Cazenar sighed. "Ugh, fine. For a few years before coming here, I was a Knight of Erock. They're, uh, my narrative's equivalent of paladins? Wait, you're thriller, do you know paladins? Bunch of self-righteous snobs who go round doing good in the name of their god. Except they didn't always do that much good. They killed a bunch of species they thought were evil. Like, the whole species, they'd just condemn." Cazenar scowled. "Great, now you've got me talking like a hero! Point is, I hated them, and I realised that whatever I did I ended up being bad, so I might as well just give in to it and be the worst I could be, and I betrayed them and came here, and it's the best decision I ever made."
((Also! Cazenar's skyrim backstory, that all this is based on:
-Lives in the city of Markarth, his dad's a wealthy merchant, his mum dies giving birth to his sister
-Markarth Incident happens when he's seven or so, he has to kill people to save his family, it messes him up
-he learns some magic as a teenager
-When he's 20, the Silver-Blood family have his dad murdered, steal his business and force the family into their debt
-A visiting wizard offers Cazenar a job as his apprentice, he accepts to get out of having to work off the debt, leaves town with him and doesn't come back
-His sixteen year old sister Radah is Upset about Caz just abandoning her, and having to be a Silver-Blood servant by herself. He feels guilty and sends some of the money he's making and writes to her a lot, she writes less and less often because she has a Whole lot of resentment
-Caz's wizard mentor starts doing dodgier and dodgier magic and ends up sacrificing innocent people to get more power, Cazenar starts feeling bad about working for him and betrays him to the Vigilants of Stendarr and takes a job with them
-The Silver-Bloods end up ruining Radah's life More and framing her for something and throwing her in Cidna Mine Prison for life, where she joins up with the Foresworn, who teach her to fight. Cazenar isn't told she's in prison, he thinks she's just finally stopped writing to him
-he's a Vigilant for a few years but becomes more and more uncomfy with their No Mercy and No Undead and No Things We Don't Really Like, it's Murder Time For Them stances
-So when a group of vampires attack the Hall of Vigilants, Caz stabs the Vigilant leader and saves a vampire and offers to give them the notes they came here looking for, because Why Not, it's not even possible to be a good person but the vigilants suck and at least the vampires have style
-he gets rewarded by being turned into a vampire lord. He does not throw away his amulet of stendarr.
-meanwhile radah gets out of prison, does some mercenary work, finds out the hall of the vigilants is destroyed, goes over to ask about Cazenar, gets told his body wasn't found, joins up with the Dawnguard to save Skyrim from the Growing Vampire Menance, finds an important vampire lady with an elder scroll in a crypt, and agrees to take her back to hr vampire family on the condition that they tell her where her brother is, and release him if they're holding him prisoner
-Cazenar is Very Surprised to see his little sister here and a vampire hunter, but makes a Very Dramatic Entrance when she asks about him and gives a fun cackling evil laugh. Radah announces that she's gonna murder him
-They spend the rest of dawnguard fighting, at the end of it, the dawnguard attack the vampires, cazenar sees someone about to kill his sister and welp.... betrayal time again...
-he stabs the vampire, Radah tells him to go and hide and get his life together, if she sees him again after this and he's still doing evil - either as a vampire or a human - she is going to kill him. But please, go and get your life together
-he's currently at the college of winterhold trying to do that aaaand that's about as far as I've got))
