Willow sneezed as sand got into her nose and fell into a deeper sleep. She saw in her dream a starry wolf staring at her and said, "Who r u??" The starry wolf answered, "Fawn and u shall be mine to take care of u." Willow shivered as the voice chilled her to the bone. She replied, "I have a mother already named Grace. Ur my father's other mate right??" Fawn replied saying yes. "Forget it, my mom up here Grace takes care of me," Willow defiantly replied. Fawn said, "U will be mine, even if it means some wolves might not be around anymore." Willow woke up and said frantically, "Mommy, I need to tell u something."

"My parents are!" Denae chirped happily. She tilted her head to one side. "Nobody else says anything about Naomi and Kioko, so I think everyone else thinks they’re fine, but I also think my parents never had or helped care for other Pups before, because there are times they seem completely clueless about what to do and how to handle us," She noted.

Grace had been tending to a sleepless Kai, but then Willow was awake and seeming somewhat in a panic. Worry came to her eyes and she quickly forced it away, not wanting to worry the young she-pup further. She turned her attention back on the younger she-wolf, reaching forward to gently lick her ear.

"Of course, love. What’s the matter?" She asked, her voice soft, gentle. She pulled back to look the Pup in the eyes, hoping that would be of some comfort.

"Oh, I see." He said, nodding his head. "Well, I should probably be going now. It was good to speak with you, Denae, even if it was only for a few minutes." The smile took up its place on his muzzle once again, and he closed his eyes, imagining Lolan's den best he could. He pushed all thoughts of Denae out all together, and felt himself slip from her dream.

Dyson's eyes opened, a worm of doubt and worry wiggling its way into his mind. But, as he looked around, he saw Lolan, and Sariel. He was safe in Starris once again. He looked to Lolan, an expression of awe on his face. "That was fascinating!"

Denae nodded. What an odd dream! WAS it a dream, or was it a message or vision of some sort? She’d ask her dad! "Bye Starris wolf!" She chirped. "Thanks for visiting me!"

She replied with a fearful voice, "The wolf that was chasing us was Fawn and she is my father's other mate and she said u will be mine and she said even if some wolves aren't around anymore. She meant, she might hurt u and maybe u could... DIE!!!" She wailed and put her face in Grace's chest.

"No no no, it'll be alright." Why would Willow's father's other mate want to steal her mate's Pup? If she did get her again, would she hurt her? "Look at me, Willow. I’m larger than the average wolf because I have the blood of the ancient dire wolf in my veins down the line," She told her. "I’m big, and I’m strong, and I’m fast because I was once one of my Pack's Hunters. If this she-wolf, Fawn, comes back, it will be okay. You have two brothers, a mother, and a father who will be able to protect you. Four against one is an easy fight."

Even so, it worried her. She could win if it came to a fight, but there was nothing saying that the smaller she-wolf who had earlier kidnapped the Pup couldn’t hurt her. She couldn’t die all over again, really. She’d just reappear at the river or someplace similar, but that would mean she would be away from her Pup.

"I can’t die again, Willow. If she hurts me, Lolan will have something to say about it, and if she kills me all over again, I’ll just appear again at the river and come right back. I promise."

Willow stopped crying and had a relieved face and she said, "Oh good. I guess u guys would win since the odds aren't in Fawn's favor. Although, Fawn was a loner and she is very strong since she was living alone her whole life until my father came to be with her. Fawn is very fast, athletic, and has a build of a slim male Hunter. She also can jump high and swim fast. If she goes in water, no one would catch up to her. Her claws r as hard as steel. She also can manipulate people easily and can be very convincing and cunning. I'd be careful if I were u guys if she comes."

"Oh I know all about manipulation," Grace promised. "One of my daughters, Sira, was very good at it when she lived with me and Lolan." She stole a brief glance at Kai. Sira had been his littermate, and his head drooped at the mention of his red and white furred littermate. Grace licked his ear.

"And feel this, okay?" Grace extended her leg, where lean, wiry muscle was visible underneath her thin brown fur. She might not be able to catch up in the water, and couldn’t claim claws as sharp as iron, but she was fast, she was determined, and willing to fight for any of her family, and above all else, she was strong. Stronger even than her eldest daughter.

She looked at the drooping pup and said, "I'm srry Kai. By the looks of it, she was ur littermate." She felt her muscles and replied, "I have no doubt that you'll protect me. Ur the best mommy and I have the best brother in the whole world." She went over and hugged Kai and dropped down into a playful crouch. She wagged her tail.

"You’re going to be perfectly safe with us, and if we need to fight someone off to protect you, then that’s exactly what we're going to do," Grace promised. She meant it, she’d fight tooth and nail for any of her children. Be they born of her or not. Even if three of them had betrayed their birth Pack, she’d still welcome them with open arms, and when it was time for Sira and Shadow to join them, they would come share their den as well.

Grace tucked her paws under her chest comfortably as she watched the little Pup approach the larger frame of Kai. He’d been no more than a Trainee when he had died, in training to become a Hunter, and he wasn’t quite full sized, but he would still have to be gentle with her.

Sira. Kai had been closest to his littermate of all wolves. Although their personalities were very different, when she’d felt out of place and announced she was leaving, he had blindly followed her, only to be killed half a year after they had arrived and settled into their Pack. Stupid elk. He was happy enough where he was though, even if he missed his sisters. They never talked about him, it never seemed to bother his own twin that he had died and simply disappeared from her life. The parents he’d run away from in the first place seemed to value him more than the sister he had left to follow and support. Oh that realization had stung like a sharp blow for a long time. Now he had a new sister though. A little sister who might think about and/or care about him, small and young as she was.

When she hugged him, he gently nuzzled the small she-wolf, careful not to hurt her. How was it that a pup so small could be so comforting? "She was, and I left the Pack to be with her, but she doesn’t think about me anymore." At the mention of being the best brother, Kai couldn’t help a smile. He matched her stance, tail wagging behind him. "You wanna play?" He guessed.
