- niverne has a natural drive that manifests itself as intense persistence and ambition, which often leads to him biting off far more than he is able to chew. despite this, he pushes through whatever challenges are thrown at him and has a remarkable- and occasionally annoying- knack for surviving. this is in part aided by his natural glow of confidence, which can be seen in his sure walk and daring gleam in his molten eyes. the other part- which has been far more vital to his survival thus far- is his keen focus and quick reflexes. despite his cocky grins and meaningless flirtations, verne is a quick reader of situations and acts fast when things sour. this occasionally manifests as impulsiveness or a lack of thorough planning, but his observant gaze and instincts see him through. although he comes off as wild and perhaps uncaring to others, he possesses a kind heart that cannot help but reach out to others. for those select few, verne would stop at nothing to protect and provide. this is a point of weakness he is sorely aware of and desperate to mask; he fears of finally misreading someone and having the world swept from beneath his feet as he is taken advantage of. it is an unfortunate cycle of trusting prematurely and a lack of trust.

taught to hold a sword sooner than his first word left his mouth, maverin was sculpted to be the ultimate warrior, the perfect knight wielding the vemoux family name. he took to it quickly as a child, with keen focus and reflexes not unlike those of a cat. he appeared quite unwarrior-like, with gangly limbs and big dark eyes set in a pale delicate face, but he was determined to show his worth. and perhaps a little desperate, too, for his father to look at him with respect rather than contempt. as he aged, these pressures were his constant companions and he found himself walking along a dangerous path to appease them. each blow in battle became disarmingly easy, the crimson blood all too familiar, and the piercing screams too muted as he found himself growing numb to these horrors. the realization terrified him. the empathy and gentleness he had maintained throughout his childhood was buried deeper each year. and so he was caught in turmoil, dragged between supporting the family's reputation of strength and returning to his softer roots. maverin maintains an aloof appearance to disguise this conflict, sheltered behind a silvered voice and nonchalant smiles that paint him as an amiable but distant individual. he is friendly enough to talk to, generous even, but he refuses to delve deeper than simple acquaintanceship. his soft spots tend to be children and animals, those who he sees as innocent and undeserving of the cruelties of the world, and he finds himself feeling extremely protective to those he deems worthy of it. although he comes off as intense and unwaveringly cruel in battle, he is quite the mellow person without a sword in his hands; he (ironically) dislikes conflict, and is rather fond of comfortable silence or quiet conversation. he admits that he is perhaps not the most educated in written knowledge, but this is a sore spot he likes to hide away. after all, he must appear perfect to all those who see him. he longs for closed doors, when he must no longer pretend to be what he fears he isn't, and a steadfast shoulder to lean on. quite a contradictory fellow.
