The most notable changes to the site since 2014:
-C$ tag on store pets
-The change of VC and C color
The amount of pets on the site keep growing. The website itself (because it hasn't grown and changed) has been making it harder and harder and harder to do the most basic of things. Trade. Sort pets. Heck even the rarity system could be looked at.
There's 7 rarities and well over 10,000 pets. It's getting pretty close to rarities not mattering at all because there's over a thousand pets in that one rarity tag.
I know it was said long ago that Nick had access to all of the data in CS. We even had "most wished for pets" published a couple of years. People still fight over value and tradeability constantly. Would it really be so bad to publish the actual numbers? If the site's going to be dead, might as well go down in a blaze of glory. (A few MMOs did this where they published things that were still in testing since the site was going down anyways.)
Or not. Maybe publishing actual numbers on site might get people more interested in the site (I'm going to hoard the most common pet on the site and see how far I get!) instead of this constant mistrust in others. Having to rely on someone else and somehow believe that they're not out to scam.
There's so many SIMPLE things that could be done to help some of the issues CS has with sorting, rarity and trading. Stop being stubborn and let us filter the archive by "owned and not owned". It's already displayed there. There's NO ADDITIONAL LAG. What about "add pets on this page to the wishlist"? How hard could that be?
Can I remind you that changing the one color took 3 years.
Why is it so hard to have multiple wishlist types? Stars, Moons, Mountains, whatever. It's too hard to trade and sort pets. The most basic of things to do on this website. It seems like the only part of the site that gets updates is oekaki. You know, the part that really isn't exclusive to CS?
I feel as if I've been incredibly loyal over the years. I was there when the site was having so many lag problems that people thought that there were too many pets on CS so deleted them en masse. I remember not liking the items at first, but loving the idea of a C$ store so the lag problem could be tackled. I remember donating a part of my paycheck each and every month to CS and CS alone because I didn't want it to go back to bad lag times. Because I enjoyed the site. Even in 2016 when the updates had pretty much stopped, you didn't see Tess on the forums anymore, and it was clear that I should leave and find a game that actually updated, I stayed because I naively thought that maybe it would get better.
I understand needing a break. Why not step away for a bit? A year? Two? Then maybe we could go back to building a website together, the community and owner just constantly making small improvements to make something to be proud of.
One by one, I watched many of my peers have quit too- those that I felt have been a part of the community for a really long time.
Each time, I wished we could just go back to the times when Tess would chime in on suggestions, stating why they would or would not work. Or even "good idea". And have that idea implemented fairly quickly.
I started thinning my own hoards one by one. If everyone else was leaving, maybe I shouldn't be so invested here anymore.
Would it really be so bad to sell the site to someone that would actually update it? A site is dead when the owner quits and Tess hasn't been seen in the longest time, appearing only when the site riots and demands a BLM statement (that other sites had up long before). Even the mods don't chime in much anymore, for fear their personal words will carry too much weight and will be mistaken for actual ability to change or update the site.
Maybe showing the tiniest bit of interest in your own site would be nice. If that's too hard, just let it go.
I get it. If I had to keep using 10 year old art and keep working on a website I made in my teens, I'd want nothing to do with the site either, TBH. Just sell it.
