this was venom not infection... but she couldn't let him die. She would do anything. Surely their mentor hadn't forgotten them? Would they be sent a gift? But there was no familiar chime in the sky. "Benji... I...I love you." Juniper breathed, burying her head into his shoulder. "You can't die.."

indentationBenji screamed in pain as the fang was removed. Tears falling freely from his eyes. The pain, the burning. He was suffering. "I..love you too Juniper. I'll see you again..Okay? Right now. I'm here. I'm still breathing..Lets enjoy these moment..My last moments..Okay? For me...Please?" He pleaded. The pain in his arm couldn't be compared to the pain in his heart right now. In this moment, he knew he was going to lose Juniper. Screw the games, Juniper is all that mattered. Benji completely sat on the ground, looking up at Juniper for her to join him. "I may be dying, princess. But I'll still be here." He spoke gently and pointed to her heart. It was cheesy but he hoped it would calm her down.

Juniper wiped away her tears, she had to stay strong... but how? She managed to smile when Benji said that he loved her too. "Okay... okay..." She murmured, sniffling. He would be in her heart... Juniper felt the tears coming on again, so she found Benji's hand and squeezed it tightly. "Thank you..." Juniper murmured, "For saving my life... countless times..." It was hard to get the words out, but she needed to tell him how much he meant to her. "I wish I knew you sooner... back in seven... you didn't have to help me... you didn't have to..." die for me. Was what Juniper wanted to say next, but she couldn't. She couldn't seem to be able to talk through her tears anymore.

indentationBenji smiled through his tears. "I wish I wouldn't have been so judgemental when we were back in seven..Hey don't mention it! I did what I had to..to protect you and Melanie.." At the end of his sentence, he started coughing. It was horrible sounding, suddenly a black plem came up. He was visibly getting weaker. "Well there goes my chance to kiss you goodbye." He chuckled looking at the gross substance on the ground. "I love you Juniper..Please..Try to win..For Seven..For me..For Melanie.." His voice is now raspy. His movements slower. The venom was causing his heart to beat out of his chest. It was getting closer to his heart, the venom. It was going at a faster rate now. His throat felt like it was closing in. Benji had a bitter taste in his mouth. "Juni-..." Was all he got out before he start to seize. Black foam bubbling out of his mouth. Suddenly all at once it stopped. He fell completely limp and the foam rolled out of his mouth. He was gone. It happened faster than expected. His pain finally ended.

Juniper watched with fear as her love began to deteriorate before her eyes. "Goodbye Benji... I love you..." She breathed, leaning forward and planting a kiss on Benji's forehead. She hated to see him in so much pain, but it was soon over, he was at peace. But Juniper wasn't. As soon as Benji's body hit the ground a cannon rang through the air, prompting Juniper to let out a terrible screeching sound. "No... no... no... NO!" She sobbed, shaking Benji's limp body as if he would wake up and laugh as if it were all a joke. "Benji! Don't... don't leave me!!!" Juniper's body shook with her sobs and she heard the noise of a Capitol hovercraft descending closer, ready to take him from her. "NO!" Juniper wailed, but it was too late. Benji's last words and horrible coughs rang through her mind as she stumbled through the last of the woods and into the open field. She had left everything except for her dagger, even Benji's axe. Juniper looked up and made eye contact with the girl on top of the cornucopia. Only one of them would make it out, and it had to be Juniper. For Raven, Melanie, and... Benji. So their deaths wouldn't be in vain. "I'm so sorry." Juniper rasped to Hailey. Her throat was dry from screaming. "I didn't think it would come to this... I..." The girl held her dagger tightly in her hand. Could she bring herself to use it? This was a person standing before her... a living person...

Melanie Lana

A flicker of faint light appears besides where Benji’s body once was, and a small sparkly transparent figure appears beside him. She would look over to where Juniper had went, a tear falling out of her eye. She was wishing her the best of luck, it was either her or that other girl, but it was anyone’s game...Pausing, she looked back and spotted Benji, who was now a ghost just like her. Pausing, she walked over to him and tapped him, wiping away her tears first and giving him a faint smile. “...Come on friend...I promise the Afterlife is peaceful...”

hailey could hear the raspy wail from within the forest. the boom of a cannon, and then the capitol hovercraft approaching. suddenly a ragged-looking girl burst through the treeline. they made eye contact, and hailey stood up. the girl's voice was raspy, and she held a dagger in her hand. juniper. hailey looked to her measly slingshot. she'd have to stay distanced if she was going to survive.

she swallowed a lump in her throat. "neither did i." someone had to die. my family is waiting for me. the blonde quickly drew her slingshot and fired a heavy stone at juniper. hailey's aim was good, and the stone was aimed directly at juniper. if she was lucky, it would hit the other girl's chest, but it was more likely to hit her shoulder.

Juniper only registered Hailey's simple movement before realizing that a stone was flying straight for her. Reflexes kicking in, she dodged, but the stone smacked against Juniper's shoulder, causing her to yell out and stumble backwards. However, by Juniper's book, now that Hailey had struck first she could now attack. She just wanted to go home, and fighting this girl was the only way to do it. As fast as she could go, Juniper climbed the cornucopia. She was 18, and if she remembered correctly the girl from ten was much less. A sick, horrible feeling in her heart, Juniper lunged for Hailey, trying to dig a blow to the girl's heart so the games could just be over. She wanted to go home.
