It started out just like any other night. Maybe you were leaving a party, or you had to work the night-shift at your Job, who knows. The night was a warm one, about mid June, and you were on your way home- walking. That's when things got weird- as, some feet ahead of you, a blue flame flickered midair- curious, but cautious you had approached, but it dissappeared....only for it to reappear somewhere else in your visual field- a willow-the-wisp, guiding you to your fate, as the fool's fire so often does.
The next thing you knew, you were inside a stone building- more of a castle, really- in a room with a skylight. With you were multiple other people your age...and several people in hooded robes....
" Why are we here?" someone had asked.
and they quickly recieved an answer.


Many have heard of Avalon, the realm of the fairies- sometimes simply referred to as the Fae Realm. Some believe rings of mushrooms, among other supposedly 'natural' phenomenons to be entrances to the fae realm. A few even fear such places, afraid the fair folk will whisk them away into their realm, never to be seen again.

Well, the truth is, they aren't wrong- about some of it. Mushroom circles aren't really entrances to the fae realm. But Avalon and the fair folk do exist- and, on occasion, the fair folk (mainly your elves and fairies, really. They are such fickle creatures.) will whisk off some unsuspecting human to their world. But There are more creatures in Avalon than your fairies and elves- they just make up the majority of the population. There are Merfolk and Sirens, Dragons and Dragonewts, Sphinx, and so much more. And before you ask- yes, there are werewolves and vampires- but they are earth-realm species. Not one has ever set foot in Avalon. They are- much like the seelie- reffered to as " The Kindred"- creatures of the night.

Nonetheless, you're probably wondering why you're here- at this time of night, in a place like this, surrounded by people in hooded cloaks, lit by candles and moonlight. Well, you've heard of secret societies, right? Well, that;s what this is. We're the Order of Avalon- and, yes, most of our members are from Avalon- a few were from this realm, like you all, drawn here for the same one of two reasons as you are. The first possibility is you are a regular human, searching for something more- something otherworlldly. You seek adventure, an escape from mundane life, or are a true believer in the supernatural. The rest of you are of supernatural origin, though you're likely unaware of it. Plenty of Avalon's citizens visit this world, quite frequently at that....but rarely, very rarely, they will fall for someone of the human race. In some of those cases, a child is born, and, more often than not, the child will be abandoned by its Avalon parent. These children have both human and supernatural genetics- and the supernatural ones are almost always dominant. But the traits don't typically show until the child reaches adulthood- but it all really depends on which Avalon creature was the parent. Questions on this can be answered later.


So, that answers your question as to why you are here. As for what we do...we are in charge of keeping earth's Avalonian residents safe, and to destroy those involved in the Avalonian black market- a market dealing in items made from things such as unicorn horns, dragon blood, etc. They pose a threat to earth's Avalonian residents, and even Avalon itself. If you so choose to join The Order of Avalon, you shall be a part of this. You will learn to fight humans and Avalonians alike, and, if you're lucky, you may even get to visit Avalon itself. For those of you of supernatural origin, you will also get the chance to learn who and what you are- what you are capable of- and, if you prove yourself loyal enough, you may even be given the choice to live in Avalon.

If any of you decline, however, your memories of this night will be erased. You will remember nothing of Avalon, or this order. You will continue to live your life just as you were.

Which, I suppose, leaves only one question- Will you join us?

Fairies and Elves
Your typical faefolk. They are solely an Avalon species, never born in our realm, and are the most common of the species.
Fairies and elves are very similar, but there are some differences.
Both have the ability to influence nature and (of course) have elongated, pointed ears, but fairies, of course, have wings, and can choose to shrink themselves down to around 4 inches if they so choose.
Elves are unable to lie, but can traverse the Elven Paths- shortcuts from one place to another via a series of maze-like pathways in a realm between ours and Avalon. Other supernaturals can only traverse the path directly from the Avalon gateway(s) to our realm and back unless escorted by an Elf. On ocassion, elves will have some sort of deer-like antler atop their heads.
Fairies live around 600-700 years, while elves live so long as their hearts aren't pierced by iron- which can not enter Avalon to begin with. However, some elves who have lived their lives out far too long often choose to join nature, typically as some type of tree. Can be seelie or Unseelie. ( same for faeries)
Elves can also detect lies


