Selling CS would be entirely up to Tess and Nick. I don't believe it needs to be discussed any further than that.

"Sell" perhaps may not be the correct word for what Shian is suggesting, more handing the site down to the admin team to vote on and make big decisions instead of needing everything to be approved. So that, in a way, though Tess will still be the owner, the other admins and assistants have the power to implement suggestions and changes. Even if they're only small ones, something is better than nothing. What we have going now is an amazing start and I know many of us would love to see this new trend continue into the future, even if we may not all be left to see it.

I probably could have worded my post better, my apologies. ^^ I was replying to the post above my own. I meant more that the only two people who have a say in something like selling the site or handing it down to other staff are Tess and Nick, so I don’t think it’s necessary to discuss the logistics of how that would happen. I think the changes currently taking place are awesome, and I hope that we can continue to have an open dialogue with the playerbase and work together to make the site as great as we can.

eg option 1 = simon
2 = lacuna
3 = sorren
4 = nick
and so on?
that would give us a good idea of who the playerbase would prefer as a site owner.

I don't think it's very fair for us to vote on who the site owner should be because 1; it depends whether the current mods/admins would want to take on that role as it is a huge responsibility, and 2; it should be Tess' choice, not ours.
It just puts unnecessary pressure on everyone

I agree with @karinfu. Tess owns the site (with Nick but Tess made CS), which means she can choose, plus, if she let us have a choice, i think it'll put pressure on her, cause it's her choice.

The mid month updates are great. The staff being more active in the community is great. Compiling all the rules in one place is something that's been sorely needed but anyone can do that, can't they?
These are all very good steps in the right direction, but it's not the biggest step to me and I really don't want to lose sight of that.
To settle on, "Well, this is all that we're getting because it's better than nothing."

I never ever want to seem ungrateful about forward progress. The staff listening and being willing to talk and be more open about what’s going on is great! Mid month news of what’s going on is awesome.
I’m looking forward to more physical QOL and other site updates implementing suggestions. And I’m hoping to everything that this will come about and not be waved behind because that is also truly what this site needs.

Why not put pressure on her? Yes, she owns CS and ultimately has say, but CS isn’t something that just affects her. It’s bigger than that. It’s a community project that has spanned *years*, long enough that many users including myself have grown up on this site. CS isn’t just a project, it’s basically its own society or culture or family, whichever term is more appropriate.

And it’s really obvious to its denizens that Tess doesn’t care that much anymore.

In a society/culture/family run by an absent ruler, pressure is put on them by the lower class/less powerful members that something is wrong and we need it to change. Protests/family interventions/whatever happen. With CS, we’ve had multiple suggestion topics (“ Show Us You Care”, for example) that have gotten little attention. It’s actually a miracle that this thread has gotten something done, and I am thoroughly convinced that was solely based on the massive pressure we applied by bringing up selling the site. Without the pressure, nothing would have changed, and unless we continue to apply pressure, things will revert back to how they were.

Don’t let up the pressure. Pressure is necessary. It is change. Without change, the site will fall, just like every other stagnant site or society.

This sounds pretentious as heck, but that’s because I’m a very politically minded person and I just can’t help but see the similarities between CS and certain stagnant societies.

I just wanted to nip in and say that I genuinely don't think it's fair to say that Tess has lost interest in the site or is being negligent.

Tess has always been very active on the site and in the community - as the site has grown over the years she's had to delegate responsibilities to other people to help support a larger community. This in turn obviously lends itself to less communication, but I don't think it's out of negligence or a disinterest in the community or the site. It's just a consequence of what happens when communities get this large.

Tess has always made a point on getting involved with events, adopts, forum discussion threads, the oekaki, etc. It's not like Tess to be quiet for so long over the course of this year. She has a real life too - and sometimes things happen that might prevent her from being as active here as she might like to. This is the first time I've noticed her remove herself this much.

Regardless, the site is much much much more than just Tess. I've no idea how work is delegated within the staff hierarchy but there are four server admins, four admin assistants and a whole team of staff. While the moderation team probably don't have much influence at all regarding the direction of the site, id be surprised if admins/admin assistants didn't. I'm very happy with Simon, Lacuna, Seasonal, etc's investment in this thread and they are obviously being proactive in helping the site improve by learning and listening to our concerns. That being said, it'd still be nice if Tess or Sorren could give their input on the thread but I won't hold it against them if they don't.

I think most people can collectively agree that debating on a transfer of ownership or selling the site is entirely up to Tess & Nick as the sites original owners. I do think it is disrespectful of everyone here to steer the conversation back to it. Honestly, if they didn't care it is likely they would have already put CS in somebody else's hands. They have been trying to help out lately, even if it's just little things right now, in connecting the community better to staff and I do say I respect that. It's clear they obviously want to be involved still, I think what is more important now is pointing out things that should be changed, improved, added, etc. After all, if people start back at attacking the staff of CS instead of trying to band together in finding what we need changed we won't get anything.

I really don't feel like any of this is "attacking" staff...as a community we should be able to voice our opinions. We make the site and the community what it is as users...what is it without us? Ownership can be passed on. Members can't.

Obviously ownership of the site isn't up to us, but if admins want the site to continue (or grow!), there are still things that need to be addressed. And if Tess can't be around due to irl things, maybe we need to add another admin to step up and specifically talk to the community.
