What will the future of CS look like?

Postby MatchaParfait » Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:17 pm

Maybe the OMGSRs will become OMGSSSSSSSSSSSSSRs and all the pets(yes, I mean ALL)in 2025 will be OMGSC. And then, the pets we have today will become rare or very rare  Also, the store pets will be very common instead of very rare and rare. And then we won't have to worry about the trading worth because all of our pets will be... y'know, OMGSC!
i am so very sorry but i quit. please do not send me a pm or a trade, i will not reply to it.

I can't believe it's been 4 years since I've joined already, but honestly except for the store pets going OMGSR nothing has really happened much? Yeah, older uncommons are turning rare one by one, but I think it's always been like that
honestly I get the feeling looking back at old threads from like 2010 or 2011 - 2012 that stuff used to go much faster? Pets aged faster, became rare faster
We've had almost nothing but commons for years and the only recent-ish thing that went up is the little PPS lion from August 2016 that went rare

Older store pets will be impossible to get by newer users and there will be an increasing amount of problems because of that, lots of rage and possibly even scam attempts.

I've now hit a decade on this site (terrifying thought, I know), and to be honest, a lot of things I thought would change more have not? In terms of pets and rarity.

I have pets that I adopted back in '10, which are original adopts (they have only ever lived on my account) . . . and they are still uncommon. So it is not as crazy as you think it would be. The biggest changes I have seen are more accurate rarities because you could definitely tell in the past that some uncommon were more uncommon than others if that makes any sense? I like that there is more of a variety now and that there are pets all across the board instead of the issues in the past when they were just all getting lumped uncommon.

Otherwise though, yeah, some pets got rarer as time went on, and I find myself checking my trade groups during rarity updates just to make sure I don't need to change things around. Any pets that do turn rare, I am usually not overly surprised by it.

Like Bilaz, the only shakeup I can recall at the moment is the August PPS, which is VR. In terms of things moving faster, I think it was more notable back in the day because just 100 more people joining had way more of an impact than it would not. Just the way the trajectory is, more people own the current pets as opposed to back in '10-'12, when CS had probably less members.

i actually have had a sort of similar experience on this site! i joined in 2011, played for a fair amount of 2012, drifted away, and returned in 2020, about eight years after mostly abandoning my account. here's what i've observed:

even after nearly a decade, your monthly adopts will mostly be uncommon and below. a few will be rare, but they'll be far more likely to just be regular commons. yes, still. and even though you now have what would be considered "old" uncommons (in comparison to how many years this site has existed, anyway), they won't really be especially valuable or sought-out uncommons.

what did rise in value were my store pets. in 2012, my yellow android was worth roughly low list. when i returned in 2020, i very quickly got a sorbet for it, something that would have been unthinkable when i left. with that being said... with the current trajectory of what recent store pets are going for, i think it will be a long time before a 2016-2020 store pet gains that kind of value, if any ever do; it's far more likely the site will die out before then.

it's definitely been an interesting return! one or two of my pets became far more valuable than i ever would have imagined, and because of that, i'm now a lot more well-off than i was back then, but the bulk of my pets still really aren't worth much, and it's still not any easier to use, say, 2012 monthlies to get 2009 rares (in fact, looking through my old trades, it almost seems like it was easier for me in the past).

for what it's worth, i sincerely wish the staff would start throwing in a few more valuable monthly adopts. i'm not really an expert on what's been going on for the past few years, so forgive me if i'm wrong, but based on other comments, it sounds like that hasn't happened in a while. i just think it would be a nice way to give newer users the opportunity to have pets that older users would be willing to overpay for for a change, outside of one day in december (or perhaps store pets, which not every user has the opportunity to buy).

^yes I agree with you, maybe the site is bigger now but it would still be possible to have a very low probability outcome, so low that it's likely to be very rare. I don't really care if I wouldn't be lucky enough to get it, I just think it would shake things up rather than having years and years of uncommon and below pets. With the rarity update, the 2010 pets are finally turning rare, but that's it, the 2010 pets alone :/

probably still up, much less active than in the past but full of adult users with too much time on their hands and a tight grip on their nostalgia. things will still be released normally but may have less creativity to the point things are recycled in order to keep things running like normal. almost like neopets.
and just like neopets, a lack of updates that adapt more to their mostly adult userbase.
inactive as of 2021

I personally don’t really think quieting down is a bad thing? Yeah true there aren’t that many updates but it’s always been a rather small staff so I do understand that but with the amazing artist team and new artists always joining I really don’t think the adopts will lose creativity.

No what I think it is is that the adopts *seem* less special, somehow people are no longer interested in the new pets as *pets* anymore, if you look at the old outcome threads, people were naming them and everything. Nowadays people only really look at them as collectables, and for collectables, well, they’re all common so not that interesting. You see people always give the new URs way more excitement (Galaxy cat, while I absolutely adore it, looks like several equally gorgeous monthlies)

Idk I’m rambling now but I really think this site needs either an attitude change towards the pets or more rares? :/

This. Also, if the fanbase slows down a bit, might make monthly pets and event pets a bit more rare with less people logging on and whatnot.
