"Mano died when he was just about a month old. He had always wanted to grow up and be like our pa, so when he had the chance to choose, he chose he wanted to be an adult mentally. Which looks kinda weird on him, but somehow it works," Kai noted, stealing a brief glance at the black and brown ball of fluff that was his older brother, who seemed to be napping right in the middle of the field.

"Pa? Well he used to be the Alpha- kinda like the king- of the Lightning Pack. Up here, he spends his time teaching newcomers the ways things work around here. He taught me, and he taught my big sister's ex-mate," He remembered. "Probably a dozen other wolves too."

She nodded and said, "So Mano is an adult by mind not size?"

"Exactly," he agreed. "He can think, talk, and act like an adult. He’s mature, and capable of adult understanding, but it means he lost a lot of that youthful energy and spirit, unfortunately. I guess he just couldn’t stand watching all the other adults when on earth, he would've been about seven, maybe eight by now," Kai remembered.

Kai himself had died at two and a half years old. He had been slow in his training, and had died shortly before he would have graduated. He had the body of a juvenile, neither a pup nor full grown, but the mind of a youngster. Mano, on the other hand, had the body of a Pup, but the mind of the adult he might have been if he had lived and remained with the earth-dogs. Oh yes, Starris was confusing, and it took plenty of time to learn how things works around here, but it wasn’t totally impossible, given enough time.

"Oh," she nodded. She sat down and squeaked, "I'm hungry."

"Well then let’s catch you something to eat, huh?" Kai had been a Hunter Trainee when he had lived with the Fire Pack, even if he had never graduated, he liked to think he would have made a decent Hunter, so by nature, hunting was his specialty. Usually Grace INSISTED on being the provider for the large family, so he rarely had a chance to actually USE the skills he’d been taught on earth.

"Do you want me to catch something for you, or..." His bluish amber eyes gleamed just for a moment. "Do you want me to teach you to catch your own?" If she wasn’t ready to learn and just wanted him to hunt, that was perfectly fine with him. Either way, it made no difference to him.

She moved her ears forward and squeaked as she bounced in the air, "Yes!!" She wanted to learn how to hunt.

For once, Kai could be the trainer instead of the Trainee! He’d always hoped he’d be able to teach a Trainee of his own one day, and sure, Willow wasn't a formal Trainee, nor old enough to officially be one, but there was little harm up here, and it surely couldn’t hurt to teach a wolf how to hunt for herself, that way she could just go out and catch prey anytime she was getting hungry, right?

"Okay, then follow me and we'll go into the forest. You have to do as I say to keep safe though, okay?"

Octavia

Octavia smiled slightly at Cobalt, silently thanking him for being understanding. "Yeah, that's very true" she nodded, and stretched out a bit. She glanced sideways at Cobalt. "What was your first dream walk like?" she asked. "Yeah, we might as well go meet up with the others" she agreed.

Rain

Rain happily bounced about on her paws. "That's good that you're ok then!" she giggled and shook out her tail. "Let's go Merida" she said excitedly.

Kai started into the forest, keeping a slow-ish pace so that Willow wasn't left behind, and looking over his shoulder every now and then to make sure the Pup was keeping up. He didn’t want to leave her behind. He lifted his head and breathed in the scent. Mouse, rabbit, and squirrel, if his senses were true to him. All the prey-scents relatively fresh as far as he could tell. Yes, it would be a good day for hunting.

"Breathe in. Can you recognize any of the scents? There’s three kinds of prey that have been here, probably within the last hour or so," He told her, but lowered his voice as not to scare the prey. "And keep your voice down. We don’t want to scare the prey away before we’ve even had the chance to stalk it for a bit."

"Okay, let's!" Anna wasn’t much fun to play against, she always either won, or insisted that- despite the rules SHE had made- she won even if she clearly hadn’t. Poor sport. Merida stepped forward, switching places with Anna, who would now step back to be a referee of sorts.

"Ready whenever you are," Merida said, crouching down, ready to lunge, pounce, or dodge as needed. Anna was big and strong, but Merida was fast.

As if they had been summoned, Acero and Fang had reappeared at the edge of the forest with prey in their jaws. Cobalt smiled just the slightest bit as Octavia asked, but it made him think back. He had been here a very long time, and had dreamwalked at least three or four times since his first, even though each and every attempt had always made his heart pound and his mind race with anxiety.

"Well...it was scary, but exhilarating. I thought I’d forget to ground myself, but I didn’t. I had help from Alpha Lolan. I walked in the mind of my mother Tala," He remembered. "I told her good things about what I felt was to come, and it felt like I had connected with her again. It was one of my highlights from my early days here. I returned to her and to my father twice more before they passed."
