A Tale of Two Packs RP Q&A

Postby sunhorsestar » Fri Jul 24, 2020 7:59 am

Heya guys! This is a place for all the questions and all to go. Feel free to ask whatever you want relating to the RP!

AGE CHART

Comparing a wolf's age to a human's. So some of the numbers won’t quite add up, and that’s because I’m going on general maturity, it will vary from wolf to wolf. Again, I’m going with the grey wolf, since we seem to primarily have those.

0-7 months: infant to 8 year old on average
8-11 months: 9-12 years old on average
1 year- 1 year, 6 months: 13-15 years old on average
1 year, 7 months- 1 year, 11 months: 16-18 years old on average
2 years: 19-20 years old on average
3-4 years: 21-23 years old on average
5-6: 24-27 years old on average
7: 28-31 years old on average
8-9: 32-40 years old on average
10: 41-43 years old on average
11-12: 44-47 years old on average
13: 50+

Most wolves in the wild do not live longer than 13-14 years at the very most.

ROMANCE ACCEPTABILITY CHART

So this is for romance, and has been requested by Kestrel. I’m taking this in accordance not with RP, but with the average of real-life wolves I’ve studied. It’s generally based on the most common breed, the grey wolf.

0-10 months: Crushes don’t generally exist, at 7+ months they may begin to feel "puppy-love". They’re the equivalent of a baby to 9-11 years old in human terms.

11 months, 1 year, 5 months: Beginning to develop crushes, may crush on each other between these ages. They are the equivalent of 12-14 years old.

1 year 6 months, 2 years, 1 month: May crush on each other. They’re the equivalent of 16-18 years old.

2 years, 2 months+: May take official mates, they may take any mate who is an adult. They will not breed with wolves who are more than 4-ish years older than themselves in general.

Re: A Tale of Two Packs RP Q&A

Various questions have come up in my time of reading the latest drama:

Is Rue with Thunder (where he is in the camp) or is she with Karter and Storm, who are *not on anyone's territory, but in a location beyond the territories*?

If Ginger has attempted to kill a pup and is continuing to come around to brag about it in the pack, insulting the leader and definitely proving herself an evil, attention thirsty she-wolf, why can't Shadow kill her? Lucy should understand that this can't stand. She's condemned her own character to death, so as far as I'm concerned, this is more than enough permission to kill an evil character (even if it isn't explicitly stated.)

Can we have a name for the "beyond the pack territories" that isn't just "the forest"? Maybe that's why people are under the assumption that Karter/Storm are still within pack grounds? Maybe stick a mountain or a cave in there? Idk

Can we establish limits for these wolves? Trainees shouldn't be able to cover miles in seconds, regardless of how "fast" they are. Or can we establish a stat system? Like, 50 days (in character, within the span of the RP, so you can't train really hard for only one day in the RP and make your goal) of hard training (paragraph format with your Trainer, no wiggling out of this one with one-liners) so we don't have cases of wolves running around everywhere at the speed of light or landing trained blows despite not having any training in attacking?

Like maybe it could be something like depending on what rank you've taken, you get two strengths you can train and two unchanging weaknesses (Speed, Attack, Tracking, Honor)
--> If a wolf is strong in Honor and Attack, they can train those ranks with the x number of days trained, in order to be able to write their characters as being able to attack with viable force and knowing where to strike and honorable (Honorable wolves may have a higher chance of being chosen as a healer, beta or alpha, as they would be well regarded within the pack.)
--> If a wolf is weak in tracking and speed, they cannot change these weaknesses and it will always hold them back. They won't be able to travel at the speed of light, because it's one of their weaknesses and they won't be able to track their pack mates (unless they're standing right in front of them) because it's hard to distinguish pack member from prey animal or river for tree, or something to that effect.
--> If a writer puts in a character that is older than a Trainee, then they get to decide in the profile, what two stats are your wolf's strengths and which two are their weaknesses. It should be a profile requirement and something that players keep to in the RP. Heck, I could probably come up with some sort of documentation about who has what strengths/weaknesses so we could make sure that people are keeping to the character limits. It's up to them which ones they choose for their characters, but suggestions could be that Hunters are weak in Attack/Insert one of remaining 3 Traits, Warriors are weak in Speed/Insert Trait..., Healers are weak in Tracking/Insert Trait, and so on.

But Bello, I hear you ask, what about all of the characters that are already signed up?
Thanks for asking! Easy solution: We just get everyone in the chat to say what their existing characters strengths and weaknesses are. If they don't post their strengths/weaknesses, their characters are put on pause and they won't be able to post until they get all of their characters updated to the strength/weakness limits.

