@solloby - that's such a bummer that they're much more expensive in your country! It's a good thing you've managed to find a few cheaper online.

@Peachy pie - Oh gosh, yeah - they're everywhere XD I've got three shelves over my bed, a few in my bookshelf, and a small row of them in my second book shelf, I'm running out of room!

@EmberWolf - Would you say acrylics with airbrush is most effective? I just got an airbrush myself and haven't tested it out on one of my paintable stablemates yet, but I've got plenty of acrylics if that's the best paint to go with.

@lilpupin - Yes, definitely. I know people use things like glazes through airbrush to do porcelain/china pieces but as far as regular painted goes, acrylics would be best. I use Golden High Flow acrylics that are made for airbrushing, but you can thin down any acrylic paint to work through an airbrush, either with a specific thinner or just plain water. It's a lot of fun! I only just got the airbrush a couple of months ago but I've had a great time with it, even though it's taking some getting used to (and a fair few failed attempts lol)

This was the first airbrush paint job I completed that I was fully satisfied with. Not a Breyer but a shetland pony resin called "Skorie."

@emberwolf - thank you for the response! I had no idea people used pastels, I found a step by step tutorial and it seems perhaps easier than painting? And wow that Shetland pony looks great! Where did you get the resin?

If any of you have/do paint models, what paint do you use? Watercolor, Acrylic, or oils? I’m trying to decide how I should customize a Breyer.

@lilpupin - Thank you! I wish you luck and I look forward to seeing what you make!

@Fallenleaf - Thanks! I do think pastels are a great way to get into painting. I started with them, shaving dust off pastel sticks. There are amazing pastel artists out there. Pastels make it a lot easier to blend/shade and the many layers it takes to build up color bring a lot of depth into the paint job. There are set backs - like grain and the fact that its a kind of messy technique that requires the ability to spray a lot of sealant, but otherwise a more inexpensive way to get into painting than say an airbrush. I recommend it!

@ fallen leaf aghhhhh they’re so expensive! All the ones I find are like 150 dollars and are extremely scratched up!

am I the only one that thinks it’s wack that Breyer didn’t do a kelpie themed model for this year? Pegasi and unicorns, but no kelpie for Celtic Fling? Just my opinion tho

Yeah, I know that the crystal model this year is named “kelpie” but I find it to be kind of disappointing that there’s no actual kelpie.

@RangerTheCowpony I’ve seen Rain go for less, but that’s insane! All the cheaper (still around 30-40$) ones I can find are those 2017 Netflix ones I don’t really care for because they aren’t really the true “spirit of the cimarron” 😂. Guess who’s not planning on buying spirit for that much? Me.

If you go to tack stores, I’d definetly keep an eye peeled. Sometimes models are cheaper (or higher depending on quality, etc) there. Most of my breyers came from tack sales and stores (In good condition) The special editions and Tradition sized ones were still a good/higher price. I guess There’s always a small chance to find an extremely high demand model?

I don’t know much about breyerfest, nor have I been to one, but yea, that’s crazy? You’d think Breyer reeves could have jumped on the opportunity to make more money for such a cool concept.

@RangerTheCowpony - The only reason I'm letting them get away with it is because of the crystal model XD

@Falenleaf - is it fairly normal that breyers are sold in tack stores? When breyer was going to host their horse day at breyer retailers it said that a tack store near me was one, but it was the only one so I figured it was uncommon.

Y’all talking about the original spirit models? I was lucky and found two rains and two spirits at Salvation Army, of course paint scratches and one spirit has a leg repair but hey, they were maybe a dollar each? Can’t conpalin! Also have y’all seen that the new Halloween model uses one of the spirit casts!

I sort of get it - it's super easy to stick a unicorn horn onto a model, but modifying a horse into a kelpie that can be mass-produced isn't. I suppose they could have had a horse with a kelpie-inspired design, but I wasn't surprised to see no true kelpies with kelpie-like bodies.

Tack stores are a pretty common carrier of Breyers. That or feed and farm supply stores. I see them more in those types of stores than I do toy stores these days. When I still lived in the US my local dealer was a farm supply store.
