does this also include art of your characters or fanart that you commissioned from other people?
No, if someone else created the artwork then you need to credit them, even if the character belongs to you. I should have said if you
made the art rather than if you
own it; I see how that wording came across as confusing.
aha i thought so, and that's okay! thanks for the clarification

I was considering sending this as a help ticket, but maybe there are other users who are in the same situation or a similar situation as mine who would be helped by whatever the answer to my situation is.
I requested the banner in my signature from someone on CS years ago. Luckily, the relevant posts are still on CS. However, the banner was originally uploaded to TinyPic, which shut down recently-ish and therefore broke all the tinypic links all over the web. So technically, there is no longer any solid "proof" that I have permission to use the image.
The user who made my banner hasn't visited CS since 2016.
Also, while the image has CS pets, it also has what I'm pretty sure is custom artwork in it, so I assume that I do need to adhere to the link-to-permission rule.
Should I try to track the user down offsite (I would be starting from scratch here as my only contact with this user was on CS and I am no longer active on other similar sites) and ask for confirmation of permission which I can then screenshot and link in my signature?
Or, since I'm lucky enough that the relevant posts are still on CS, would it be sufficient to link to my request post? Should I also link to the original "okay, I finished your request, here's the image!" post that now has a broken image?
Was your pet adopted December 18, any year, or December 24, 2011? It is most likely an older pet! CLICK ME to identify your pet!

@nickjr: If you have proof you ordered the commission that implies permission; they wouldn't have completed the commission if you were not intended to use the image for personal use. You can just link to the proof on CS. If the proof was off CS you could show a screenshot of it. We are much more concerned about images that were taken off Google because people liked them (totally valid if people did this at some point, I did this all the time when I was younger) and they never had any kind of permission to use them or claim to them.

Sweet, thanks!

One more unrelated question that may or may not need clarification and I have no idea how often this might come up but my head likes trying to find aaaaaall the corner cases. all of them. probably comes with the territory since I was a proofs TA for multiple years lol:
Say User A makes a "dreamie list" for User B that just consists of CS pets. Does User B need to credit User A for compiling the CS pets into that image? If not, at what point of additional stuff (e.g. cropping, fancy text, sparkles, etc) does User B need to credit User A?

Hey it was said that art from series depicting Images of Characters from not very child-friendly media Is okay as long as its widely known, I was wondering if my avatar fell under this category? Shes from the murder mystery videogame series danganronpa which contains pretty bad gore but its decently popular. Not as much as game of thrones of course but the following is pretty sizable. (Sorry if I should've sent a help ticket instead, I wasnt sure!)

As a general rule of thumb, you should give credit to someone any time they make something for you to use.

Danganronpa is fine to use artwork from as long as the graphics themselves are appropriate.

So I'm starting to wonder, I've had in my signature for a while now a small list of conventions I plan on attending in the future (well, right now it depends on COVID), is this list against the rules in any way? Since it's basically like I'm gonna be in X place on X date I thought I'd ask, and I'll remove it if so.

Since conventions (along with concerts, festivals, etc.) are large public gatherings often far from where you actually live the risk of someone using that information to target a specific person is very unlikely and therefore makes it acceptable to share.

How about smaller conventions, e.g. less than 500 attendees? The smallest convention I've been to had around 450

This rule was recently elaborated on:
"Images that display nude breasts, butt, or genitals are not allowed. We allow reference images and simple cartoon art styles (example: Donald Duck) that display these areas only if they meet the following criteria: 1) the character is covered in fur/hair that obscures the details of their anatomy, 2) the only detail is simple outlines to show the shape of the body, 3) the character is in a modest pose and setting, and 4) there is no flesh-toned shading in the genital area. Characters (even in reference images or without nipples) with smooth skinned breasts or butts must be covered by clothing."
Does that mean that the pinkish shading on the belly of an adoptable,
like this, is no longer allowed?
