Cobalt chuckled, straightening himself. "Right. Back to the meadow, then." So saying, the large black wolf turned and started back towards the green, grassy meadow they’d first met at. He had no idea if the small Pups would still be there, but he doubted they’d like to stop their play unless they had to.

OCTAVIA suddenly felt content, and the aching feeling in her heart was slowly drifting away. She let out a small sigh and nodded towards Cobalt, her eyes glimmering happily. She glanced down at Rain who was happily trotting along, once in a while chasing a butterfly. She hoped that she could give Rain a better life. “So... what happens if she wants to grow up and be bigger?” Octavia asked.

Cobalt shook his head. "Unfortunately, nothing. There is no aging in Starris. Anna and Merida are two years old, almost, but still have the energy and appearance of four month old Pups. They always will. Starris restores you to when you were at your strongest in life. Your friend, Acero, was almost eight years old when he died, nearly an Elder. Yet he was restored to his prime, when he was about five. Me too. You’re still your beautiful, youthful self. Rain...this is her prime. She may grow in maturity if she wishes, she could have the brain of an adult overtime, but her body will never grow," he explained, shaking his head. It really was a shame.

OCTAVIA felt her heart skip drop at this, and her eyes drifted down to Rain who didn’t seem that affected. She happily skipped along, minding her own business. “I’ll grow up when I’m ready” she squeaked happily.

"It'll be okay. Her mind will mature if she wishes. Most Pups up here do decide they want to mentally mature until they can take care of themselves. They’ll just never grow in size," Cobalt explained. "I know. It’s a terrible shame, but it’s lucky enough there’s an afterlife at all in which she can play and live after her life on earth. She’s a Pup, her life was too short. Now she has a second chance here."

OCTAVIA

The young she wolf nodded at Cobalt's words in agreement, coming to the realisation of Rain's fate. She glanced down at the young pup who skipped along merrily, who didn't seem to be worried. "She's only a month old... She is so small! At least she has long legs and must have had somewhat large parents. At least she isn't the size of an ant" Octavia chuckled in a gentle but somewhat teasing tone. Rain growled slightly and pounced at the grey female, pawing at one of her legs gently.

"Well she IS Maple's daughter. Maple was known for being fleet of foot in her old Pack. She likely inherited speed and build from her mother," Cobalt pointed out. He smiled just the faintest bit as the small Pup leapt at Octavia to paw at her. A 'surprise attack' of sorts, he guessed, from remembering his own days as a Pup of her age.

When Octavia looked down at this new life she had to protect, she felt the strongest, most warm, but stern and sharp feeling in her heart. She knew she would throw down her life if it meant she could protect Rain to the best of her ability. She smiled down at Rain as she continued to walk, feeling more at peace now then when she had arrived.

It would do them both some good to have each other, Cobalt reflected to himself as they stepped back into the meadow. Rain would have someone looking out for her, and Octavia would have someone to look after, which would give her something to do, to keep her mind occupied for a while yet.

"There we go." He nodded towards where the two other Pups wriggled together, scuffling on the bright green grass. "She'll have playmates, at least."

Rain, Athena

Rain noticed the two pups playing and she bolted over to them, slowing down as she reached them. “Hi! I’m Rain” she squeaked happily. Octavia watched her go, ears pricked for any signs of pain. “Be careful!” She called carefully, making sure that Rain would behave herself.