This is more of a suggestion than a Q-A question, I'm realizing, but I thought I'd put the rough sketches of it here. I could fill it out more, but I feel like that might limit the OBVIOUS power playing happening in this roleplay.

^^ I can get behind a lot of these ideas. Especially the power-playing and god-like powers within some of the wolves. Ones that never get hit and always dodge, or are impossibly fast, stuff like that.

I think we should have a split between the two packs, one thread per pack, as well as an outlands thread. I understand that gives us a lot of forums-
Sign Up
Starris
Fire Pack
Lightning Pack
Q&A
Outlands

but I do think it would keep us more organized. As well as keeping updated allegiances on the front page of each respective pack forum.

@Oliver: The idea has been discussed, but I’m not even sure if we're ALLOWED to do that, and it complicates things for things such as the Meet or battles, or even just meetings on the borders.

@Bello: In response to your questions:

1. Rue is with Karter and Storm at the moment, and has just backed off from challenging Karter to fight.

2. Be that as it may, Ginger is still Lucy's character, and in standing with what has been discussed in the RP, kept under careful watch, Shadow (curse her soft heart. Maybe Ginger was right) has decreed that until/unless another incident should follow, as this is a first offence, Ginger remains with the Pack, under supervision, and not to be allowed near Pups nor den mothers. Shadow was and is still fully prepared to sentence her to exile if things should go wrong again.

3. Man, if we had a mountain, the Legend of the Great TrEe might become an actual thing, but I assume there are fields and possibly other forests and meadows beyond the Pack lands.

4. I do agree with this. The question then becomes how do we expect people to be able to accurately judge this though? That’s the part I’m unsure of. I do agree if we had a LOT less godmodding it would be more fair to the RPers, and more fair to the hard built and worked with characters. A Trainee or otherwise untrained wolf should not be able to defeat a full trained Warrior, Beta, or Alpha. We can try as much as we like to put those limits on, but do you then have a suggestion on how to make people actually STICK to it?

@Sun - 1. How did Rue find Karter/Storm? Is she one of those "super fast" wolves? Isn't she a trainee?

2. You should contact Lucy to tell her that what her character is doing is out of line. Especially since she doesn't know when she'll be on next? Why give so much focus to her characters if she's only going to rile people up and then dip? Doesn't make sense to me.

3. Okay so should we have Meadow, be the place beyond the forested Fire and Lightning Territories to be used? And specify within the RP that it takes like... the majority of a day to get there? To get there you have to consistently post that you're on your way to the meadow until the time changes to evening (or morning, if you were traveling at night) to get there? That way if wolves find others in the forest before they reach the Meadow it's more plausible.

4. We enforce it with a 4 strike rule. 1st and 2nd strikes are warnings because players may not be used to the new system. 3rd strike is a warning that if you strike out again, you're getting your OP character killed in the RP. Fourth strike - The mods in charge kill off that character. They go to Starris (or the moon dog equivalent) so they can remain in the RP, but they are not allowed to RP with living wolves.

@Oliver - Ooh, I like the separation ideas! So happy that you're interested in my powerplaying limit ideas <3

@Bello:

1. Yes, she’s a Trainee, and claims to have been wandering by close to where Storm and KT are, and to have been able to catch up while Storm had caught Karter off balance.

2. Yes, definitely. I’d say it’s probably a good half day travel, assuming a wolf is at a relatively good pace and doesn’t stop, AND knows the general direction.

3. That makes sense to me, and sounds fair. I am good with that. So the idea is each character chooses two main traits to excel at, and the others are more like weaknesses for them, and if they step beyond that without the proper training, that’s a strike, yeah?

@Sun -

1. Sounds like she could benefit from the Strength/Weakness limits then. xD

2. Okay, noted. Thanks!

3. So I'll write up a full draft of what it would be like when I'm back from spending time with the family, but the idea is there are four total options: Strength, Speed, Honor and Tracking. Two of these will be character strengths (If they're a trainee then they must work on these strengths, by posting for 20 days in the roleplay that they've trained with their Trainer in one of these skills. So 20 days dedicated to Strength plus another 20 for Honor, or something) and the remaining two will be weaknesses, which cannot be trained into a strength, they always have to be what's holding you back.

You can get a strike for stuff like being super fast, despite having Speed as a weakness, acting like you can track something immediately despite not having reached your 20 day requirement if you're a Trainee, etc.

I'll go into more detail after I get back from dinner.
