"I see." And he did. Lolan had two living children still, and a grandson. He occasionally visited Shadow in her dreams. Those were the sweet nights that he savoured. Many wolves were not strong enough though. Was this one? He squinted in the darkness of the den, then rose to his paws again.

"Very well. Sariel, remain with us, if you would." The old white wolf's pale gaze turned back to the other male. "You know of me through Sariel. What’s your name? Names are important in dreamwalking."

"My name is Dyson." He replied. "I don't know if it would matter, but... I did go by 'Ido' on Earth for a while. Never to my daughter, though. Only other wolves." He dropped his head slightly, and glanced at Sariel momentarily. He hoped he didn't have to explain why to this new wolf. Even though Sariel had said it wouldn't be a problem, it still brought back horrible memories.

"I see. I won’t ask for explanation. Your being here is explanation enough as far as I’m concerned. Come sit with me. The darkness of the den will make it easier. I won’t have you walk immediately in your daughter's mind. It may confuse her. It would be best to first walk in the mind of a wolf who does not know you. Perhaps a young one."

Lolan swished his paw over the ground. A small pool appeared next to him, which he searched through until he found what he was looking for. The Fire Pack, or rather, one of the sleeping Pups of Arian, a small, tawny brown she-wolf, curled up with her head on her white forepaws.

"This she-wolf. Her name is Denae, she will wake soon, but can remain asleep long enough for you to take the first steps in learning. Can you hold in your mind a message or a goal you plan to achieve by coming to a wolf in their sleep?" He asked.

Grace curled herself once more around the small bundle of fur. Her heart still pounded against her chest, her eyes still darted around furiously, as if worried the strange kidnapper would return. She had no doubt about it. The she-wolf lived in Starris too. That meant she was mostly a good wolf, but what kind of good wolf came to steal a Pup? Sure, Willow wasn't hers, she hadn’t even decided yet if she wanted Grace to adopt her, but one way or another, the young she-wolf was a Pup, and whether she liked it or not, Grace was a protector.

I failed my first daughter as a mother, and my second left me. I don’t know what it is I did wrong back then, but I will not do wrong for this one. She will need someone to care for her until her mind grows. Grace's pale eyes fixed on the small Pup, curled up against her light brown fur.

"Little Willow, you were too young when you died," She murmured. "Some Pups decide right away they wish to grow up and to be mature like the adults, while others decide to remain in the mindset of a young one. Those will need someone to care for them. What would you like to be?" It was only fair to give her the choice.

Willow looked up at Grace and she curled closer and murmurred, "I want to be the best wolf I can be. Weither I'm in the mind of pup forever, being mature like adults, or helping pups like u mommy. Is it ok if I call u mommy? Anyway, I want to be the best version of myself." She smiled up and Grace, then yawned and curled even closer to Grace and yawned again. She said sleepily, "Mommy, I was scared and lonely and u made a home for me here and u made this place less scary and more inviting. I used to think my life was a bad one, but now my life is only beginning. I can't wait to meet my daddy and…yawns…brother." She laid her head down and went to sleep. She said before sleep took her over, "Good nigh mommy, I love u." Willow then promptly fel asleep.

Dyson nodded, looking over the young wolf through the pool. "I will do my best." He stated. "It won't scare her, will it?" His goal was definitely not to scare the strange pup. Admittedly, he felt a bit guilty, using this pup to practice. It's only dreamwalking. He told himself. It's not like I'm eating them anymore...

"It depends on the Pup. I chose this one because she seems the calmest so far of her litter. She’s young, so her mind will be easy to access. The key really will be try not to think negatively. Because once you dreamwalk, for the duration of the dream, your thought process is linked. If you have dark thoughts, she will sense there’s something wrong. She won’t be able to see your thoughts, but she'd be able to tell something isn’t quite right," Lolan warned.

That was always the thing. That and grounding oneself. It was a lot of work, learning to dreamwalk. Very few wolves could do it, and even fewer could do it consistently. Truly, he realized, he had been lucky that he’d had enough strength and focus to be able to learn in the first place.

"Of course it’s okay," Grace promised with a smile. Willow wanted to be her best self possible. Those were good words to hear. This may be a Pup freshly delivered to Starris, but it was a young Pup with a healthy attitude towards herself and towards her future here. Grace would do anything possible to help her become her best self, and she knew Lolan, Kai and Mano enough to know they’d do the same. They would have no problem accepting her into their little family.

Well, if Grace had any lingering thoughts or doubts about adopting the small she-wolf, they disappeared the moment she was called her mother, the moment the soft words of gratitude were spoken. Her heart melted for the small Pup, and that was that. She curled around Willow, pulling the half asleep Pup close.

"Huh..." He glanced at Sariel nervously, scuffing the ground with a paw. "So, how do I begin?"

She dreamed of a butterfly and she batted her paws in the air and she tried catching it. Unknowingly, she was doing it in real life. She snorted as the pollen tickled her nose. She snored in a cute way and she shifted in a more comfortable position.

Grace smiled to herself as she watched the sleeping Pup, probably dreaming, from the way she moved in her sleep. She reminds me of Shadow when that one was a Pup. TOO much of her. The others had no choice but to have me as their mother. This one...she chose me, and I will not let her down. She swore. If she was sure of any one thing in the world, it was that. She would not fail.

Finally, the brown and white she-wolf picked up the small, sleeping figure and carried her slowly back towards the family den. Sure, there might be other wolves there, but they’d also be safer there than in the middle of the forest.

"Sariel, please stand in the back of the den, and come forward if I call you," Lolan instructed, it was always good to have a third party. Just in case. Then the white wolf faced Dyson once more after Sariel had retreated and settled herself in one of the dark corners of the cedar-scented den.

"There are three things you must do in order to dreamwalk," Lolan told him. "First, you must ground yourself. Find something here in Starris that your subconscious can hold onto, or you may end up a wandering spirit, caught between worlds with no definite way back to either. It’s happened to too many wolves. It’s why it’s not a highly recommended activity. Two, you must have a clear goal in what you are trying to do, and three, envision the face of that sleeping Pup. We'll keep an eye, and if you begin to look like you’re slipping, we'll bring you back from the dream," he promised. "Do you wish to proceed?"
