History: Was given up once she was born and placed into foster care. She was abused by her foster parents, but stayed strong with her foster brothers and sisters. Eventually she was adopted, with one brother, to a much nicer family. They owned a horse ranch, so she learned how to ride there. Eventually, she was given her own horse, and now works hard to train her horse. Her ex, a former boarder at the ranch, frequently visits to torment her and give her problems. Kat doesn't talk much... and prefers to keep quiet about her scars and her past. ^.^

Charles leaned against the fence, slowly pulling sugar cubes out of his pocket and feeding them to his horse. The buckwheat mare lipped at his hand gently, her ears twisting around for signs of danger.

She stroked the stallion's thick black mane as she ran the brush over his shoulder. A cloud of dust flew off of him, and he sneezed. Katherine laughed and ruffled up his forelock, watching as he went back to his bucket of feed. " Well if you didn't roll after I brushed you the first time, then you wouldn't be sneezing so much! " She said laughing when the stallion turned to give her a playful nudge. The house door slammed shut, and she looked up as a figure made their way over to them. Spirit, not tied as always, stepped forward in front of Kat, flattening his ears. Once he saw it was her mom, he backed down, giving a loud sigh and going back to his feed.
" Katherine, your father and I are leaving to visit your relatives in Tenessee. You and your brother behave, alright? I already gave him the rules speech, and I'm leaving you with the money. " She said, handing her a credit card along with a small wad. Then she kissed Kat's cheek, and walked back to the house to finish packing.
The girl smiled, putting the money and card in her pocket, then going back to grooming her horse.

Charles watched as figures made their way down the driveway of his neighbor's house, two adults getting into a car and leaving. He looked back up to the house, then let his eyes trail back to the barn in their yard. Shaking his head, he turned back to his horse and put his foot on the fence, pushing down to propel his onto Tango's back. He hated saddles, and she hated putting a bit in her mouth, so they rode bare back with just a simple harness on the mare's head. Charles put her into a canter and the pair made a quick once around the yard, then galloped over to the practice barrels in their massive back yard.

Once her parents drove off, her brother came out and began walking over to his car. She looked up and watched as he waved and drove away.. Kat shrugged, and finished grooming her stallion. He pranced forward, tossing his head and giving a loud whinny to the mare next door. Katherine laughed and pat his shoulder. " You're such a flirt. " And he tossed his head, kneeling down and looking at her with pleading eyes. She sighed, and set the brush in its bucket, then walked over and sat on his back. Spirit stood up and whinnied again to the mare, his ears pricked forward in curiosity. Kat held his mane and clucked softly, and he moved into a slow trot towards the fence that separated the ranches.

Charles leaned forward, readying himself for what was to come. He smiled, and when he spoke his voice was soft, slightly gravelly from disuse. "You ready, girl?" Tango tossed her head back and let out a wild whinny, her hooves stomping into the ground and kicking up dust. She waited for his command, taking a moment to look back at the stallion who had been calling to her. She snorted, not enjoying having an audience, but when Charles gave the word, she darted forward, her hooves becoming a blur beneath her, her soft buckwheat color blending with the dirt in the arena. She blazed around the barrels, coming within centimeters of them, but never touching. She skidded to a halt moments later, having gone through the track in lightning speed.

Kat came to the fence and halted her stallion, watching as the boy lead his mare so easily around each barrel. Her eyes never left the pair, even as they skidded to a dead halt. Spirit tossed his head and arched his neck, prancing in place momentarily before whinnying to Tango again. Katherine stroked her feisty stallion's neck, and he settled down to his normal calm state again. She looked up at the pair again, and gave a shy wave, before clicking her tongue to tell her stallion to move on. Slowly they began walking down along the fenceline, heading towards the trails and roads..
