➵ Demitra Sparks
Demitra took a breath. No matter how she said this, it would inflict unimaginable pain on the kid who'd watched her alliance fall before her very eyes. Best to rip it off like an old bandage. She took out her throwing knives from where she'd stashed them in her jacket. Five knives in total; she'd sacrificed the sixth to kill Zoe's ally. After gathering all her blades, Demitra dropped them harmlessly in the grass.
"This is to show I have no intentions of attacking you," She told Zoe in a too-calm voice, almost creepy, like some emotionless Career Tributes she'd watched in the past. "But with what I'm about to say, I won't blame you if you attack me."
She tilted her head up a little, looking Zoe in the eye. "As a solo tribute, everyone was fair game for me. But I am no Career. It would be foolish of me to face my competition head-on. So I hid in the shadows, picking off tributes from a distance. At the time, it was nothing personal, but now that we are allies I need to come clean about who exactly I killed. It was your ally. It was almost you."
Although what she did was horrible, she felt a weight lifted off her chest at telling Zoe the truth.
"I understand if you hate me or want revenge," Demitra said, "but if you still wish to stay, I can assure you I have no plans of harming an ally. I may be a murderer, but I am not a backstabber. You have my word if you want to accept it."
➵ Eden Beauregard of District One
➵ Location: Careers' camp
➵ Tagged: Sienna, Moses, Jay, Killick, Madeline
Turning his head, Eden watched in worry as his friend tended to her injured district partner. Moses seemed to be in terrible condition in terms of both physical and mental health, and Eden wondered what he could do to help. Desperation tightened his throat and squeezed at his already-aching heart. It would shatter these poor souls to lose yet another friend, but what could be done?
Sienna soon returned to his side, returning the first-aid kit before addressing little Jay. Eden's shoulders slumped in relief. He hoped the presence of a trusted ally would comfort the child, at least better than a scary six-foot-tall Career could.
"Thank you, Sienna," He murmured and then leaned in to hear what else she had to say. Her request broke his heart, but he nodded solemnly. "I'll do that. Would you come, too? It might help Jay to have someone he trusts. I promise, Moses will be in good hands." If Moses's condition worsened, Eden assumed his allies would make him comfortable even in his absence. At least he trusted Chaska, Caspia, and Killick to show kindness. The other two could be a tad callous, but they wouldn't go out of their way to torture the poor fellow.
Eden stayed put, just in case Jay did want a hug from him. He just watched from afar as Sienna continued to treat Moses' wounds. Something was dreadfully wrong with the boy from District Seven, and Eden was starting to wonder if recovery was even an option or if dragging this out would only prolong the torment. He shook away the morbid thought as Moses got up and left. The Career's eyes were soft, almost pleading as he met Sienna's gaze, wordlessly telling her he was there for her if she needed to talk. Or just a hug.