Dragons and Dragonewts
Almost all Dragonewt are born in our realm, but are almost always taken back to avalon to be raised. On Occasion a dragon will stay in our realm in a humanoid form to watch over the child and take it to Avalon when the time is right. However, Dragons almost never travel to our realm, making Dragonewts the rarest of the Avalon species.
Humans gifted with the blood of dragons. They are born to human parents, but if a dragon takes a liking to the child they will on occasion gift the child with dragon-like traits and abilities. They tend to have horns atop their head and patches of scales on their skin. Their pupils can dilate to be more serpentine, and both the upper and lower canines are sharper, much like a dragon. They can also have wings depending on the type of dragon that gifted them. Their final ability is both a gift and a hindrance. When exposed to the element their dragon affiliated with, they shift into a small version of a dragon. ( about the size of a small car). They also aren't as strong as normal dragons, and the durability of their scales is about half that of a dragon. So still tough, but not impenetrable.
They are a male-dominated species, but females do exist. Their average lifespan is typically around 4,000-5,000 years. Actual dragons live much, much longer.
Dragons are a bit more abundant than Dragonewts, but are still somewhat rare. Just like Dragonewts, they are a male-dominated species, but Dragons are avalonian in origin. Typically they keep to themselves and are rather solitary creature- in fact, if one was to see a group of dragons together, it would be best to do a swift 180 and get the heck out of there.
They also, like legends portray, do rather like treasure and all things treasure-y, and are rather protective of their hordes. If one was to seek information from a dragon, it wouldn't be hard to bribe them- if they don't first fry you to a crisp. Though, the information they would give would only be given if it would come at no risk to them.
Their dragon form is extremely different from a Dragonewts, namely that their dragon form is nearly triple the size of a blue whale- in some cases, even a bit bigger. They are much stronger than a Dragonewt, and their scales are nearly impenetrable- the only weapons able to slay them are those made and enchanted by the fae folk. Their humanoid form is different as well- they still have the horns and wings, the sharpened upper and lower canines,and slitted pupils, but they have a tail as well and lack scales on their skin. Additionally, their skin is otherwise flawless, unless their draconic form has any scars- in which case the scars will then still show on their humanoid form. They can live anywhere from 450,000-500,000 years on Average, though a few have lived longer.

Merfolk and Sirens
Merfolk/Sirens Can be found in both Avalon and Our realm. They can gain a human appearance on land, but will revert back to human form if they are completely submerged in water.
Merfolk and Sirens are relatively similar, with a few minute differences. The first being Sirens are uncommon, while Merfolk are common. The Other difference is that Sirens have the ability to create illusions with their songs, and can easily lure people into the water.
Their average lifespan is around 300-400 years.

Sphinx
Sphinx can be created in both Avalon or in our realm, but the individuals who become Sphinx are always human in origin.
An almost entirely female species, they have a lion's tail and ears, and wings. ( aka more of the Greek style sphinx.) When angered or in battle, though rarely on command, they can shift into a winged lion/lioness.
They also generally have two sides to them: a wilder, more predatory side, and a more human side, as they are dual-hearted in nature. They come into being after a lion deems them worthy. In some cases, if the lion is old or ill, it will give up it's life in order to create the sphinx. Other times the lion ( or lioness) will bind it's spirit to the new sphinx- as long as the Sphinx lives, so shall the lion. However, Sphinx are not immortal. They live just over 150 years on average ( part of the reason they are so rare), but can live longer, but very few ever go over 200 years.
Additionally, while being incredibly rare to begin with, male Sphinx are even harder to come by- but, they do exist.




Harpies
Often mistaken for an Angel when spotted in our realm, these primarily Avalon-origin creatures look almost identical to humans except for the wings growing out of their back. Typically their fingernails will be more talon-like, but some choose to keep them trimmed. Their wings can be in all sizes, as well as the color and pattern of any bird species, or any solid natural color. Some Harpies will dye their feathers much like a person dyes their hair.
However, they are not to be taken lightly. Though they enjoy a good time, they have tempers, and their wings are incredibly strong- more often than not, tornadoes are due to a Harpie's fury.
Their average life span is around 200-250 years, and they are an uncommon species.

Vampires
One of Kindred species, they are found solely in our realm. They have yet to set foot in Avalon.
The strength of each area varies from one to another. Some will heal quicker then others, but may not be as strong. Another might have more speed but not as nice reflexes. All are possessed, but like anyone else, talents vary. Simply put, however, they all retain enhanced speed- reflexes- senses- and healing. Users may also give their vamps one other ability of their choice. (ex. fire, ice, telekinesis, shadow-travel, etc.).

