Apple decided to send out Lanayru to hopefully get her some experience. Like always, she had Lanayru start out with Laser Focus to see what the Patrat's moveset and typical attacks were. She wanted to try out a powered-up bite- it'd be great to test it out now. Lanayru was 3 levels below this patrat, so Apple was worried, but she was confident that Lanaryu could do this.

Lanayru found out that the Patrat has the moveset work up, bite, tackle, and detect with its typical attack being work up.
The Patrat used work up increasing its attack and special attack

Lanayru did quite a bit of damage against the Patrat as it stumbled backwards. Patrat then used tackle on Lanaryu doing a decent bit from being powered up from work up

Lanayru probably couldn't take another powered up Tackle, nor another Work Up. She switched to Io knowing that the Patrat's Bite and Detect would be able to subdue Ori. Hoping Io could take the switch-in's move, Apple had Io use Hypnosis on the turn after it's switch-in.