As for weaknesses, a hawthorn or rosewood stake to the heart can kill them. Decapitation can only kill them if the body is then burned. Sunlight can weaken them, but it can not kill them.
Older vampires can develop more sun resistance, but new vamps will quickly feel extremely weak and tired in the sunlight.
Meanwhile, rosewood/hawthorn wood and wild roses can help ward them off, but it can not entirely stop them. ( unless the wood, as earlier stated, is in the form of a stake.

The Turning Process
On occasion, ( or sometimes intentionally) vampiric blood will enter the human bloodstream, causing a human to develop a sickness. This sickness is known as ' The Kiss of Death". It can be recovered from, but few do. It can take up to eighty days for the human body to rid itself of the toxins. In the meanwhile, it will be increasingly harder for the victim to restrain from consuming human blood. As long as said victim doesn't taste human blood, however, they can recover. If tasted, death can occur within an hour, and they can return as a vampire as quickly as fifteen minutes or as late as a day later. There are a few stages prior to the consumption of human blood, and they progress to stage four as quickly as 24 to 48 hours. However, it does not matter at what stage human blood is tasted- even if the victim tastes it in stage one, they will still become a vampire. The only way to avoid becoming a vampire is to restrain from tasting human blood until the illness is completely out of the victims system.
stage one- you will noticed your senses are sharper, and you can run faster than most. Likely you are at this stage currently. In stage two you will notice your pupils have become more cat-like, and your canines sharpe enough to pierce skin but not yet fangs.
. In stage three you will begin to be able to smell blood and tell when someone is bleeding. Every now and then you might cling to someone who is bleeding, out of vampiric instinct. Self control goes in and out at this point.
Stage four is where you will begin to desire blood, and will likely attack anyone who is bleeding. At this point self control is very rare, and very limited.
Vampire children ( when born to one human and one vampire parent) Will go through a similar experience, but will have self control for a longer period of time. Symptoms don't start til the age of 18, at which their mortal body stops aging and begin preparing for the transition into a vampire.
Their lifespan is infinite until slayed

Werewolves
Lycans, Wolf-men, Werewolves, whatever you want to call them. They are one of the Kindred, earth-bound species, and have yet to set foot in Avalon. Pureblooded werewolves are always born in a pack. It is rare for halfblooded werewolves to be born outside a pack and abandoned. Turned werewolves are often abandoned, solely because the werewolf who created them often doesn't know it created them.
They have three forms aside from their human form-
The Feral: A wolf twice the size, sometimes even three times the size, of an average wolf. When in this state, the Lycan has a solely wolf state of mind, and won't remember anything that happens while in this form.
The controlled: A wolf smaller than the Feral form but still larger than the average wolf. In this state they are in control of their actions and will remember anything that happens.
The True Lycan: A state in between wolf and man- it stand and walks upright (sometimes hunched over a bit) like a man, but has the overall appearance of a wolf ( though often bulkier), and has thumbs, unlike the typical wolf. They are in control of their actions most of the time, but have to be trained to control this state. However, typically only pureblooded and halfblooded Lycans can access this form. It is rare for a turned Lycan to have this form.
Alphas have eyes that glow purple- regular werewolves have eyes that glow gold or an amber color. Werewolves who have taken an innocent life ( unintentionally or intentionally) have eyes that glow a light blue.
They don't change every night. Most can change at will when trained, but all are forced to change on the full moon. All their abilities are lost temporarily during a new moon or an eclipse. They also risk changing when their emotions are out of control or when provoked. They have an average human life span.

Kitsune
Also a Kindred species, they also have not set foot in Avalon- in fact, the Avalonian rulers would sooner trust a vampire or a werewolf before they would trust a kitsune- namely because, if things went south, Kitsune are by far the hardest to slay, seeing as they are the hardest to catch, seeing as they can vanish into this air ( as they are fox spirits, after all) and reappear nearby. Furthermore, one has to cut off all their tails before they can be killed. (only one tail really serves as their lifeline of sorts, but when they have 5+ tails it is easier to simply lop them all off.
Their diet consists mainly of a typical foxes, but they do enjoy playing tricks and games, some of which are potentially lethal to the unfortunate soul who plays along.
They are a primarily female species, but males do exist.
